The fighter fight: MiG-29 vs. F-15 vs. Su-27 vs. Su-33
UWBuRn replied to Alexrey's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Funny, in LOMAC the MIG-29A's would be racking up the kills. Sounds like something isn't terribly well simulated. Maybe if you're at the F-15 stick, GG, yes. :D C'mon, there are things mismodeled in Lock On, but not to this extent. ;) Anyway, another thread hijacked by fanboys. :music_whistling: -
Just like turning on a beacon.

No, it's YOUR fault shooting at unknown target. Personally i prefer to be shot down than risk a team kill. Beside this, collaboration is a good thing but you can't expect this all times: people may have good reason to keep the ecm on or maybe they are too busy dealing with some threat to open the chat and respond you.

One of the worts movie ever seen? Stealth. Was on tv past week, i knew it was bad crap but spent some watching it. Ok being crap, but watching that movie left me in catatonic state... :D

Patch 1.13 Requested Features/Fixes List (*Merged)
UWBuRn replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I think it's not made by LUA script, just set up a macro on your joystick or on your keyboard. Plus LUA script can already be disabled server side. The problem has been already discussed, IIRC if you search in this topic you will find also some proposed solution. -
Beryoza - no sound at other planes than default
UWBuRn replied to Boberro's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I think is because sounds are mapped in cockpits, and for non default planes you are not using the same 27 pit but the 1.02 one. Maybe you should try putting in the old wav sounds from the 1.02 (FC uses ogg) and see if it works. -

What a reasonable request in the 1.13 contest... almost requesting a F-15 DCS module with that list. :music_whistling: I taught was clear that the patch is definitely not about new (at least, so relevant ones) features. :smilewink: -

Ice, often in topics like this some attitudes become unpleasant, sometimes people can't avoid that, anyway i didn't see notable attacks to ED. Notching, rolling, outmaneuvering, ok... some of them might be admissible at some degree but some thigs are just plain wrong and for a sim called "modern air combat" (at least, it used to), in my opinion, is legitimate expecting that thoose are going to be fixed. Now it's two years since 1.12, many people expected some of thoose issues being solved in that patch, then the timetable switched to "maybe in BS", and then "maybe in 1.13", if 1.13 will came out. No surprise that someone (including me) is impatient. -

Boomerang? Never heard "that" called in this way, but seen this in LO, using 27ER in HOJ at very high altitude: was just too funny looking at the missile from F6 making a 180° turn and start chasing the bandit. :megalol: @GGTharos Comparing the AIM-7E, employed by a plane without doppler radar, with the R-27 on 29/27 (their radar mustn't be great too in scan, but in tracking should work ok) sounds a bit odd... i mean, not impossible (many missiles were overrated before beign used on the field), but still, odd. The Sparrow in Vietnam was conditioned by ROE, enviromental condition, difficulties in mantaining a stable lock, inability to perform lookdown shootdown engagements and so on, leading the PK to about 0.1. I tried to search something about R-27 but i came up with nothing (well, was late and had to stop searching). :no_sad: If you (or someone else) have find something, would you mind share it? I would be interested in reading something about that argument. :) -

Sorry Pilotasso, i've red only now your post. In my vid "spamming" was just made to show that it's not the case of one missile on ten but is a SURE thing. And for one missile you don't need many chaff. Plus, i never spam my missiles untill i need to (read when i see that the previous missile has been trashed). As for other factors affecting SARHs effectiveness i agree with you BUT making a proper evasive maneuver like beaming require different skills than hitting the chaff button and in general it's harder. That would also mean that if you're in the NEZ, you will have little chance of surviving, and in long BVR you will have to take some initiative to face the threat. -

About Etipioan-Eritrean war info are contradictory: some source reportes more than one kill with R-27R, IIRC seven, most of them using two R-27R. But i agree, nothing sure about that. Don't wanna turn this in a topic about R-27 but this can be extended to other missiles too: even in their weaknesses missiles modelling require some tweaking, otherwise there will be always the tendency to exploit thoose flaws and HL you can see this: some people doesn't even break facing SARHs. Anyway the missiles effectiveness problem has several causes, as a too optimistic model for the RWR and the fact that in a simulation you can learn from your own errors and if you get shot down you can just hit recover. :) In such this scenario, well, imho, tweaking the missiles should help improving things at least in one direction: making the fights a little more predictable and more regoulated, so, if you get in BAD tactical situations, you die, without forcing the enemy to do ninja maneuvers to get you. I don't know how accurate is the actual modelling for this or that missile, as i never had a chance to fire a R-27 or an AIM-7 (if you ask me, i would bet heavily thats not accurate :D) but i'm deeply convinced that making missile more effective when proper tactics (and with this i mean something close to RL tactics) to evade them aren't employed, would improve in general the "accuracy" of combat. From my point of view, at the moment is like tossing dice. :( -

I hardly believe that 4 (not launched toghether, but in sequence, one after the previous was clearly trashed) missiles coming in from 10 o'clock below (look up-shoot up situation, so no ground clutter) will leave the target untouched. :music_whistling: Anyway, to better argument what i'm saying, watch this (sorry for stealing you're idea, Yoda): http://www.thestormbringers.com/Video/Super%20Chaffs.wmv That's just chaffing, altitude is 6000 m (20000 ft), i'm slightly diving only to avoid being hit by unguided rockets getting too close. :joystick: -

UWBuRn replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Obsolete maybe, totally dumb i would bet no... they should be spoofed by chaffs as soon as they enter the rear aspect realm. You can come from an unexpected direction as long as you want but if a couple of chaffs kill the missile then again is useless. Would not be the first time firing ALL my four ERs at a target under 10 km: FOX1, i see the smoke trail turning to the chaff, FOX1, just the same, FOX1, the missile explodes at the chaff, FOX1, it goes behind its tail... WTF! -

UWBuRn replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Sorry, but i must disagree: try spoofing a R-27ER or an AIM-7 by flying straight to the missile and dumping chaffs: that ALWAYS works. Both ARH and SARH missiles needs to be fixed and let me remind you that Flankers only carry SARH, so fixing only ARH would give an unfair and unrealistc advantage to the Eagle and to the Fulcrum. As for ET sniping, i agree, it's exagerated and must be fixed but: 1. With broken ERs, sometimes your only chance is the ET, so no surprise that's so much exploited 2. Some ppl should learn to cut the AB when the IR threat is high: too easy complaining about being blasted when you're going full AB all the time (not your case, BUT someone does that) -

UWBuRn replied to Colt40Five's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Been knowing this for ages... over waht you showed, chaffs are also uber effective in front aspect against SARHs. Try to believe: just fly straight and dump a cloud of chaff. The point is, why bothering doing A2A with this crap? After TWO YEARS (almost) of 1.12a this is just boring. In my opinion FC at the moment is just good for mud movers and formation flying. If i want to fly A2A i'm switching to Open Falcon and if i want to take a ride on the Flanker i run the old 1.02 (heavily tweaked): rough simulation in many areas and more bugs compared to FC, but at least ECM blinking, magic chaffs and magic notching weren't there (the three most plaguing issues in BVR, at least for me). -
I guess in FC it uses the logic of the selected mode, the gun mode is a "sub mode"... usually i switch to vertical and then i select the gun so when the target get in the correct position it get locked automatically. Anyway, VS doesn't require you to hit the lock button while is needed for the boresight and for the helmet. In the old 1.02 the lock button pressing was requiered also for the VS.

The downloadable version never check the disk... in fact you don't have a disk (except th Modern Air Combat one). :P

Don't mind. :) The animated banner is really nice indeed!

Uh, used LO since the demo and never used padlock. Tnx for the explainment. :)

Erh, a stupid question... on the banner of the site, in the right you can see the F-15 HUD with the gun pipper activated: what's that cross on the TD box? I've never seen that. Maybe something from BS? :joystick: BTW, nice site in the layout, unfortunately my german is equal to zero. :(

Yes Yoda, got the point, basically i was meaning the same. As for Falcon, presently i have only AF, i should spend few time about OF, hope it's well documented. Back IT... Kula, more than once i've been able to conduct succesfully long range engagements with the Su-27 and i've also scored some kills over 70km away flying very high, so if the situation isn't too confused by ECM and you're not shooting against people very low... you can't do that all the time, and usually blast the bandit with an ET it's easier. But when it works is very satisfactory. And after have learnt that i stopped flying the 15 as my favourite. :)
-
Don't know at wich distance they fired, anyway... MiG-29s scored 2 R-27R kills, 2 R-73 kills and 1 gun kill. Su-27s scored 5 R-27R kills and 3 R-73 kills. All R-27R kills involved multiple missile launch. Red this on a site reporting scorings in different theaters, can't remember wich one unfortunately.

Yoda, agree with you 100%. I still fly in HL some time, but there real tactics are few time useful, nonetheless i keep apllying them even if sometimes i get mad for killing that bandit and i end in some not so nice situations. Anyway, real tactics doesn't fit well mainly not for weapons modelling but for other factors, MANY other factors. Lack of a precise task in the mission (just sweeping around to kill someone), objectives too close (and ppl flying extremely low, careless of fuel efficiency), a continous wave of enemy planes respawning and lack of coordination between aircrafts. So, what you expect? If you wanna enjoy shooting some bandits without expecting too much you can go on HL and have some fun. Otherwise, if you wanna take part of a mission there's LOCERF, fly with a virtual squadron etc.
