  1. Ive got this running pretty well using the latest PP software. There are some issues to work out but my first question 1) DFR and pimax eyetracking is awesome. It actually calibrates no problem and tracking seems almost flawless even when lifting up the headset to type something, it seems to track perfect after putting it back on. 2) The question is the square in the center of the FOV when using DFR. I thought this was just in the mirror window I didn't realize it was visible in the headset. I wish it would go away, it looks like a debug feature to check if DFR and eye tracking is working. Are we stuck with it? Why does it exist (what causes it) why dont I see it in the dcs menu? if it cant be removed can it be reduced? I find it pretty distracting. Thanks!
  2. I had the same question. Glad its not required to be online after paying for it. Thanks!
  3. Im pretty optimistic that this is going to be a good experience at the end. Did you find the G2 fit to be "unsatisfactory" and did you have to mod it? Or were you able to tolerate the out of box experience? Im pretty sure the super is going to need "modification" to some extent beyond what is included in the box to make it work for me.
  4. I have good eyesight but close up is a bit degraded I can still read cell phone text messages 0 issue but its most comfortable from 1 foot 5" away... further is fine but closer gets blurry and I cant focus on it. My primary VR unit has been the G2 I have used it for many years and have tons of hrs in dcs with it. Its been flaky the last 10 months probably because of a failing cable. The audio quit working and its hard to start up and the whole time its running its constantly disconnecting and reconnecting some USB thing (probably mic or audio) as you can hear it chime but I was using until yesterday. I had the VR1. It was an abysmal experience. It was suppose to replace my dying g2 5 months ago. It sucked on all fronts for 4000 bucks I expected the image to at least be clear. That sucked big time too. the center FOV was blurry and it was so bad I really can't imagine they all looked like this "how the hell did this get past inspection" I tried what I could with it but quickly lost motivation as it felt like a hardware issue and Somnium was always bragging about how awesome their quality control was... I didn't even bother trying to return it to get it inspected (no refund in US). I'm assuming it either doesn't work with my brain or it was damaged in shipping. a bunch of distortion, chromatic aberration, slight double vision and blurry center FOV. I knew I was screwed after 5 seconds of using it. "**** it's not ****ing collimated what the ****!!!" was the knee jerk words I spit out after putting it on. It looked like broken binoculars or a bent rifle scope. I was worried it was because aspheric lens suck with my brain or a bunch of people with caveman eyeballs are using these things and they are so blind they can't tell wtf is going on. I was super nervous I would be stuck with the g2 for another 4 years My super arrived 3 hrs ago and I gave it a shot... 1) The package is awesome and arrived unscratched it's well secured and protected without setting the buyer back 500 bucks for a pelican case they dont want (vr1) its cardboard and foam.. it's fine 10/10 2) its looks well built and compact enough its bigger than the G2 but its still reasonable the VR1 sticks out from your face too far this is less oddly proportioned it would be nice if it was a pound lighter but this is fine I can deal no problem. 3) after taking it out of the box the first thing I investigated was the cable. The VR1 had 2 of them (ultimate edition) this only has one but the cable on the super kind of sucks. its very stiff and heavy The Vr1, despite having 2 of them wins here as they were nice and supple and were just slightly less annoying than the single cable on the super. It wont even lay flat its still trying to coil up like it was in the box. This will probably need a ceiling mounted hanger. I guess you cant win em all. 4) Let's try out the fit... Put it on and meh. it's kind sucky not horrid but its far from good. the PSVR and G2 are pretty much the gold standard in fit. Companies be like " let's invest 4 million to develop a face interface and headstrap for our new VR headset. NO!!!! just copy the g2 and modify it as little as possible to make it work with your VR headset. OR maybe they didn't invest 4 million in R&D for their new HMD strap and thats the problem??? It doesn't seem like it can be adjusted to fit right and there is too much gap on the sides, also its just seems like it doesnt want to sit level and wants to drop to one side. However it AT LEAST feels like it has some curve to it and has "SOME" degree of proper fit. its like a 5/10 you can tell its kind of trying to fit right. The VR1 felt like strapping a hard back book to your face it was so bad it actually made me angry " Dude... WHAT THE ****" was the instant reaction... The super was more like " ugh... whatever ill deal with this later" 5) let's test it out in Steam VR house as that was my primary test room with the VR1. I would always get a chuckle out of the people who would complain that the image on a vr headset sucked and after much troubleshooting figured out it was because the lens protectors were still stuck on there. SO every new HMD I get I make sure to leave them on just for fun and my first 2 minutes is spent looking at the WMR house, Steam house or in this case the Pimax planet thing. The Pimax planet loads and Im super worried this is going to suck again and I put on the HMD with screen protectors in place... AND.... Its ****ing AWESOME the image is already way better than the VR1. This is great, I look around and everything is in focus I can tell within 1 second that this Is a win its way ahead of the VR1 even with the screen protectors in place over all its worse than the G2 at this point but I feel WAY better. I remove the screen protectors after about a minute and... yeah. Win. this is WAY better than the G2... Finally something better. 6) The FOV doesn't look as big as the VR1 but better than the G2. Dont know what it is but we'll investigate this, hoping I can find a way to get more out of it. This is a problem for later. Im not worried its okay but I dont think it beats the VR1 out of the box here. 7) The software is not bad. I think there are some items lost in translation. My biggest issue was selecting the open Xr runtime. That was the only thing to annoy me so far. Its implied that its selected but you actually have to click it to initialize it. thats really dumb that set me back an Hr trying to figure out why it wasn't launching dcs in VR 8). Finally got dcs to launch and it looks awesome. I set nothing up 100% render resolution and like nothing else just "does it load" type thing. Ran my test mission and everything looks amazing... 19 fps but a really sharp 19 fps. Im not sure how much Ill have to give up in quality but using DFR and some other tricks Im expecting this to end up okay after some tuning. 10) I feel okay about this so far. I dont feel like im screwed (like with the VR1) everything feels like it can be solved and I have a good foundation to work off of. The only issue that seems a bit odd was the walls appeared to bulge out in the steam house. didn't notice this in DCS yet this looks like something that can be fixed in software. Over all distortion is much less than VR1. This will be investigated later. Ill write a review after sometime. 4090, 13900k and 64bg ram
  5. ugh. the setting in general "open xr runtime" that shows open xr as being the run time... yeah you gotta click that because apparently that means "none" and clicking that activates the openxr runtime. Should = open xr runtime "none" with a pull down arrow next to it. then pick openxr runtime to use the open xr runtime...
  6. I can't get the super to run DCS in VR. I followed the steps in the tallymouse guide to get dcs into pimax play. I launch from pimax play it stars the loading window. Pick launch dcs with VR... starts in flat screen. I tried added the dsc exe from bin and from bin-mt into the PP launcher... same problem Started steam vr then tried to launch dcs from PP... same problem Started steam VR and tried to launch DCS from the desktop icon ive always used... same problem. Im clearly overlooking what I think is an obvious problem. Thanks
  7. I didn't actively stop windows update... For some reason its never updated to the latest windows version.
  8. Im running the G2 right now. My last new headset was the VR1, that didnt workout and ive uninstalled its software. I dont have any version of PP installed now or ever I do have WMR installed to run the g2 I hope I can leave that. It sounds like you are having good luck with the current version. I have the open Xr tool kit installed and maybe openxr for wmr. It sounded like the older version of PP gave smoother performance but with similar specs if you are getting the new version to work I might consider trying that... not sure yet. Thanks for the quick guide. Ill be using that.
  9. 64gb of ram, 13900k and a 4090. Thanks for looking into this for me! I guess the real question is do I start with Pp 1.40 or 1.41.1
  10. I think my super is arriving a bit sooner than expected... like tomorrow. I need some pointers are how to get the most out of this with as few mistakes as possible i dont have unlimited time. Everything was lined up and I was going to just follow the tallymouse setup for DCS but It looks like at least a good part of that is invalid now due to the new pixmax play software. 1) Do I use the new pixmax play or is that a waist of time? It sounds like it has some advantages but overall is worse... I dont recall anyone saying it was better overall. So im confused about this. 2) If using the latest PP software is indeed a poor starting point Do I use the version from tallymouse guide or is there a later version that is better? If I should be using the version from tallymouse or one that is compatible with his guide can you please link it? 3) is there some other route I should be following to get the best dcs experience out of this using DFR. Is there a guide for this route. I really really want to avoid another VR1 mess I watched that thing get developed for a year and a half and 2 months before it arrived I had a plan figured out and by the time it arrived software was updating and nothing worked, eyetracking was not great, open xr didnt work, steam was better but didnt support eyetracking which wasnt working well anyhow. I see that trying to repeat is self now but this time Im thankfully not the first and there is actually a functional community support on the forum here because more than 3 people own one. That larger community is more important than you might imagine at first... a never discussed pro. Thanks!
  11. I got a tracking number from UPS. Its not active yet but I should have it in 5 days or less. Here's to hoping this is a better outcome than the VR1 I guess I'll know soon
  12. just got a message saying "Your ordered Crystal Super 50PPD has completed customs clearance in the destination country and is currently being transported to the local warehouse. The shipment is in transit and is expected to arrive at the warehouse in about 1 week, after which it will be shelved and shipped."
  13. Brian Schul mentions this in his accounts of flying the SR71. From 90,000 ft he said that cockpit lighting had to be shutoff and soon his eyes adjusted and he could see all the cockpit gauges lit by starlight, his space suit illuminated by a celestial glow and outside the miklyway was bright stripe across the night sky and areas that usually looked black from the ground now filled with gleaming starts. Despite our incredible speed I felt motionless against the huge expanse of stars. Not sure how much 30k vs 90k makes a difference. Lights of any kind have always and still are the weakest link in the DCS visuals department. They have been improved from none to not great I hope they continue to make improvements.
  14. Pimax has a return period of 14 days... Its not like Vr1 risk levels here lol
  15. I dont know anything about the quest 3. But it sounds like you found a reasonable setting with the old system and now you are using the same HMD on the new system but it doesn't look as good (washed out colors) Did you have any adjustments outside of whatever software the Q3 uses or DCS... for example NVIDIA control panel? maybe those are missing since the new computer Does the Q3 plug into the computer? are you using the same cable in the same type of port? The gamma was set in DCS? Does the HMD respond at all to the changes you make now to the Gamma slider? Gets brighter and darker but still washed out??
  16. Lets try to solve this like a qualified tech support agent. 1) Are you using Vr or are the colors washed out on the monitor? 2) Did it ever work correctly? if so when? What changed? 3) What Vr head set are you using? -Gun
  17. I got a message today informing me that its ready to ship. based on emails it took 3 days during the assembly period but 11 days to get through inspections. Not sure if it failed and they had to start all over or if inspections is a bottleneck. Asked if I wanted to keep the 50ppd unit and if my address was the same. It appears to be moving along...
  18. has the issue with remembering "room scale" or "play space" been fixed yet? I remember people were saying they were having to re enter the boundary for their working enviroment all the time and just removing the HMD could break tracking. I haven't heard many complaints about this recently so I'm not sure if it was fixed or if everyone just gave up hope. Thanks
  19. This morning I got an email saying its now in done with production and into final inspection. The first email said they expected the HMD to be done with production that week which was the friday the 25th. So apparently it's made it through the assembly line and at least functions well enough to be sent off for final testing. This testing phase has no ETA but they threatened to send an email once completed where they will verify my shipping address.. I'm curious how long this will be.
  20. I placed my order in May and got an email now saying "Based on your order details and our production schedule, your headset is planned to be completed within this week." So sounds like maybe I'll get it in Aug sometime.
  21. Awesome I'm glad its working out for you.
  22. Hows this been working out for you? Is the VR1 going to be something you can use or did it end up being a poor buying decision for you?
  23. when you guys get these things please provide some feedback. There isnt much real world DCS feeback on them yet.
  24. Glad it sounds like its working out for you. My Ipd slider was not an issue.... maybe tape it
  25. I had no luck with openXR it could not even run the DCS menu. I used steam VR and this ran well. eye tracking needs your eyeballs to be very close to the lens. use the heat map to make sure it working as expected. I cant remember if it worked with steam vr anyways I remember never using it because I think its only open XR and would require recal every time I moved the HMD on my face. In order to use any of the functions in the VR1 tool a program must be running so with steam house running or DCS running you can then setup eyetracking calibration and stuff like that. Looks like Somnium got their production speed up. That's good. Is the Image clear?
