I have an 18lb Siamese named Nate. We generally call him Nater, Tubby, or THUD. Thud is for the sound he makes jumping to the floor. I also have a calico named Lucy, who like most calicos, is mostly insane.

The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival by John Vaillant This book on the Amur Tiger was remarkable. An amazing story that covers so much ground- the story of a series of fatal attacks on humans by a single tiger in siberia is the anchor for a journey through our relationship with the animals around us, as hunter and prey, and the ecological fallout of that relationship. The information on the amur tiger itself, and the intelligence of the animal is striking. You gain insight into these amazing, yet terrible animals. All at once you learn to love their beauty as the epitome of the region's food chain, but fear the mind and intentions of something so dangerous that we cannot communicate with. This review doesn't do it justice, but the interview with the author is good. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/books/2010/09/the-exchange-john-vaillant-on-the-siberian-tiger.html

Those covers will be great as my cats believe my office to be their domain. To be fair, if possession is 9/10ths of the rule, they do own it.

To the iMac Bootcamp crew. How well are you getting DCS A10 to work?
arriflex replied to Ziggy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
http://www.macrumors.com/2011/06/15/27-inch-imac-core-i7-with-ssd-is-fastest-mac-ever/ This ought to be a decent DCS machine. Most of this benchmark test is single threaded apps. Wonder what the next MacPro's will be like. -
Hog HOTAS- $800 version VS $500 Version?
arriflex replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=warthog+hotas&searchbtn.x=0&searchbtn.y=0 Thats one example. If you dig through Google Shopping you'll find retailers hanging around the $450-$550 range, and retailers hanging in the $650-$800 range. Just wanted to be sure there were not two versions. -
Hog HOTAS- $800 version VS $500 Version?
arriflex posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A few sites have two different Hog HOTAS' on their site, one priced around $800, one around $500. Is there a difference here, or is one an import version, hence more expensive? -

No worries Shez, I'm just bristly from "entrenched forum standard operating procedures towards newcomers syndrome" :) -
HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles
arriflex replied to arriflex's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Found this in the DCS A-10C Beta Manual. It is encouraging for plug and play, or at least near plug and play of a couple potential DCS Aircraft: The most visibly obvious result of the upgrades has been to the cockpit of the A-10C. The Precision Engagement (PE) Modification Program made several important changes to the cockpit to support the avionics upgrades: New control stick based on the F-16 stick. Although it is a full-deflection stick (unlike the F- 16), it has a much greater level of functionality compared to the older stick based on the F- 4 ―Phantom‖ stick. The right throttle of the throttle quadrant has been removed and replaced by the same left throttle used in the F-15E. As with the new control stick, the new left throttle provides an additional level of control and functionality. -
HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles

What is P&P? When you say it is uncalled for, do you mean they didn't need to include the feature and probably won't in the future? Thanks! -
How long do the missions usually run? Do you anticipate having a save feature implemented in this game via patch?

HOTAS Warthog and Future DCS Titles

Although that may be the case, my question really pertains to the Warthog HOTAS and it's forward compatibility. -
Newbish question here....... As a father of a 2 year old my sim time is limited- you can save a mission and quit the sim, picking back up where you left off later, right?

Hey gang- before investing in the HOTAS Warthog I wanted to explore it's controls and how they may apply to future DCS titles. I know that buttons are fully re-mappable for future titles, my questions are: In the event of a DCS F/A-18 or F-15C or F-15D,E are the weapons systems so dissimilar that a new controller would be necessary to fully harness and map them, or are the weapons control switches and buttons pretty common among combat aircraft? In the event that there are extra weapons systems controls in a future title, could a modifier key be set up to just switch the WH HOTAS controls to the new system (once mapped)? Thanks for your input and entertaining my newbish questions.

Fish, fantastic videos. Great quality with clear and understandable explanations of why and how the procedures work. Looking forward to more.
