[Closed] DCSWorld 1.2.6.19532, Starforce VM Error Dialog
xaoslaad replied to LUSO's topic in Multiplayer Issues
You're right that that is where you enter the key. that's the exe to go with the dll. Now search starforce protect dll and see that they are one and the same. You're comical in your denial. http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/info.phtml?c=83 -

Yes it does. What do you think protect.dll is. Starforce. Look in DCS World. This is included. And I fully realize the graphics capabilties provided by a KVM vm might be insufficient for running DCS World, or at the least require some additional tuning, while other virtualization products might work more readily. Still changes nothing. It just means I won't be able to verify that it can be run. -

Rhinox, and your point is? It still demonstrates that your statement about world not using starforce is false. It may not be prompting you for a key if you dont have any modules installed but it is still running on startup. Anyway, I tried running world in a KVM vm and all it did is repeatedly crash to desktop. I didn't get any dialog about starforce, just instant crash. -

What? DCS World does too use Starforce. Go ahead and try to run it in wine. I'll wait. After you install and try to run it and it explodes on protect.dll (that'd be starforce), come back and tell me again. -
because the multiplayer servers are always empty
xaoslaad replied to Voodoo-chacal's topic in Multiplayer
Not lately, unless some people I know want to fly: I tend to crash to desktop half the time before I even get the plane taxiing. Things lag badly even when I do get started. A lot of time missions are left running for hours after they're over and all/most of the targets/objectives are done. And even after all that I can managed to get gunned down on the taxi way by some jerk thinking he's funny, because there is no real dedicated server with banning/kicking capability. At least when I play by myself I can be reasonably assured of completing the mission. -
amazon too, though more expensive. I think this is the size he specified, or close to it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KV38ES 1/2 inch x 1/8" = about 12mm x 3mm, but please do check my math and what he specified in the video before paying.

Fair enough statement. I just looked up my board specs again and it has pci-e 3.0 16x slots and 2.0 1x slots. It's not the newest thing on the block for sure (z77 mpower), so maybe 3.0 x1 slots (and cards) are becoming more common now? Anyway, just something to be aware of.
-
How would USB 3 hold up? Anyone know? I don't, but I'd be curious. Also be wary of pci-e 1x sata iii expansion cards. They can not hold up to sata iii 6gbps speeds (but they will get you more than sata ii), though I believe there are one or two x4 cards on the market now that should be able to live up to a sata iii ssd's full performance.

What is this? Like back in the mid-west where they thought if we went on a train going more than 30 mph you'd automatically die? If I was in a plane on fire, just hit by a missile, and somehow miraculously survived, I'd think it shit that I have to wait to slow down or take my chances with exploding in a fireball. I'd want to eject and take my chances with the wind, helmet, seat, etc. I don't think anyone promised that you'd be ready to run a marathon after getting to the ground post ejection. Broken bones, scrapes, bruises, dislocations, even death are all probably a potential reality. Still better than EXPLODING. http://www.ejectionsite.com/ejectfaq.htm 780*1.6 mph=1248mph and he survived. Where did you come up with 900mph? And you have at least 1 SR-71 pilot ejecting at Mach 3 at 80,000 feet, though as the site/blurb below point out the force at that altitude is significantly less. So, without doing any research whatsoever you're asking for a silly and unrealistic feature of automatic death for ejecting at high speed. Why? "Although this seems to be an easy question, looks can be deceiving. 'How fast' is an imprecise question as it can be answered in several ways, for example: speed over ground, Knots Indicated Air Speed (KIAS), Knots Equivalent Air Speed (KEAS) and so forth. For example, some SR-71 pilots are rumored to have ejected at speeds of Mach 3 at 80,000 feet. This is a ground speed of around 2000 miles per hour, yet due to the thinner atmosphere at that altitude, the speed is closer to 400 KEAS. That is more like a 460 miles per hour. An F-15E pilot survived an ejection at a very small ground speed as he was traveling almost straight down in a spin, yet he was traveling at 780 MPH. This is over 1.6 times faster in equivalent air speed. Another difficulty with answering this question is determining the exact speed. Since most ejections occur in situations that are changing rapidly, it is difficult to get an exact speed of the ejection. Most ejection speeds are calculated values based on the recollections of the crewman, and what little evidence survives the aircraft's destruction. This can lead to very imprecise numbers. In the first known case of a man surviving a supersonic ejection, George Smith(IIRC will be verified) ejected from an F-100 Super Sabre in a dive. It was known that he ejected supersonically due to eyewitnesses who heard and saw the ejection from nearby based on the sounds of the sonic booms and the visual clues of the crash."

There are mods you can google for. People have even posted them here, using battery packs for charging cell phones on the go. They strike me as rather large for the purpose though...

Yep. I can find use for a 120GB SSD, but if you have the money when buying, go bigger than you think you'll need. :)

You can always add the disk to your PC, move the contents (not the folder itself) of the DCS World folder to somewhere temporary (say a folder on your desktop, somewhere easy to keep track of it), mount the disk under the DCS World folder instead of/in addition to giving it a drive letter, and then move the contents of the folder back. (more or less like this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11253-mount-drives-partitions-folder.html) No messing with changing registry entries or mucking with short cuts. I feel your pain though. I went up to a 240GB SSD from a 120GB. I only had ~32 GB free. 26GB was going to be SERIOUSLY pushing it. I doubt I could have the installer on the drive and install it at the same time even... Hopefully by the time I need a 500 the prices are way way down. FWIW the Samsung EVO SSD's have been on sale a lot lately. My 120 and the other I have in my other system were the previous (non-pro) samsung 840 ssd's and they have treated me well so far. I don't think they're the fastest, but they seemed reliable. Considering I've only had the EVO like 2 days I can't speak much for it, save that the price was reasonable on sale.

I think he means to share you need to upload it to Youtube. Considering how big fraps files can be that can take awhile. My suggestion: run it through handbrake to make it way way way smaller and hasten your youtube upload.

Glad you got it working. No need to have to explain about why you don't want to have to login. I come from the Linux world (both work and home, save to run DCS and Arma) and at work I'm always cursing about why nothing supports GSSAPI (I'm 100% certain Windows has an equivelant, but I don't know what it's called) Anyway, I get it, and I don't want to log in at home either.

It prompted you to link it to your Windows Live account during the upgrade. You can jump through hoops to skip it (say you don't have an account and when it brings you to create a new one click cancel...) but sounds like you did not. At any rate, your login id is now likely your email address associated with your Windows Live account, probably not what you think it is. You can revert to your local account easily enough under User Accounts, but I'd bet $10 bucks you're entering the wrong username (again it should be the email associated with your windows live account unless you opt to go through reverting it to a local account) for login in netplwiz,exe,..

Super glue works. I think mine is broken in the same place, if I understand (bottom most joint that allowed the three led piece to twist), and that worked great for me. Don't even notice the difference. These things are notoriously easy to break and I've almost done the other joint in before as well. If I do, it will be super glue for that one as well. I'm rather hoping the next track ir can just track your face without the ir stuff like the xbox stuff or whatever. Would be nice to loose the silly clip for good. But who knows.

I don't think that those that have just succeeded upgrading want to think about downgrading. And not faster yet. There were some threads about them using DX 11.1 features for Edge though, so it might prove faster soon-ish. DX 11.1 is available in Win 8+ only (long winded: and even then only with 600 and 700 series nvidia cards and probably a handful of ati cards as well. DX11.1 has 11_0 and 11_1 compatibility levels just to confuse the issue even more..., so reading about the mess gives me a headache, but I gather the 3d features of 11.1 are implemented on the 600 series though not the 2d features so the 600 series is not technically an 11.1 capable, card but it should be able to do whatever 3d voodoo will be used to speed up the game if they really do use it. Anyway, that's what my reading told me. I could be wrong. The information available is not very clear either about edge, nvidia support for DX 11.1, etc.) So if it does prove faster your advice is then a double kick to the junk dealing with downgrading just so you can consider upgrading again to eek out some additional frames...

If it's any consolation, when it failed the first go round, it did not try to redownload for the second try. It was quick to verify the download, and then finish up. Not really upset that it wasn't downloadable, save that if I ever have to reinstall I have to download it again, but then again for me at least the download was less than an hour. Don't know if that was just because of decent internet access or the time at which I did it, but regardless not the worst thing in the world.

search for netplwiz.exe and uncheck the user must enter password to login or whatever. You will have to enter your username and password again. I don't know why it breaks, but it's a trivial thing to set up/fix. edit: link with instructions: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/auto-logon-windows-7.htm

Install went fast for me, but had to do it twice. It did not explain to my why it could not finish the first time, but a shutdown, startup, and rerun did the trick. Had the plus side of fixing bluetooth, which I never used or cared about much, but it's nice to see it working again... DCS was fine afterwards as well.

Newer... And as much as I like the pro flight combat rudder pedals I'll avoid their sticks for good after all the pain this one has caused me.
-
Probably not. Now that you mention it I've been blown up by the AI as well...
-
Yes. You need to be careful about firing AMRAAM's if you have friendlies in front of you. I fired an AMRAAM and a friendlies missile uthe friendly. Not good. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Think they have a new stick. X-65 or something; not sure if they're selling the 52 anymore. Probably for the best. Mine almost took a flight across the room one day - the thumb stuck on the throttle gets stuck and drifts on mine - have to play games to get it to stop. I have a Warthog on my Amazon wish list and I think my wife is going to get it for christmas just so she doesn't have to listen to me cursing at the 52ProPoS anymore. Nothing like setting up to play just to get held up by crummy hardware.

Starforce is still in use on the Steam version. I tried it for laughs under WINE to see if it would run (pre World you could get it to run fine until you started a mission where you'd get prompted for a key) on Linux. It blew up on protect.dll just as the direct download version does. I'm with you though. Would love to see SF go away.
