Incoming News, since i got my hands on 3ds Max things changed.. i've created some new trees that do work in the latest version of DCSW without that insane transparency effect. I've created a few different rows so you can cover different areas. In the following screen you can see the speed trees in background, the trees at the Airfield are my Trees. It was a painfull work and my first 3d Models ever. Those trees don't take much space, a whole "Woodarea" is about 400kb, Textures about 4mb. Sure they don't have that much detail as speedtrees, but Speedtrees are at least a hundred times bigger and will sooner or later affect your performance My Second Object is the new "Taxiway" sign, I've used bumpmaps too. :pilotfly::director:Actualy, it would be great if you one of you guys who're way way more familiar with all this stuff could do a simple tutorial youtube video of showing the correct settings, creatin a simple cube with a different texture on each side/face. Then how the texture should look like and how you import this simple cube into DCSW as a working static object. A second great video would be if someone could do a youtube tutorial video of creating a simple plane with a transparent alpha channel texture, png or tga.. like a tree on it, and how you get that to work into DCSW.. 2 Simple videos like that would help us noobs a looootttt really. Can someone make it happen? Later you guys could show how we do damage models to an object etc etc... I luv DCSW.. and it makes me a lil crazy cause i wanne start to see my 3D stuff inside DCSW

@joey45 one of my friends is working with 3ds Max 2016, I've put my fxb model on a stick and the latest edm tools, what happen is, I can see the edm toolbar, i can click on about, but when i click on the first thing nothing happen and when i click on export 3ds max crashes? Anyway can still export as edm the normal way like you would export everything else. Main menu Top left green button etc.. I don't know if this is the right location to ask this but i need to ask cause otherwise i might go crazy. Is the edm toolbar necessary to export.. cause my problem is that, yes the model works in DCS. It's still to big but i'll find a way to reseize it but the textures not showing up inside the Modelviewer and inside DCS, just the material.. and first I wanne make sure that i don't need the edm export toolbar..or can this allready cause the error of not having the textures showing up?? Lets start somewhere, when i import bitmaps in 3ds max, and assign those textures, does it matter if they are jpg, bmp, tga.. and whatelse type of pictures or do i need to have dds files first that i load up into 3ds and assign the to my model?? then safe and export as edm? nd then put this into my mods folder (I know how lua's need to be writen and all that texture folder etc, allready created some working mods) Thanks guys and sorry for asking

@joey45 yes it's all correct.. ok, wow.. it's working in the latest version DCS 2.5.2 but not working in 2.5.0.. damn it. It should be a taxiway sign but my sign is as big as at least 5 Aircraft Shelters..aahhh. Can I rescale it somehow.. maybe this causes 2.5.0 to crash

Hi, DCS 2.5..freeze inside the ME when i try to load my model, as a test i created a simple cube with just materials on it, did the "make cool" thing and put it into my mods/Tech folder. DCS freeze when i load my model under structures Any idea? Is there something like a tutorial how to do this correctly.. I'm a newbie with a 30days Version of 3DS max 2014 Thanks

Thanks @DanielNL for clearing this up , I read a few pages but not the whole thread, i thought it was allready working.. yea 3D max.. even old versions like 2012 are damn exspensive AFAIK.. damn it. I hooked up with someone that got 3D max, but it's best to do it all yourself so you can work way faster.. -

blder, 3ds, obj file I might be insane but i've started with blender today, i've never done 3d models before but i thought to start somewhere.. The problem so far is that the exported obj file or 3ds file will not include the texture, there's a mtl file but i tryed everything.. must have been done something wrong anyway. If some of you guys are familiar with blender, hit me up. Hawkeye60 can convert them to edm models.. Here's my first 3D model ever with a placeholder texture right now.. I want real taxiway signs thats why i've started to go into the 3d modeling world.. got headache now after learning blender the whole day..:sleep: -

@walleye62 don't wanne burst your bubble, but it's impossible to do. -How should KI know that there is a new Airfield? -You got grass all across the map so you will see it growing through the "new" runway. -How should KI know that there's a taxiway, where to go, left right.. all this is coded. - if you would land it would be the same as landing in a field, you would explode right away. Yes it would be a dream to have a pack from ED called Airbase Builder, where you could build airfields, taxiways, choose between different Shelters and buildings, All western, russian style.. but I guess this will remain a dream. sorry mate -

Trees Thanks to all of you, I hope @ED @Chizh will see this sooner or later .. in the following picture you can see why i needed more trees, and why i've used the DCS 1.5 edm file trees. If ED could give us the option to draw SpeedTrees with the mouse inside the ME this would be a blessing.. kinda like if you click the mouse button one time you get a small tree, or hold it and get bigger trees that you can draw along the map like a pencil tool in photoshop.:photo: I've allready created new summer textures for the old tree files to match them more to the SpeedTrees (at least in color). -

Large Airbase type office building Another one.. did a whole new texture for this larger Airbase type office building.. the original file was home3d.edm from DCS 1.5. Sadly, many models are very poorly done. You see the gap between the roof and mainwalls. Thats sad.. I hope we can get more 3D modelers in here. I can do tons of textures. I don't need fancy edm models for objects like this but at least models without bugs. Everyone that is interested pm me.. we can enhance those Airbases alot.:thumbup: -
wow hold up, found this right now.. Guys, if we can remove SpeedTrees, is there noway that we can add them inside the ME ??? there must be a way.. c'mon ED please give us this Option...

Hi all, for the latest Airbase mod i'm working on it's necessary that i got some more "trees", the only solution was to use some old tree edm models from DCS 1.5. yes I wish that @ED would give us the option to simply draw Speed tress inside the ME.. but this might remain a dream only.. I figured that the trees i use most (tree1.edm - tree.12edm) got this weird shading problem. If i try to edit the edm file with a notepad and change something, DCS will not work anymore. Is there something that can be done to edit edm files?? I'm not talking about changing the model, just erasing this weird effect, or a line i can into each lua file for each different tree file?? As you can see in the screens, both files use the same texture (r_for_tga.dds) so it must be something inside the edm model file...:helpsmilie:

@crazyeddie right, i know about it, i use the trigger option too, just figured that sometimes it don't work, or it remove an object but when i place something new the new objects are floating in the Air.. but I could give it a try if someone could create a Western style shelter.. problem would maybe the open and closing doors.. how should the new Object now if a jet want to taxi inside this particualar shelter, how should the shelter know when to open the doors?? we talk about at least 20 to 30 different parking positions.. -

@BlacleyCole sorry, if you can find the helipad texture inside the vfxtextures folder inside the Caucasus folder then yes it's possible to change it into a desert texture. You wanne build an island?? I guess then you need to join a big team who develope new maps with completely new scenerys. Like I sayed what i do right here is try to make a few more objects available inside the ME and create and change some textures to make it all look a bit more western style, and better quality overall. I'm bored of flyable mods and more and more planes coming out.. even with the planes available right now I'm overhelmed. I just hope that more guys will work on ground objects, scenerys. -

Shelters new NATO style shelters would be great to replace the old russian shelters all across the caucasus map, the problem is that since 2.5.0 we dont have a Shades folder with edm models to replace allready existing objects on the map...correct? Shelters like that would be very nice.. @ED -

@hawkeye60 thanks, when you got time we could change a few things, not much.. but it's good to have you around, you're the only one i know so far who can create 3D models. @mustang afiak i got your terrain installed. @muehlema noway, i wish but ED would need to give us the code which is impossible. Remember there's grass everywhere, you cannot erase grass. I retextured the Basketball field from 1.5 and put this into the building mod folder, from air it looks good, but real close there's grass everywhere on the field which means that Grass will not exist or "grow" on allready placed objects on the map, every object that we place inside the ME will have grass underneath it. So it's not possible to create new taxiways and airfields, plus you would need to write a code about the new taxiways so every Aircraft need to know where it can go and so and and so on. I will post a little update tommorow. And a list what my goal is. I hope ED will grant me the right to use some of there old models from 1.5.. cause without it will be a very small mod. If someone can create 3D buildings please hit me up.. Thanks, lets make it happen. -

(Standard) Airbase and Taxiway Texture update, Western style Thanks for all your support, I would like to encourage everybody to post textures or ideas in here, hope hawkeye will see this, he wanted to create a pack with Taxiway signs, since they're only available on Civil Airports like Batumi etc.. It will take a while but i'm slowly gettin' there. Thing is, the trees I use are from old DCS 1.5, new textures are only for summer right now. The Buildings models, (not many) are also from DCS 1.5, so ED need to grand me sone rights if I (we) could release this as an official Mod. Need your help guys.. More News, with only 2 layers of main textures to cover the whole Airfield, thats the best I can do..Western style....I hope ED will create more textures (like back in DCS 1.5) :photo::yay: -

I'm working on it @M0ltar, all work in progress. Found a way to edit the "Standard Airbases" Taxi, rollout and runway, sadly there're only 2 main layers, and then 3 layers on top of it, the 2 mainlayers decide how the main texture will look. Sadly, 1 main layer covers the complete taxiway and runway... the other is for rollout, and the ground where Vehicles are parked. You need to stay in DXT5, mipmaps on if you edit those tif files. Crackmask.zip, fabric.zip, dirtmask.zip is where the files are located, in fabric.zip fabric.afb_concrete02.tif.dds is the main layer for "Standard Airbases". -

Yes Eddie, i got all the packs, Rangers, Virpil VPC.. created my own textures for old 1.5 models, using trigger zones to erase Objects and so on.. building some crazy Airbases right now. I don't worry bout loading time at all, nothing got more Objects then Las Vegas.. More News: New Western style Military Staff and New Military office building, also as you can see i'm working on new Road textures..the Crossroad is still the old texture. Try to figure out how to change the main Taxiway texture a lil bit also, it's all located in crackmask.zip...anyway enjoy -
Ok, since almost everyone is busy in creating more and more and more and more Aircrafts and flyable mods:unsure: (which imho is getting boring real quick since we got so many Aircrafts allready), I decided to work on some stuff since DCS Caucasus is kinda "dead", not much going on on the ground, Airbases still look very lifeless, and many textures look in my opinion very veryyy old. No One is really working on new Ground objects, or a mod to make them look way better then before. All standard Airbases got worse in my opinion in DCS 2.5, we only got one texture for a whole Airfield including taxi rollout and runway. Anyway I'll be always thankfull what ED did with 2.5 Enough Talk, I'll post some before and after screens so you can see what i've done so far, i'll update this thread so we don't need a new one for each texture or finished building. I've used some edm models from 1.5 that I'm using for DCS 2.5, otherwise it would be impossible. Lets go..:mobile: Old Tech Shelter New Tech Shelter...
