  1. All very personal of course, but fwiw:

I have all maps (except for the ww2 ones) and Syria is my favorite, due to all its details (I like helo ops, so for me ground details are important). Also, I like Syria's diversity (water/sea, forests, desert, large cities) and its potential for historically accurate scenarios.

In terms of scenery detail, I'd say Sinai is on par with Syria (the Nile area is also quite green), but imo Syria is just a more interesting map for either accurate, or fictional full blown war type of scenarios

SA is also quite beautiful. It just completely lacks content..

PG is nice, but not as detailed as Syria and Sinai.

NTTR (imho) is just far too outdated, scenery detail wise. Although it looks good from 10k+ft

The only problem may be that what works in MSFS will not work in DCS, combat simulator. That's why I write so much about performance. In MSFS they can do a lot of eye candies but there, even if someone has 40 FPS it is quite ok and no more is needed in static, civil flight. In DCS, where there is air combat and dynamic flying, the look of the ground is important but it cannot affect performance because it will ruin the immersion totally. So yes, Im very curious about his debut and I hope that it will not be as detailed as the ORBX add-ons for FSX/P3D or MSFS (like a cats, dogs even), but at the same time scenery will look nice and will have great performance in 2D and VR. DCS its not MSFS and here you have to take other approaches even its known and great ORBX :).

Not to mention that in DCS all scenery also need a damage model (preferably even a few damage model variants).

I can imagine all these extra variables can add to performance strain.

(That other civvy sim has it easy, compared to what's needed for DCS 😉)

Been looking forward to this. Time to knuckle down and start building some logistics missions.

Bought for £39.44 and will give many many hours of fun (and frustration no doubt in trying to get that tail balanced on a hillside!)

Noticed a new walking soldier model as well 🙂

I love helo ops, so I probably end up buying the Hook anyways, but it is current state of ground units and lack of an interactive logistics system that hold me back at the moment.

Moving static cargo (troops/mortar units) around is fun for a short while, but if that cargo can actually join in a battle after I've dropped them, now that would add endless fun to the endeavor.

This screenshot, showing new infantry units, get my hopes up!

The situation is absolutely inacceptable from a customer view. I paid big money for an unfinished product promised to be completed over time. This promise is on halt with strong indications to not beeing fullfilled at all. Not only will I never buy an EA product again I am also left stranded not knowing what to do. Waiting or moving on to another module. I am active in the MP community and the E was my main module.

We need to know a definite answer and roadmap how and when things will resume if at all. Otherwise its time for refunds and not looking back. The current situation with no infomation at all is unacceptable and everyday that passes my trust in ED / DCS / Razbam shrinks further into oblivion.

Please forgive my ignorance (I don't use discord or Reddit or any other platform, so perhaps I'm missing news here), but how do you guys know if there at all still is an issue?

I mean, I haven't seen any official announcements on this forum from ED about this whole thing. Call me naïve (I probably am 😉), but how do we know if there even still is an issue between Razbam and ED right now?

  5. Hi @markturner1960,

Adding a sound file (such as radio chatter) is actually very simple. No need for to add a zone (also no need for the readme 😉)

You can just add an action "Sound to all" (or any of the variants, like sound to coalition ...):

    Sound 02.gif

If you don't add any conditions, the sound file will play as soon as the mission starts. But you can also add a "time is more" condition, like in this example:

    sound.jpg

You can make it as complex (realistic) as you want. For instance, you can transmit the sound file on a certain frequency, so that clients/players need to actively tune their radios to that freq, to be able to hear the sound file. Like in this example:

    DCS.png

You can also transmit on a frequency directly from a unit (without creating a zone). Like in this example:
    2020-10-31 12_22_08-Digital Combat Simulator.jpg

As far as I know, the sound file should either be .wav or .ogg format

If you're interested, you can open this mission of mine, in the ME and see how I used sound files. I mostly used ground units to transmit from.
    https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3331796/

    EDIT:

@razo+r sniped me (I type too slow 😉)
I haven't tested with playing more than one sound file simultaneously. If you use the "transmit on frequncy" option, I suppose it's possible. But if you use "Sound to all" I don't think you can play more than one sound file at the same time.

It would be cool to have kill marks

I'm afraid there's not enough fuselage space for mine 😌

Kidding aside; I'm not against your wish (why would I), but I have hundreds of AA kills in several of my modules when I check my logbook. What was your idea on how to add them all as kill marks?

Although it looks cool irl, I have my doubts for DCS.

How about maybe first add customizable pilot names on the canopy?

  7. I'm sure this has been asked before (couldn't find it that quickly)..

DCS is still leaning heavily on user created content (missions/campaigns). Currently it is very annoying that I don't get any kind of notification when someone asks something in any of my uploaded user files.

Uploaders now need to actively check all their content, to see if anyone replied/asked something. C'mon ED, please add some sort of option just like we have on this forum, to "follow" a user file and receive notifications when something is posted or updated there.

I guess I am happy a map for Afghanistan is now available to pre-order for the helo bubbas to play on.  Still waiting for my last pre-order item to become available, the F-4 Phantom.  Someday, maybe.

DCS: F-4E brings this cold-war legend to the skies of DCS, so strap in and prepare for a wild ride.”

Today you can save -25% whilst pre-purchasing the DCS: F-4E Phantom II.
This discount will not be available once the module is released to early access.

Still strapping in... five months later... In my day an "Alert-5" meant five minutes, not months.

    Quite off-topic, but..

You do know about the delay Heatblur share a while ago?

You could ask ED if they include Zaranj airport in the Persian Gulf map, which is already established for the Afghanistan map, so it will also be present in the PG map. The mission could be:

PG map: takeoff from carrier, landing in Zaranj.

Afghanistan map: take off from Zaranj to fly wherever you want.

Honestly, it doesn't make sense and it's not worth it, at least for me (and even if I love carrier based planes): from the carrier to Zaranj about 400 NM of desolate terrain.

    Screen_240330_122050.png

    Why land at all?

Just split your mission up in 3 parts if you persist on carrier ops+Afghanistan and use the "load mission" function from the ME.

One can start from PG map on a carrier, fly in the direction of Afghanistan (following waypoints), and then at some point just auto load the next mission (Afghanistan map). Mission 2 you'll start airborne, drop your bombs, return towards PG, auto load PG mission, land on carrier.

(oh and add some AAR to make the boring long trip bearable)

If the player stays reasonably close to the intended waypoints and altitude, the transition between missions is quite good (I know because I tried it with Sinai and Syria maps)

(Ok true, this only works for SP)

Was there ever an answer for this? I run into this a lot myself, including just last night when flying with my squadron. It's beyond annoying.

Can you maybe share the track file here? That way we could take a closer look.

I fly the Apache a lot (might even consider it my favorite DCS module), but I can't say I've ever had any issues with George not firing missiles (well, maybe very early on after EA relsease, but not in the past 1,5 year I'd say). The only times I experience George not firing, is due to me being too far away from the target, or my piloting had George lose LOS)

Most people have the pilot body turned off anyways.

A statement based on one of Sharpy's many solid and deep researches..... 🥴

Ok, this thread is starting to derail. Sorry for that @YhandisH. It's your wish, and rightfully so 😉👍

I’m not getting anything new with Afghanistan.

    C'mon man, really? 😅

You've got to admit, the SC module took naval ops (which I too like very much btw), way beyond land based ops, when it comes down to realistic procedures and details.

Again, I love naval ops too, but I'd be royally pissed when the Hornet pilot body gets additional rolled up sleeves first, while my Viper is still standing in its hanger since it's release (pre-purchased) because it still doesn't have a pilot body at all after years (which makes the cockpit look spaciously arcady as hell)..

    Oh and btw:

Do yourself a favor and purchase SA and Sinai maps (during a sale). They're both beautiful and you'll love it 👍

An F-18 pilot body with the rolled up sleeves would be nice. It’s the least ED could do for the Naval Aviation simmers that were neglected on the Afghanistan map. I mean, SC updates as well, but enough people are already complaining about that.

I won’t label this latest snub opprobrious in nature, but it sure would be nice if ED showed the Naval Aviation community some love. Any amount of love. Like, I’m down to rolled up sleeves.

Wait.. We have the Supercarrier module (with deck crew, ATC, soon a ready room), pilot bodies in both the Hornet and the Tomcat, yet meanwhile:

    • The F-16 has been a drone (empty cockpit) since its release years ago, same for the A-10C II
    • Land based ATC is absolutely horrible
    • No ground crews

Yet you ask for "any amount of love" for naval ops?

I'm definitely not against your wish mate, but I personally I'd say land based ops needs love first, before we even start thinking about rolled up sleeves for the Hornet pilot 😅
