  1. Just out of curiousity, why is this behaviour considered normal? Sort of cool down period for the LWR?
  2. *shrug* Won't keep me from flying without it :P
  3. I'd like to disagree with GGTharos and claim that there's no "right" or "wrong". While the AP Channels dampening functionality may give you quite an advantage, it kind of seperates the pilot from the frame (as it is with all dampening systems). But there are plenty of threads in the forums that deal with the AP, so go search and read ;) Just fly the way you find the easiest. The trimer is independent from the AP system, hence you should use it normally (i.e. frequently).
  4. :book: wtf?! :music_whistling::lol: Of course, I intended to point to this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=81945 Sorry for any confusion.
  5. Basically confirming what PeterP wrote. I'd just have to add that you'd first of all have to stop fighting. I guess, this is the hardest part as it cannot be covered by hard- and software - it is entirely up to your mind. I found flyiing boring training exercises very useful to overcome the "fight". Starting with a "simple" hover, at 3 m AGL keeping altitude and attitude for at least five minutes - and yes, be anal with it. Extend the hover time or alter your weather conditions once you become comfortable hovering. Next, fly a rectangle at 3 m AGL and constant speed. Do NOT turn the Shark in any direction, just move forward, sidewards, backwards and sidewards again. Switch direction, alter weather conditions etc. as soon as you become used to this. And so on. There is a "Heli School" for FSX somewhere in the net (it seems to be pretty famous, so it should be easy to find it). The lessons published on that site really helped me very much (and I'm not yet done). I've been told that IRL an average PPL(H) trainiing spends about 20 hours just for the two exercises I described above... I have a non FF stick, so I cannot comment on that topic, I guess.
  6. That immortality/invulnerability thingy has been mentioned in the general board: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=8194 and EtherealN noticed it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1334529&postcount=11
  7. :worthy::worthy::worthy: You're not going to tell us, he did them all on his own? :clap_2::thumbup::clap_2:
  8. Same here, although quite some time ago. However, I never expected to be able to fly the Shark after just a few tutorial sessions. In fact, I still wouldn't claim to be able to actually "fly" the Shark after maybe 50 or 60 hours in the pit. It feels more like being able to deal with her somehow ;) I'd neither call me a die hard enthusiast nor do I have a background in aviation. As I usually enjoy any kind of tutorial to get comfortable with the software in question, I also did the BS 1 tutorials (as I did the A10-C tutorials). However, they both didn't teach me anything I couldn't read in the corresponding flight manuals. Instead they left me with way more open questions than I had when starting the tutorial. That's why and when I began to dig the net. There are gazillions of useful documents publicly available at the FAA as well as hundreds of avionics and sim enthisiast sites. /me personally enjoys the FAA documenary most when it comes to avionics as such. Still looking for military documentation covering the use of attack helicopters, though (especially the Shark, ofc). The only limited resource I'd be aware of at the moment would be "time". Everything else is available for free.
  9. To be honest, the BS1 interactive tutorials didn't help me enough to miss them in 1.0.2 or BS 2. Tried A10-C yesterday for the first time. Had the first two tutorials (familarization?) and have to admit that they don't help that much as well. Reading and understanding the corresponding flight manual (plus tons of accompanying materials, e.g. FAA documents) plus extensive training does help. ;)
  10. Hmm... maybe due to my poor french? ;) (However, I never complained, instead I enjoy this environment as a challenge :P)
  11. Yep, that had been noticed in a different thread (can't remember which one, though) already.
  12. Permissible wind values 4tl! ;) Did you manage to take off? Last time I tried, I was stupid enough to taxi - didn't work too well ;)
  13. Yepp, the difference is enormous. However, rotor clashing can be avoided by proper timing. You'd have to release the brake and instantly start the first engine, this usually suffices. To me, the gusts are most difficult to deal with. They make the Shark bounce and with the default "Ramp Trim" ("slightly" backwards) its nose will pitch up pretty easy (solution here: manually change trim to "slightly" forward). All in all, this mission is way more difficult to deal with in BS 2 while it becomes a charm in BS 1 :D
  14. From the BS 2 GUI Manual: Hence, I'd assume a bug - either a documentation bug or a software bug ;)
  15. My current Caatalyst settings with a dual 5770 setup: AA: Application settings, "Morphological Filtering" disabled (enabling this does not drop the framerate but renders text very blurry), Filter "Box" AF: Application decide Tessaliation: Application settings Catalyst A.I.: High Quality (shows little impact on the frames but high impact on rendering quality, that's why), Enable Surface Optimization enabled Mipmap Detail Level: High Quality VSync: Off, unless AA Mode: MSAA - this is the setting with the highest performance impact I could identify so far. Setting this to SSAA for example considerably lowers the framerate. Ingame settings: Textures: High Scenes: High Civ Traffic: Medium Water: High Vis Range: Medium Heat Blur: Off Shadows: High MSAA: 8x HDR: Off TSSAA: Off VSync: Off Cockpit Shadows: On Full Screen: Off No Mirrors This usually yields about 25+ fps on the ground with fair weather conditions. Dragon's "FreeFlight Bad Weather" drops me at < 10 fps so I assume there's quite a bit left to tune :/
  16. I really don't know if VLC is to blame or the file is "damaged" (sort of) as I have absolutely no clue of the entire video topic. Took me a few G searches to find the Firefox hint (VLC is my default and most utterly beloved video player - rarely refuses to play a file or stream). But in this case, FF does the job while VLC doesn't. EDIT: Funny. Just discovered, that rendering "Raw AVI" actually means "Capture your Desktop"! :D All my activities I performed while waiting for the render job to finish are being shown... Rendering "Vorbis + Theora" left me with a video showing the ingame view.
  17. Found the remainders of my rotors hovering a few feet over the ground. While I actually didn't manage to start up the Shark at all this time, I didn't care too much of the broken blades staying a little too close for me to feel safe enough for a hover test ;) Nevertheless, I'm curious if they could potentially harm my Shark on collision.
  18. BS2: NACK. Encountered "No Video, Only Sound" while using VLC for playback of the resulting ogv file, but at least Firefox displays the video beyond the 3:19 watermark. Guess, this is an issue with VLC though.
  19. Great Stuff! Thumbs Up!
  20. Roughly 9 kts. See the conversion table at Wikipedia for additional confusion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_%28unit%29 mkay - didn't know of that DDWFTTW thingy, else I'd probably chosen a different hint. (And I doubt it really applies to the phenomenon of a hovering helicopter being accelerated by the wind - but discussing this would be OT I assume?) Very interesting though, thanks for the hint :) Point is that you'll always drift in the direction the wind is blowing to if you do not compensate that drift accordingly (cyclic/rudder). And "level wing hover" does pretty much sound like a hovering attitude lacking an appropriate wind compensation. Also thought about this one: Given the (brief) description of the PVI-800, I'd expect it to be loaded with "static" data by whomever and prior to machine startup while the tower might be able to use real-time data. Hence the difference.
  21. Wind velocity is being displayed in m/s. 5 m/s equals 18 km/h and will render your Shark accelerating to the 40 km/h you mentioned within just a few seconds ("Uniform Acceleration", s.a. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acceleration#Uniform_acceleration).
  22. Seems as if nVidia copes (way) better with BS2? Tried to fly Dragon's "Bad Weather" training mission today with my dual 5770 setup (Cat11.10, 8GB RAM, i5 2500K@default, W7 x64). Tried. At about 7 or 8 fps (according to the built-in counter), it was no more fun at all. No more Heat Blur, no HDR, no Mirrors, med Visibility, all other setting @ med - trying to find some more performance boosters (hey, BF3@high runs smooth!)
  23. In theory, you should be able to install BS 2. See also the "Black Shark 2 Released" thred. However, I don't know if anyone actually did so.
  24. Yay, great stuff! "Unfortunately, this UMG-music-content is not available in Germany because GEMA has not granted the respective music publishing rights." :megalol: :furious: :yay::megalol:
  25. Hi Viper, yes, and it didn't work. Wall of Text: However, I managed to go one step beyond by actually being able to have the new installer starting (!) the setup. YAY! Alas, it aborted with a "device I/O error" while trying to extract a "ShipModel" (not exactly sure about the name, though) file. Guess, this is a corrupt .bin file, but as I don't know which one is affected I''m currently downloading all three .bin files again. My guess is the third .bin as I had to take it from a different mirror (FTP1 seems to be either broken or too limited in terms of number of parallel connection as it asks me for a login every time). Sort of confirmed, FTP3 has probably a broken .bin file. I took it from FTP4 this time and everything worked fine. However, for those few who experience similar symptoms, even with the new installer and a brand new (aka "fresh") install of BS1, here is what I had to do to make "it" happen: As usual, I deny any responsability or liability for any kind of trouble you may encounter. This is just a description of the steps I took so far. It worked for me, but it doesn't necessarily work for anyone else. 1. DEACTIVATE BS1 (use Ka-50\bin\stable\protect.exe or Ka-50\bin\x86\stable\protect.exe respectively to do so and note the reactivation key!). Thanks to Wags and/or Viper whoever actually mentioned this! This is important since it might save you a precioussss activation later on! 2. Uninstall BS 1 (using the uninstall routine supplied through the start menu or the control panel) 3. Clear the Virtual Store (thanks to those who wrote about it ages ago but nevertheless related to BS 1 installation issues). It is located in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\%PATH_TO_BS1% e.g. C:\Users\my_user\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics. Delete or rename the "Ka-50" Folder. WARNING: Deleting the "Ka-50" Folder will delete your individual settings as well as all your pilot's data! So I'd assume, renaming would be the more pleasant choice, as you could restore it easily after a successful BS 2 installation... 4. Clear the Registry by deleting or renaming any remainders of the folders HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Eagle Dynamics\BlackShark and HKCU\Software\Eagle Dynamics\Black Shark (HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE; HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER). I couldn't find any other, so I guess deleting/renaming these does the job. That's for the uninstallation of BS1, now the important part, the installation of BS 2: 5. If not the case (as it is with me): Log In As Administrator! This seems to me a lucky combination of the "Run as Administrator" thingy introduced with Win7/Vista and the installer ignoring the possibility of being "run as". Haven't tried the installation using the "runas" command, but that's mereley due to my impatience... You might safely skip this if you don't care and use the Administrator account as your regular account anyway... 6. Install and re-activate (see above) BS 1. Starting a mission ("Instant Action" is surely the most convenient way to do so) is mandatory since all the folders and registry entries are ONLY crated by the Sim itself but NOT by the Startup screen! Quit, once the sim loaded and you made it a mile or so... 7. Install BS 2 and wait an age or two (installation of BS 2 takes significantly longer than the plain BS 1 installation) Of course, all this applies only if your regular account is NOT the Administrator account! (However, Administrator users should not have encountered "my" issues at all, I assume). 8. Deactivate BS 1, once the installation of BS 2 succeeded. Note the key. Deactivation is (sort of) mandatory as long as you don't want to spend an additional activation, since the license information is stored in the user specific part of the Windows Registry. Leaving BS 1 activated for the Administrator account doesn't necessarily provide any other user account on your PC with a working (i.e. activated) copy of BS 1. 9. Log off from the Administrator account and log in as your regular user. 10. Reactivate BS 1 (start a mission to see if everything is OK) and activate BS 2. I'm finally about to finish #10 and start BS 2 for the first time. Until now, everything worked fine and I'm confident to see the last step to succeed as well. Finally, I'm well dissappointed with the Administrator account thingy. While this is clearly (and in bold letters) written at the A10-C download page, the BS 2 download page lacks this information which could have been added so easily. Guess, it might be worth to add it to the download page... Thanks for all the fish ... ooops, different story ;)
