Thanks, never noticed it happening in the videos I watched.Any idea why the control stick moves back and forth repeatedly?
-
I can trim pretty good with my keyboard but I wonder if A10 pilots really trim much anyway with autopilot installed. Its an instantaneous trim function that works better than trim. And I have a question I think might be related to trim. When I do a ramp start the control stick slowly moves forward and backwards the whole time.Any idea why thats happening? Also, the APU gen starts flashing and sounding a warning after starting the first engine....is that normal?

Yep,I always thought they should shrink the size of a joystick to accommodate that we fly from a desk and I have large hands. This old thrustmaster was perfect IMO and all they need is a bit larger top with more buttons. http://www.joy-stick.net/images/TopGun.gif

Thanks I will just put PAC on a button also.Just set on the X65f and its gonna be my Christmas gift to myself. ;) One thing I know I will love about the X65.On a normal stick that moves, when you push the stick forward it feels so awkward to then reach the top buttons making you bend your wrist up and then forward. On a stick that doesn't move the pressing of the top buttons is always the same no matter how much stick input you are giving. If that makes sense.....

Thanks friend.:)

Thanks fellas.Gotta read the manual LOL. :)

Can someone plz point me to how to control the amount of turbulence?
-
As indicated above^^did you calibrate in windows?Could be your rudder pedals are not moving in game their full amount.I was amazed at how sluggish the A10 seemed until I checked in options and saw I was only getting half deflection in both axis.
-
But how does it stabilize? I would think that when you fire the PAC noses the plane down hard and fast to compensate and then returns the elevator to position you had it before you fire?
-
I would think a small jet would not flex like the video I posted but there will be some type of movement. X-plane wing flex. :) SU27....look closely at the wing in lower corner and you will see a slight flutter.

Thanks guys gonna study the blog first. What do you mean when you say zoom in on PAC1?Does this have to do with a two stage trigger.Right now I am just learning to ramp start/fly and navigate and will get into the meat of this sim when I get my X65f around Christmas and I read that it does not have a two stage trigger. And can I set it so it only zooms a certain amount? While we are on the PAC subject, exactly how does this work.Does an autopilot take over and control the recoil with no input of the pilot needed?

The SHIFT-j in cockpit feels ok but I feel lacks the effect of wing flexing to properly simulate.Wing flexing is the reason I try for windows right by the wings when I fly.Just love the look of it especially when you do tiny little drops in altitude and the wings flex upon bottoming.

Thanks Sinky I will try it out.Got a question for you since you know a bit about the views.I would like to control my zoom so that you can only zoom in a certain amount and vice versa zoom out only a certain amount.Do you know what I could change to set this to my liking? Another question I have is does anybody know what the hud frame dimensions are.I like to zoom in only to this point as a realism point for me.

I agree and lowering the incockpit sounds to 75 really makes closing the canopy a necessity. Just installed 1.1.1.0 and the new canopy sounds alone are excellent!!What I also like is when you turn to look at your rear left or right side and the engine sound slightly changes. Its a superb effect that reminds me of when I get a window seat right next to the engines in a commercial airliner. The only effect missing is the slight shuddering planes do.

Thats the one

Greetings from a new pilot..and a n00b question or two

Kylania, thanks will give it a go.I actually like to fly with trackir and also with snap views for quick switch changes by pressing the NUM 0 key.....view is dead stable and allows me quicker switching. -
I'll be honest here and say right out that I watched DCS:A10 whole development and just now purchased it due to not liking the cockpit view.In all the videos I watched it looked fisheyed and it only got worse when I purchased it.Just didn't fly much since it just felt off to me. But just now I tried PerterP's mod and using the tweaked with centered hud it was better but now the gun cross was too high.I thought it was just not gonna happen and then I stumble upon Macktheknight's post about using the seat height adjustment and voila I am flying the Hog!!I lower the seat height until I see the gun cross or whatever that dashed circle is. Then I used Chayenne's recomendation of using the trackir zoom in to see the full hud and WOW....the devs should really incorporate this as default.Tell players they need to adjust seat height upon entering the cockpit....adds to immersion.;) Thank you Chayenne,PeterP and Macktheknight!! :pilotfly::D:pilotfly: Question, anyone can point me to the mod that restricts the amount you can turn your head?I can't find it no matter how hard I look.

Problem with snap views is that the huge amount of buttons you must press on the HOTAS are gonna get in the way of the snap view buttons. In a WW2/WW1 type sim you can easily do it and it actually makes you more in tune with your angles to the enemy plane and the ground. For me trackIR sucks until I turn off all the axis and just leave pitch and yaw on.When I run 6DOF in DCS:A10 the view looks extremely off and just throws me off. No one mentioned the X65f annd its in between the Warthog and the X52Pro. -
Isnt zooming on the HUD kind of cheating?
wolfstriked replied to Avatar72's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Or another idea would be to have tiny dots at a distance as mentioned and when you get closer they turn not into labels but into tiny symbols that could signify what they are. + = Sam * = AAA #= Tank Make them a muted brown or even black to blend in better. -

For me zooming in ruins immersion nevermind labels.I watch a ton of DCS videos and the ones I like the most are the ones that have no labels and the player doesn't zoom much.Looks more real to me this way and reminds me of the great Ironhand videos where he would say things like "somewhere down in that valley is a sam ready to fire on me" and then you see the ignition and smoke trail. I see some posts about dots or vehicle magnification and both are good ideas. What about to flash the vehicle pixels.I present this video to show what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SbN8ftrTtaU In it you will notice sams firing, large weapons being fired and resultant explosions from ground targets taking damage. Now turn vehicles into dots at certain distance and then have them flash but with muted colors so it doesn't show up like an explosion does now in this video.Maybe have stationary vehicles flash once every 5 seconds and moving vehicles one every 3 secs....as example. -
Is my landing with full fuel and full loadouts not realistic then?I think that would be a big waste of money to dump ordnance and fuel just to land with minimal safety issues.

Hog taxies too hot, constant wheelbrakes needed

Hey folks, finally splurged for A10c and love it so far.Runs pretty good with the genuis:thumbup::thumbup:idea to limit people from using high settings unless their PC is 64bit.So at highest setting I can run right now it is very smooth.Wish most games did this stuff since once you play with graphics at highest then you find that it looks bad when you have to revert all the way back in settings.I wonder if upgrading OS will be worthwhile for me? Ok,back to braking. There is one thing that just throws me though with A10c,though I know many here will say that is how it is in real life.:PWhat I am talking about is how the plane swerves under braking and also does this erratic animation of what I can only describe as shuttering. At first I thought I blew my tires on each landing.:huh:So I turned off anti-skid and its slightly less shuttering but still swerves like crazy. When I am taxiing and keeping jet relatively slow the nose just drops under braking and it feels so real to me.But again any amount of speed and then braking is very erratic and feels off to my brain. Now I understand the swerving when you turn off anti-skid but its not realistic since the ground is dry and I wouldn't be swerving back and forth.I know its silly but it kinda ruins my excitement for A10c.Could be that I have been racing Iracing for awhile now with its exceptional tire model. One thing I must say here though is that the physics of when you are actually swerving down runway is awesome.Just pick up speed and start veering left and right and the jet rolls and slides with a very real feel to it...Nice job on that one!!:D Just feel that the anti-lock brakes and the actual swerving is canned and I can see right thru it. :(
