Haha. and OF COURSE, 6 months before the new Xbox. Does it supports Internet Explorer 6 ? :D

Hi Ryan, i don't think you're interrupting but anyway : Yes, usually you run DCS via bootcamp, not VMware/Parallels for maximum power. At this moment, it's clear Win7 has a better popularity than Win8. but i can't say much. There is no problem as you just have a (pseudo-)Native PC like others. BUT Retina Display, basically it's just tinier pixels. You still have a 13 or 15" in front of you. You'd be better with a 30" CinemaDisplay ;) More you have screens, the better for immersion. Moreover, remember mobiles GPU are not as powerful as desktop version. Add that a 2500+ pixel-wide... Think about one thing too, the screen is low on desktop. If you have a stick ahead you, basically, the screen will be masked. On a MBP, you have a compact keyboard. It WILL cause issues in DCS. The Apple Extended KB usb is one of the best KB out there, it supports Break/pause Key, has additional numkeys, but when i play on my MBP, the small KB just doesn't do the job. (no Right CTRL, no page up/dn keys etc...) To sum up : Maybe he would try DCS-W (SU 25) first on a cheap old WinXP copy ? ;) If he wants to invest more time, he will look into a external screen, hoping the GPU can follow without burning. What i say is based on previous experience. I don't have a Retina MBP ATM.

You know, i've promised myself to buy the first PPC G6 tower and "Pown" every single PC user in the world. But IBM/freescale made CELL for PS3 instead. First Gen MacPro was outstanding. I can't say that for 4+ versions. As i said somewhere else, if you look at intel's roadmap, you will be surprised that there's nothing good for Xeons this year. No DDR4, and probably no Haswell but ivy EP instead... As it will probably be N-cores platform, it will be under-clocked. But, i secretly wish Cookie will build an affordable monster, like Jobs did in 2006. For SSDs, Yes, go for 2 smaller SSDs than 1 bigger. Basically, mine is 256GB, almost every games are on it, plus Win7u (largest install). I'm still almost 100Gb free. Depends what you're doing on Mac, maybe you would go for a smaller SSD (128Gb), because they're less games, and Videos doesn't need SSDs (even ProResHQ) The main reason i've bought an SSD, is because DCS is always loading something, making you HDD scratching till you become crazy. The loading time, depending DCS version (buggy or not) is i-n-s-a-n-e. My Mac partition is still on 2Tb HDD and still fast booting/loading. Experience is still great. You might also need to put your emulated bios in AHCI mode, instead of IDE on bootcamp (otherwise your SSD will loose functions and be limited to 200- Mb/s). Send me a mail if you need help on that, it's not quite easy.

Guide To PC Gaming Audio and headphones
Erforce replied to leafer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
From my experience (Ex WoW HL officer, current Eve officer), you'd be better with a USB headset (in case of headphones obviously) Pros : - No signal loss (unless you plug a 10m extender) - front USB connectors on PC towers - Works natively on Macintosh (i remind you Macs has Line-In, that's not unpowered "Low-quality" Mic-In. Never say you will never buy a Mac. Sometimes you simply don't have that choice) Cons : - Freaking overpriced - Does not plug on your shiny iPhone 5 or other iDevices In my case, i've bought Creative USB fatal1ty a long time ago. It's not the best out there now (made for rather small ears), but i didn't had very much alternatives back in those days. -
- Go in ME - Record AVI tool - Launch your track. -> Every SINGLE images will be rendered, and recorded. even if it's at 0.2FPS. then converted to 25fps :) It doesn't mean v1.2.4 has resolved this bug. And yes, 1.2.4, because they are always a leap foward, and 1.2.3 would already be here without this multiplayer issue. But Wags, your show is very nice. i would buy those games again.

I tested this a long time ago, and it's only a firing / exploding smoke issue only. (this bug is well known) Rocket calculations, even if they're wrong at long distance, doesn't cause this issue. It's the same issue with Destroyers/Battleship canons smoke (if you look close enough)

Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread

Computation on a cell phone, probably. But a whole Georgian theater (not Batumi viciny), with scripts, hundreds of groups activations, insane amount of continuous action trigger... Add that different situations developments within the same mission... I doubt a 2Ghz CPU would make it (it already doesn't with a single MLRS fire ;) ). Unless playing a map-only ground commander (which could be interesting...). Of course, if you advance step by step, it make the process a lot easier but the immersion is weaker (but allows savegame progression anyway which is mandatory) Anyway, we all know ED is working on making things better. And i already like the ME. It's unfortunate that we have to switch to lua coding now especially for new features. but i guess i will change my mind when i'll handle this code more efficiently. -
Left eng oil press alert in cold climate
Erforce replied to sigzegv's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Did you activated the Engine Ice protection too? (knob next to rotor anti-ice) You have 3 positions :Ice / Off / Dust protection. Usually, when it's cold outside, your Shark becomes a flying chistmas tree. everything lit on. ;) -
Black shark Radio doesn't work while in the air
Erforce replied to tstorey2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Don't you talk about the Right Alt + *(radio key) ? -
HaHaHa ! Smiled when read "to of the forest", rolled on floor with "101st arborist division" You(and I) are commonly comparing DCS to ArmA engine when talking about ground level. But remember i can drive tanks and APC inside forest too in ArmA! I understand the limitation of DCS 3D engine. I think the solution to forests zones (at least) would be a temporary reduced AI level. (like line of sight = 100m or something.) Even for infantry. But coding is not my passion so i won't argue more.

Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread
Erforce replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS ME is a semi-powerful, but ultra easy engine. Scripting (lua) is a powerful mission editor but harder to manage. DCS is a nice scripted game. You can do wonderful things in single player. But, some not implemented tools could kill the potential Semi-dynamic campaign. Ex : The success Levels : -1x / 0 / +1x next mission It should be possible to determie otherwise more easily like : This flag = automatic success, jump to X mission, not n-1, n+1. Moreover, maybe it could introduce a new ME tool to say if next mission has to load certains (checkboxed) units depending some variable in the last mission. Don't be wrong, with scripts, you CAN do a dynamic campaign. but: 1 : ultra-hard to code and impossible to debug 2 : requires 10Ghz intel's Skylake dual core. Right now, we all know the weak link is the logbook and campaign progression. Apart that, DCS ME is really great. -
A bit old, but... LOL i've made some time ago before script was "official" a mission where you needed to stay below 100m AGL from Maykop to Tuapse. What a pain the my A** so much triggers, switched conditions etc... Add that speed detection segments... The major problem i had, was the Editor just wanted MSL, not AGL. If AGL were there, it would be trivial. I still don't know where to start to learn DCS scripting engine. If someone could provide me a nicely scripted mission, that would be easier for me to understand than those explanatory lines on wiki. Edit : Well, Mist seems to be more precise than some months ago. will take a look. but i still like real examples ;)

Wait, you can play with Carrier's supplies now?

bootcamp - Mac Pro - Windows 8 - DCS World
Erforce replied to intographics's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Unfortunately, UEFI is not EFI. You can see more and more programs which allows you to modify UEFI parameters, which is far better than BIOS. But EFI, no one knows how to tweak this thing, to be polite. it's a shame, but probably wanted by Apple. Also, i've heard old stories about a PC flashed GPU on a mac, would not boot at startup (only when arriving on finder) That's why i flashed my 4890 for mac with netkas utilities. Pushing Alt at start and visually choose the system you want, is... essential ! -
I guess Misery 2.0 can wait now. Not sure i will finish those games+mod before they release Survarium MMOFPS (which, if you think a little, HAS to be 100x better than WarZ. STALKER is the first FPS I know where you need to eat, sleep, drink, ... read 18+ natural reviews ;) ) Cedaway, thank you ! (and thank myself for changing a Farcry thread in STALKER thread. ;) )
-
Don't be fool, The Witcher 2 has some really nice graphics, but it's also a console game. Simple, assisted etc (far more enjoyable than farcry3 personally even mature scenes :D)... Cd Projekt RED will probably not release a PC-Mac only game. Even if they wait the next console generation, our i3+ PCs already outperform them. I think it will be another dumb-candy eye game. But anyway, i like the "ready when ready" it's a good mentality, like Soon™ Maybe a good surprise?

OMG Cedaway, never heard about this mod. Can't seems to know what it's featuring. ATM, for SoC, i have CompleteMod, mainly for graphics. (still at 30% of the story) I saw 2 vids, but, it wasn't really clear, apart you have some extra stuff and 110kg inventory Oo ! can you help me on that? Edit : Ok i gathered some infos around, but still weird. all maps merged, horror spawns, bugs and crashs ;) Should i finish SoC CS and CoP before trying this mod?

bootcamp - Mac Pro - Windows 8 - DCS World
Erforce replied to intographics's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
EtheralN, we don't have enough cables to do that in the MacPro. It would remove my 2 optical drives in my MP1,1, and same for newer models. Unlike Apple way of life, we still need Optical Drive :) For 6pins power cables, i've bought my cable on ebay.us (crazyconn member) Ebay link G5 PCI power cable Note that he later added MacPro compatible ;) I highly discourage to buy a 6+8pins GPU, nor mixing ATI+Nvidia. (Mac hate that) -
Wait, you don't use SST at all? Did you tried it at least for that button? Its not really hard to understand. I use it all the time. only way to use the mini-stick and 3modes+clutch... tell me.

bootcamp - Mac Pro - Windows 8 - DCS World
Erforce replied to intographics's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hehe To be clear, my MP1.1@2.66G runs perfectly FC2 and BMS 4 at max settings. It's pretty smoth in BS2 on any external view. It's not inside cokpit. MacPro has limitations, but as far as i can see, it supports at least 700W. Remember each FB-Dimm is 17w. each Xeon is almost 100w. some options, and support easily my GPU over 300W (2x6 pins). Today GPU are far better optimized than before, so i guess 2 GPU mid+ range should be really ok. (ofc don't try 2x690, and ofc, useless in DCS) Every mac subforum i saw for games was just a whining subforum. Remember Bootcamp has IDE drivers for windows. Which slows down the benefit of a SSD (still great but...) The problem with iMac : it does not love summer and gaming. For MacBook Pro, mine is late 2009 last core2 line@3Ghz +GT9600M, and, well my MP is better. and seeing a CPU@95°C is... disturbing. -
Oh really ? You're everywhere ! that's right, i listenned this music only when i was "safe". During our DRF mega-operations, Teamspeak Russian->English->French was mandatory. I think, in DCS, it would remove "simulation" a little bit
-
MP3 means ED would pay patents for reading this. Same for AAC Eve Online had a jukebox ingame and could listen your favorite music. But in the last patch, they removed it, because it was majoritary unused. (When listening to Eve soundtrack, which is a masterpiece, i used Itunes, more that ingame jukebox) So, imo you will never see that in DCS. don't forget Mp3 is dying. Mp4 (at least video) will see its replacement this year. (h264=>h265) And no-one will convert his library to ogg vorbis.
-
Are you talking about the "C" button ? mine is sensitive, but i use it for trim too without problem. Although for reset, pinkie+C is simpler. Is it programmed via SST or internal DCS ? Mine is SST, but you could try assigning this button via BS settings. Hope your cables are all right too. if you see some lights flickering, it's not good.

Ofc SSD is something you will never drop once you've tried it. As for i5/i7, it's a common discussion on this forum. For DCS titles, sure the i5 is sufficient. I've chosen the i7 not because i'm a vid editor and i make some encoding (on mac anyway), but because i've been suggested here that i7= more futureproof. Haswell don't freaks me anymore. I've ran some games using 4 cores@100% with my Xeons recently. In those cases, running anything else was FPS killer. Don't think about using FRAPS with that. Don't be wrong, Intel stopped the Ghz Expansion. Now it's the Core's race. More and more devs teams take that in account. In sims world, unfortunately it's a different story. As far as i can see, either you have a beautiful graphics engine, and pretty nothing else (dumb AI, arcade style...) Or you have a decent, even little overpowered AI like DCS or ArmA 2, as long as some nice stuff, like ballistic, anti-collision... But very poorly multithreaded. Again it's different for erveryone. I had choice too 4month ago. I did not regret a single millisecond my i7 3770k.
