  1. Yep, what he said. I did exactly the opposite of his suggestion, I pushed too hard. So I've been playing hours tonight since I had it fixed. The lubrication really did make a big difference. I am surprised it worked this well. Oh how I hope it lasts a long time.
  2. I have a similar setup. My chair is pretty much the same as yours. How do you keep your WH in place when flying? I've been going out of my mind trying to get the stick off my desk.
  3. I wouldn't worry. Just be very very very cautious around the wires. I kept fiddling with that inner ball thing. I wasn't happy with the grease on it. It didn't look like there was enough grease so I just kept adding more and thus messing with the wires. Just make sure you do not pinch the wires when putting the top ball/rotator thing back on. That's what I did. I just got off a game that last about 50 minutes. Stick is MUCH better feeling. Less sticky movements. Still there somewhat but not nearly as noticeable. I was able to fly again. It is much stiffer now. I don't know why it's like that because I doubt grease would affect that. All in all it's worth it as long as you are super careful.
  4. Ok, well my attempt went very wrong but ultimately ended in success. Everything was going well; I ungreased everything and it took me hours because I wanted all of the original stuff gone. I fell asleep with all the parts in my hands and around me, I basically passed out, this was in the wee hours of the morning. I was woken up by the maids around 9am, they are very loud. So I started regreasing. Everything was going well until I tried to put the wires back through that rotating piece. It just wouldn't go in. That's where the problem started. I noticed three wires broke. My heart sunk. I was well aware of how fragile they are and thought I was being super careful. Guess not. After the mishap with the wires, I immediately called a relative who runs a company and has many skilled guys that work with wires so small they need a microscope. I floored it over to his office and one of the guys started to fix the wires. He basically didn't attempt to attach the three broken ends to each other due to the nature of where the break was. So he found some wire laying around and basically made an extension to the broken ones. It is not a pretty repair but it works, I tested it. I just hope it lasts. After the wires were fixed I continued greasing everything. I made sure everything was nice and tight and aligned properly. I eventually got it all back together. The stick feels very stiff again, like new. The center play is greatly reduced and it does feel smoother. I have not had a chance to test it in game yet as I am still at his office but I tested with TARGET device analyzer on my laptop and it looks to work fine. Air to air refueling will be the ultimate test. I screwed up big time on this one. I had a bad feeling from the start. I have a sneaking suspicion the fixed wires won't hold forever. He twisted the wire(s) then soldered them and then wrapped some electrical tape around them. Was a tight fit considering three wires had to fit through that ball thingy. How bummed I am. At least it's all working for now. No more modding for me. Ever. I've learned my lesson.
  5. Ohhhh, I think I may understand it now. I will have to give it a try later. Thanks!
  6. Good idea. I never thought of using it to my advantage in that way.
  7. Thanks, that helps me out a little. I will have to try in game. It is really confusing when I am circling and it is constantly rotating. Your picture does help though.
  8. I still have no idea how to use that north arrow pointer and orientate attacks using it. For some reason it confuses me. It is probably a simple thing I am not getting. I will figure it out some day.
  9. Any negative stuff I say below doesn't change the fact that I whole wholeheartedly recommend this stick. Probably one of the most used impulse purchases I have ever made. To me the throttle is the most rock solid part of the setup. Absolutely perfect for me. I did update the firmware as soon as I got it so I am not sure if that played a part in preventing bricking. The actual stick on the other hand is awesome and bothersome at the same time. The feel of the stick is second to none. It just screams high quality. It's heavy and accurate, mostly. As you may or may not have heard, some people have issues with the stick being jerky when making fine movements. Also, some people have an issue with the stick having a sort of center play (looseness). I have both issues and lately it has been irritating the crap out of me. I have read some potential solutions such as greasing up the insides with better grease. I am actually going to attempt this within the next hour. Wish me luck! As far as the center play/looseness goes, I have no clue what to do about that. I contacted TM and they said it was normal as all their units exhibit the same characteristic. I am hesitant to call it a problem. I just set a small dead zone on the stick. Still for the price I expect a perfectly stiff stick with no issues. It's not as bad as it sounds, I am just very exacting with things. You may not even notice it. The game is perfectly playable and you will have a blast. Personally, I tried this game and had a cyborg evo and quickly realized this is one serious sim. The next day I went out and purchased the Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's and a track IR. Zero to nothing in less than a week. That is what the Warthog will do. It will suck you into the game like nothing else. Hope that wasn't tl;dr for you :)
  10. Well, I'm not an authoritative source on the subject, I can say that I didn't have to when I uninstalled then reinstalled just now. I was expecting to reactivate. When I uninstalled I deleted my save game folder and the left over Eagle Dynamics folder. I also ran CCleaner so there shouldn't have been any trace left. Game installed fast and never asked for a cd key. Every other time it has. Something seems different.
  11. Agreed, infinitely better.
  12. TGP = MUCH better. To me it is like night and day from the previous version. More contrast or something.
  13. Not a problem. I just checked how much I've uploaded the full install...100GB. I thought 38GB was a lot. Looks like there is only three seeders for the full version.
  14. Wow, I just checked how much I've uploaded the patch on bitorrent - 38GB thus far. Waaay more than I expected. Guess there are a lot of people who want this patch :) The faster everybody gets it, the faster we get more people back in multiplayer.
  15. For me it feels like the game runs faster. Also, the way the plane handles feels different. Might be because I reset my controllers last night. I thought I didn't have a custom curve on it... One odd thing that happened to me a few moments ago; I was flying in multiplayer and I was cruising to get to the first objective and I was bored so I thought I'd press F6 and watch some munitions. That was a bad idea. The game suddenly froze, could still hear the sound of the engine though. I checked task manager to see what was up and saw all 16gb of my ram being used by the game. It wasn't like that the whole time I was in game, just shot up when it froze. That was interesting. Good patch overall.
  16. Well I got the grease today. I am having second thoughts on attempting this. Trying to clean off the current grease using soap and water and having those fragile little wires nearby makes me more than a little hesitant. What don't you grease inside? Obviously nothing electronic. I took my stick apart and the grease was almost all dried so it was hard to tell what had grease and what didn't. I know the spring and ball had grease. Anything else? I'll play around with the new patch a little. It would suck for me to screw up the stick and not get to check out the patch.
  17. This is what a real patch is for a game. Thanks ED. I probably won't notice half the changes though :smilewink: I'm so conflicted, do I check out the new patch first or attempt to lube up my TM Warthog? Both arrived at the same time. I'm afraid I'll screw up my WH and not be able to check out the patch, yet I am anxious to see how lubing the WH will work. Decisions, decisions... Just as an FYI; I rent a torrent "seedbox" and will be seeding this torrent 24/7. Hopefully it will help out some of you. The upload on the seedbox is very fast.
  18. Yep, I know. I purchased last night after debating for months whether I want it or not. After many months periodically trying to get iPadpit working. I gave up and purchased yours. You app is very good. The screen setup couldn't be simpler. It's the one thing like this that has actually worked for me without a hitch. I definitely want to continue to use your app as the simplicity of it makes it worth it. The one thing I'm not a huge fan about the app is the artwork used and some design choices. I read somewhere that ED's artwork wasn't used because of potential copyright issues. The other apps definitely use ED stuff, or so it seems. I don't know if they make money on their apps though. The main reason I am messing with all this is to get the cdu up and running. I would like to use iControl but it doesn't rotate to portrait mode, it stays in landscape mode. On ipadpit the CDU takes up the whole screen when in portrait mode. It's minor gripes like that. Also it seems there are many more consoles in the other apps. Maybe I'm missing something here, so please let me know if I am. You and the iPadpit designer should work together. Bring your display(s) setup feature and the way you make it so the keyboard layout does not have to be changed (BIG gripe with ipadpit). He can bring over his console configurations and artwork. Then you would have something really special. Then again, I know nothing of programming. Still, keep up the good work on iControl DCS. Back to the original question: Anybody have an ipadpit profile that does not wipe out the defaults for the TM Warthog and MFD's? Thanks. Edit: Those Helios setups are very tempting. That might be another solution. Not sure yet on that as I don't have touch screen monitor (I know it's not required). Edit 2: I figured out how to get back all the HOTAS and MFD stuff after using iPadpits profile. I just deleted the controller profiles as I mentioned earlier and it worked. I was surprised. Also, I did not mean to sound overly critical or harsh on iControl. It is a very, very, very good app. I just see some room for improvement if possible. I can't wait to hear what goodies are going to be in the next release.
  19. This. I have been searching for the past 24 hours for the the answer to this. I have the MFD's and the TM HOTAS Warthog. The imported keyboard assignment file wipes out the joystick and mfd setup. Does anybody have a config that was designed for the HOTAS Warthog and MFD's? I'm wondering that if I import the custom keyboard settings that are included in iPadpit and then reset the controllers for the Warthog and MFD's by deleting the files specified in a sticky. Would that keep the custom keyboard and bring back the defaults for the mfd's and Warthog? Now if only I could get the live MFD's working. All this screen resolution editing is confusing the hell out of me.
  20. Damn fine answer. I can't say I disagree with that. Although I haven't seen anybody ask how to cycle through targets (they shouldn't be playing this game) or do absolutely nothing. Still, you make some good points.
  21. Thanks for the guide. I think I'm going to risk it and do this to my Warthog. Anything mechanical, I am extremely hesitant to mess with. How much of that grease should I order? I don't want to get more than I'll need, do you think 1oz would be enough or should I go with 2oz? If this works, that is one problem solved with my Warthog. Now I need to figure out how to reduce the center play that the joystick has.
  22. So I just played this mission for the first time the other day. I did not catch the name of the mission at first and I was worried I would not be able to find it later. SO glad I found this mission. Simply put, this is the best mission I have played yet. This is exactly the mission I have been looking for as this is how I imagine A-10's are used in combat lately, or at least close enough. The voicework, the scripting, the teamwork required is just top notch. Now I have to check out all your missions. Good job man.
  23. Cool man, thanks for pointing that out. I missed it somehow.
  24. I own a Team Speak server that is on 24/7 from a hosting provider. If you want access to it, feel free to ask and I'll create a channel for DCS players. Maybe we can all join it when we want to play. Whoever finds a server, we join them. Doesn't fix the amount of locked servers but at least we would have a steady voice server.
  25. Thanks for the picture. That helps me get an idea of what I would have to work with in terms of space. We have different Saitek pedals. I have the big ones with the metal pedals. I'm not sure if their dimensions are the same but the Saitek Combat pedals are very wide.
