F-14 A/B feature follow-up, wish list and beyond
Gun Jam replied to scommander2's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This almost seems like a bug to me and I think its been a day 1 issue. I mentioned it in the engine feedback thread as well. Closing the canopy effect world volume but not engine volume. -
This feedback from Tzigy is reassuring. Thank you for sharing.

F-14 A/B feature follow-up, wish list and beyond
Gun Jam replied to scommander2's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
after seeing the F-4 I would love an improved in-cockpit texture/detail. For whatever reason even on day 1 they looked slightly "flat" I'm not exactly sure what the issue is but the result is it looks a bit "cartoonish" The F4 cockpit is a clear generation ahead it looks fantastic. -
One issue I have noticed (I think it was always the case) Opening / closing the canopy effects world volume but not engine volume. If the canopy blocks out a lot of the noise on the aircraft carrier it should effect engine volume to some noticeable extent. In a quiet environment with the engines at idle if you close your eyes you cant tell if the lid is open or closed.

I fly Vr with G2. The new update seems to be working well for the most part but I did notice some apparent lag when flying over a cloud and looking at the edge of the cloud you can see it step forward many times a second. Not sure if its just on the afghan map or global. I dont recall seen this before. The new Afghan map is awesome looking by the way. I could see that being fantastic after a few updates. Lots of variety and good textures. Also cool to see the sun and moon phase GUI I developed still working well -Gun

oh nice. Im wondering how many weeks its going to take to get them once they start shipping?

well I took a gamble on the Ultimate edition. This is most money I've ever bet on what is just slightly better odds than a dice roll. A company with no track record selling a previously shady product that offers no returns and a sub par warranty. This is a wise financial decision just like buying a project car is a wise financial decision AND just like the project car I expect to get beat up every step of the way for at least a few months. The pretty high initial cost then the high cost of all the **** it doesn't ship with that I need and then the high cost of trying to make it all fit and work right....its going to be a long road chasing the carrot but I'm gambling on its potential and my ability to access that potential. To the OP if you could watch over this one for me...much thanks I know you would have probably got one yourself... wish me luck boys!

Ohh okay it looks like I was actually 6 days later. might be a fat minute here.
-
When (date) did you get on the wait list? I haven't got an email yet and I was on like day 2 or 3 I think.
-
Sounds like orders are going to open for these on Thursday for those who are pre registered on the wait list. It looks like public orders will take place about a month or so later. The Vr1 looks like its going to be excellent for sims and should excel at dcs with eye tracking and perhaps can utilize hand tracking as well. Its main competitor seems to be Varjo...the Xr4 because of its price range. The VR1 should be well received by those who enter into the deal expecting to spend a lot of money on the headset and then expect to spend a lot of money and time modding the headset to make it work as that individual envisions it working (mod it to fit your expectations) The VR1 will likely be poorly received by those who think because they spent a lot of money they should receive a hassle free device that is ready to go and meet their expectations and needs right out of the box. This is because it appears that it ships with no controllers, no base stations, no audio solutions and a sub par head strap that never got enough dev time and will likely be considered mostly useless for any duration exceeding a few minutes. Expect really good software pretty early on that allows you to customize just about anything with really good hardware that provides just about the best visuals on ANY Vr headset right now with perhaps the XR4 beating it in a few categories but I expect the VR1 to beat it in more categories and almost match the XR4 in all other categories. Its going to be a 90% headset that is going to require the end user to come up with the last 10% on their own I suspect. I still think im getting one and have a pretty low reg number perhaps ill have it in a month or less. But the price is still unknown still expecting XR4 price range of about 4k.

The crystal or one of its variants right? They seem like the best for the dollar based on what I have read.

Im going to run a few test but Im 90% sure this is still a problem. Flying online TTI servers I was landing at ~150kts on speed with an empty aircraft and 800lbs of fuel. Thanks

something changed with force feedback for F-14
Gun Jam replied to Jeeve79's topic in Bugs and Problems
Tried that. Still didn't get usable results. Plane was trimmed well at mach .85 at 35k. Used NWS to set AP ref. plane enters dive or climb and does not seem to respond .Is this speed and angels outside the AP limit? In what situation did you get it to work? I have never observed AP working for the last 2 or 3 years. Thanks! -

I have the MSFFB2 I just tried this and still cant get it to work. Do you remember the exact name of the item you checked?? -
Can anyone confirm if this is fixed? Sometimes this plane feels like its not performing at all like it should. Ive been flying it since day one a few times a week at lest and I got the delayed start message today and the plane felt like it wasn't performing well at all. Thanks!

Is Syria the best looking and most diverse map?
Gun Jam replied to maverick90's topic in DCS: Syria Map
yes -
I believe the base unit was like 800g or about 2 pounds. It was subjectively described as "Heavy"
-
Its my understanding that an upgrade from any unit to the next level above is not easy, is not recommended and will not be supported by Somnium but technically the parts would be available to you. It was mentioned several times that you should buy the unit you think you'll need as upgrading will be beyond the range of almost all users from a technical stand point.
-
Yeah I was watching that too. No price update on the the 2 levels above the basic. Reading between the lines it appears that the hardware solution for totally removing chromatic aberration does not yield results beyond what can be accomplished with software alone and will be abandoned. (this was implied but not stated so the above is just speculation) it does not come with audio solution for first orders... perhaps never It will not come with base stations or controllers reading between the lines again. Orders are going to be slow to fill at least at first with likley less than 100 units being produced in the first month it will likley take a year to fill orders not on the wait list. Someone who ordered in the first week of reservation will likley receive their unit by august. (again not an official statement its based on the live reaction in answering the question) No answers / questions on if it's even going to have a head strap....I should have asked this. I know they were working on one but it never appeared to get finished. You'll pay tax based on your region so that's cool Im sure there are a few other things I missed.
-
Oh nice! Thanks for the heads up.

Im speculating, as the price for the full kit has not been revealed yet. I was planning on getting the full kit and I suspect that its easily going to cost over 3500. Let's be realistic about this as I need 1 or 2 base stations, some controllers, the cost of the VR1 unit which is still in development and keeps getting more expensive as they add the possibility of chromatic aberration reduction hardware, headphones, eye tracking, hand tracking, MR cams. Then lets add tax, shipping. I also don't even know how the tax works. Im expecting that its going to be my state tax and not euro tax. So yeah by the time I get this delivered, running with audio and controllers Im quite sure I would be kidding myself If I thought I was going to only be spending 3000. But yeah we shall see maybe I'll be surprised in a good way... Doubt it.
