Kneebord Export for all DCS modules - I need your suggestions
Strut replied to PeterP's topic in DCS Modding
PeterP Thx for the answer, i know your busy -
Had some trouble with the "Common Lua", we have fixed and replaced it, the kills, and landings and maybe some other things weren't being reported properly. So ive repacked and updated the Zip file and u can DL here. il remove from the DCS location with reference to come here to DL, that way we can iron the bugs out without having to piss off moderators loading this file all the time . This file is good to go as from 11 Jul 13:thumbup: Please dl both files and read directions Links Removed

Not fully integrated, the Australia_Army and Australia_RAAF folder for instance contain the medals, unit insignia and stripes(rank). The thing is that both use files common to the logbook and combine to give you a Army and RAAF logbook.

Kneebord Export for all DCS modules - I need your suggestions
Strut replied to PeterP's topic in DCS Modding
Gday Peter, and congratulations on a very worthy and very handy project, ive been looking with great interest and just cant help feel amazed at your talent and of those helping you. I wish there was something i could do to help but im just not that 'tech'd' up to do so. What i d also like to add is that i have a suggestion, you may or may not like, but here it is: I have a long military background and one thing that was always instilled into me when conducting 'Ops' was the '7' P's - (Prior Preparation and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance) and 90 percent of any tasks success depended on the preparation. Anyway i digress slightly, to ensure success one important element is navigation, and particularly in the Huey where the "Nav" aids are primitive we need to go back to "first principles" for navigation. Navigating in our current model is almost purely visual, with the ADF as a good aid. Ok that said, all students of navigation will agree that one of the most important and basic skills of navigation is to orientate your map to ground and when you move in the desired direction and route, you can "read" the map and the ground as you move over it, in the direction you are moving to. This simple method helps greatly to recognize the lay of the ground, natural features and landmarks, which makes navigation easier. In the Huey we dont have the ability to do it, the map always points up, on the other aircraft we have the electronic maps in MFD's etc etc so its covered, but would also be handy as well. So my suggestion is, can you incorporate into your mod to make the map on the kneeboard constantly orientate to Grid North / Mag North , maybe you can do it with magnetic variation calculated into it, but not necessary, so that the map is always orietated to the direction / destination you are moving in/to. Just a suggestion. Best regards -
No wonder we used to call them 'Blue Orchids'---- sheeeeeeshhhhh :smilewink:

Good job Aussieboy, that will go nicely with the 3 Sqn RAAF logbooks.

Home Fries: Are we building a replacement 'Logbook' ? or a 'mod'? I think maybe this will help to answer your questions. I think the way to go is to treat each service of the country we want included as an 'individual country'. This way the mod doesn't get to be a monstrous file swap. So maybe as the 'need' increases or more like minded desk pilots develop their own country more 'individual country's' will be added to the 'mod' ether. Lets say if someone wants to be a " collector" and have all the possible Air Forces, Naval and Army Aviation elements then this is still better, if you only want a mod to get your favorite 'Air Arm' then its better, If we treat this mod this way it seems to me we solve the small problems like 'gongs' and rank names. just a thought,,,,,,
-
HomeFries, first question - yes they are separate Lua files, when our mod gets released you will see the structure. Second question: got no probs with integrating the mods, if its better to do that then we should. Will try to get the new Army/RAAF mod out tonight. And thanks for helping out mate.

Thx Boris, although what yo say is not entirely true, i knew of direct entry pilots in the early days of 5AV who never put a foot near RMC, and i was an ASWOCS Captain at the end of my career (last 6 years) which ended not all that long ago. Anyway hope the German beer is cold and the Frau's are keeping you warm ............ regards

Here ya go fella's, ive got both the logs looking as they should now, both with the help of Home Fries and the direction of Aussieboy. Here's some pics one for the RAAF and one for the Aust Army. Il get the mod out ASAP and will even have a JSGME Mod folder made up, building on Ebs good work. Not sure if 2nd Lt's exist anymore , might do in Aviation for Direct entry pilots ?
-
Thanks Homefries, excellent work mate, will apply that asap and just to let you know, me and Aussieboy will be releasing an update soon with "Australia_RAAF" and "AUSTRALIA_ARMY" Logbooks, this way the blokes can get into the Aussie Army Aviation units, if they want, even though they dont use anything modeled in DCS yet, buts its our "flavour" , so we like it. Once again thanks very much mate, and il be sure to bounce this over to Aussie for the offer of the pilot edit.

I land very easily all the time:helpsmilie: .......with varying degrees of force:doh: So dont give into it, show a bit of $%^& about you and get stuck into the machine, its just practice.:pilotfly:

Just a quick note to say that i had to re-do the download for the mod, so the download will be offline for a short time, i modified the A-10C skin so that it can be used in US missions as well, this is so u can use it other than Australian missions. The mod will go back up when the moderator has completed the checks before posting on "User Files" at http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/
-
Ok the mod is posted @ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com and will go up when the moderators release it. Hope you like.
-
Hoi Redfish, thanks mate, and thanks also Bear, il get it on possibly by tonight, then its up to DCS to clear it thru for the "user files" section at DCS Home Web Site. Might have to look at adding a 161 Squadron into it at a later time.

Heres a pic of the final Logbook so far with current Australian decorations and correct Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) rank shoulder slides, also few of the Squadron insignia and the Australian Army Aviation Regiment Badge. Contrary to popular belief, Australia dont use British devices, uniforms, insignia, etc etc, although our origins and some traditions are definitely British and similar in some ways. Il also try to work out how to do Army Rank for those who prefer to fly in Army Aviation, although they are mostly rotary wing and all we have in DCS is the Huey which Australia did use but has long ago retired for Blackhawks, Chooks etc. Il release it on the DCS "User Files" site asap with directions for placing the files into DCS , hope you Aussies out there like it. Thanks mostly to Aussieboy, well done mate. (Note: In the picture the Rank is stated as Captain, but the Rank being displayed is Flight lieutenant. Will fix as soon as we can, although in reality the RAAF say that a FLT LT is an Army Captain "equivalent" we should avoid comparing "apples and oranges" lol, but if you were to say a Naval Captain was the same as an Army Captain then you might be in the same ball park ^^, i feel some hate coming lol)
-
Just had to post this pic, it shows RAAF Rank boards (no "Australia" on them yet") and 3 Sqn .
-
Gday there Highway mate, you leave the S77th ? It sounds like a plan il get on to it asap, i also added 5 Aviation Regiment to it , thats in the hope of one day flying Chooks, Blackhawks and MH90's lol but will be satisfied they fly Huey's for now. And i will play around with the ranks, il try and put in Army rank as well. Thanks again to Aussieboy, but i do rekon we need to square it away before we release the final mod.

Well done Aussieboy, and thanks mate for a job well done on the mod, i asked a while ago about this in the forums and wasnt really well received with to much enthusiasm, must be a superpower thing lol, and i must say your other mods are approaching greatness. Ive attached a pic
