  1. In the end a Vietnam map and F-4's and MiG-21's would be really sweet. We can always dream. Especially since with have H Huey's already and Golf Cobras coming. 4 good aircraft for the time period would be a really good start.
  2. OK. Put some bombs and rockets on it. Have them attack ground targets on the other side of the boarder. If a 21 and 10 pass each other they can tangle. Otherwise no. Have the 15's and 29's chew each other and the 10's and 21's up. You make a mission with all your great ideas. So far I'm the only one suggesting at least putting some planes on the map and having them tangle. :-P
  3. I don't disagree. Which is why I suggested throwing in the F-15C's and MiG29S's. Suddenly the 21's have something to worry about rather than just smoking A-10C's from on high, but shouldn't be utterly crushed by the 15's either because they'll have the 29's keeping 'em busy too. And while the A-10's are disadvantaged on a head on fight, if the terrain is decent they can use that to their advantage. And they probably want to get in, hit some targets, and get out while the gettin's good so light loads, move fast and precise, definitely carry a pair of AIM-9's, etc. Nobodies day will be easy, but everyone can have fun.... anyway, was just a thought. Modify to taste.
  4. North Korea still operates the MiG-21Bis[1] and we still operate the A-10C and have some stationed in South Korea.[2] I don't think the MiG-21 will be all that disadvantaged against an A-10C and although I'd rather not see it come to that they could one day meet. Hopefully the A-10C's would be fairly well defended against air threats, but just because the aircraft is old doesn't mean it is gone and won't ever face a modern threat. You could easily throw together a mission where MiG-21's are hunting A-10C's while MiG-29S's (also operated by NK, granted the SE)[3] and F-15C's are duking it out for air superiority.... Ok, so we don't have a North Korea map. So what. Use your imagination. Sochi is the 38th Parallel. Ready, GO! ;) (There are F-15C's at Kadena[4], They could be there in no time for anyone keeping track of what's in the area.) 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-21#Operators 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Republic_A-10_Thunderbolt_II#Operators 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan_MiG-29#Operators 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_McDonnell_Douglas_F-15_Eagle_operators
  5. Make sure your using that ~6 digit number at the top left rather than the longer string beneath it in parenthesis. That was my first mistake, not sure if it's also yours or not, but worth mentioning.
  6. You can also turn on the Shkval and Phantasmagoria (O and I respectively) at the same time. Lock up the target with the Phantasmagoria, turn off the phantasmagoria (I), change weapons (D) to something TV or Laser guided and kill it with that. I've used this approach when out of ARM's more than once.
  7. What kills me is the random spots on the ground that are jet black (or white) in stark contrast to everything else around them. Guess this is some crazy gopher party going on just below the surface. A running tank on a cold night doesn't even show as brightly as those areas.
  8. Bah, that's nothing. Tis but a flesh wound. Look at the chopper I was able to put down on the ground: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1988745&postcount=9208
  9. Click Options, Select the Controls tab Select Su-25T. (I'll use as an example Su-25T since every one has it. Make sure you select the correct aircraft and mode Sim/Game if applicable if you're trying to do it for something else) Click Axis Assign at the bottom. For the Su-25T look for Thrust (others may be Throttle or Collective depending on plane or chopper). Choose the field in the column for your Logitech 3d controller Click Add Move your throttle slider back and forth. It should populate the Key/Button field at which time you can click OK (and OK again to exit options) and you should be set.
  10. Tough bird My chopper was hit by a SAM. Despite the amount of damage it took I was able to put it down on the ground. Still a little amazed that it was able to fly like this with one engine out.
  11. I like taking control of a SAM around a bridge and using it to get the A-10's and SU-25's playing whack-a-mole while you weave in and out and side to side and pop off a few rounds at them. Sure, if they're half decent they should be able to take care of you in short order, but some guys will waste a truck load of ammunition on you and that alone can be satisfying.
  12. Learn things that will keep you on target and alive. Learn to use the TAD properly. That is one area I am weakest and it is profoundly useful and I still haven't sat down and given it proper attention. Mind the CDU as well. I'm more confident with that, but you'll want to learn it well. Understand the countermeasure systems as well. I was sorely lacking here and didn't even realize it until recently. It has suddenly become much more effective. Don't jump to guns/rockets/bombs/missiles, even though they're naturally the most fun.
  13. Ya, I didn't mean to say it would be a 5 minute change, but there is obviously a lot of energy around pointing out imperfections and some of that could probably be a little more effectively directed.
  14. FWIW, What might cut down on 'complaints' is a public bug tracker. It would allow people to see what bugs are confirmed, needinfo, being worked on, etc. non-constructive complaining would turn into constructive bug reporting, log uploads, etc. At this point people can complain, and maybe a tester or someone at ed will ask for a track or log to look at the issue... Set up redmine or bugzilla. Considering you're moving to public betas it might be a great time to do so. Just a thought.
  15. Another one who will echo the sentiment that some of the stutters seem to go away with an SSD. Again nothing concerete to back it up, but if nothing else load times are way way better.
  16. They said it will have separate configuration. You may expect something like Saved Games\DCS Beta or something...
  17. First thing I thought when I saw that is it looks similar to the design of Fort Independence in Boston (it is definitely not the same though), looking quick I'm guessing Fort Monroe in Virginia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Monroe edit: and nevermind, I see someone already told you. /me goes back to his hole.
  18. If you set the X and Y axis to saturation y to 15 (leave saturation x at 100) with a deadzone of 2 and no curve the ministick behaves fine in the Ka-50 and probably in the Su-25T (just got the stick this weekend so spent time messing with it in yhe shark first. But yes it flies VERY fast by default in anything but the A-10C. Other than that I haven't had problems setting inputs in game and nothing has made me want to use TARGET yet.
  19. It looks like th A-10C gets ALQ-184 now too? From quick reading aircraft never carry both, but then which for what occassion. Being so top secret is there even an in game difference?
  20. I have not been able to get it run on KVM. I don't think the emulated graphics are powerful enough. It just crashes on startup for me...
  21. Cool. Thanks for the explanation. It makes a lot of sense as to where all the confusion comes from.
  22. Interesting if it's not true. I ran across the page while researching in anticipation of a warthog christmas so I can't speak from experience, but it seemed reasonable. Again, it didn't say you couldn't use them, just that they wouldn't have DX assignments. If not true, it's not true, but then it seems to be a very common misconception. "Before going any further, it is important to understand the limitations of using a controller in pure DirectX mode. When DirectX sees a controller that you've plugged in, it will recognize a maximum of 32 buttons and 8 axes on that controller. These can be 'directly' used in-game and are often automatically set to perform certain default functions, e.g. Button1 = DX1 = fire guns. You can also manually assign them in-game in the controller properties page, e.g. click on "Fire guns" and then press Button1 on your controller. But what happens if you have more than 32 buttons or 8 axes on a single controller? In that case, those 'extra' buttons/axes are not assigned DirectX names, and so from DirectX's perspective, they're not even there. However, you CAN pass keyboard assignments through those buttons/axes, provided you have some programming utility outside of the game (TARGET, Foxy, etc.) that can handle that. So, let's say you have a 33rd button on your joystick. By default, pressing this button in-game will do nothing, because DirectX doesn't see anything beyond 32 buttons. But if you've programmed that button from outside the game to represent, for example, 'G' for landing gear, now when you press that button in-game, the game simply sees 'G' and doesn't care where it came from." 23. It's not HID that is limiting, but rather DirectX. You can still use additional keys on a controller, but it won't have a DX button assignment. I think this explains it better than I ever could: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=81222 I also read a rant about TARGET merging all controllers it is used on into one giant virtual controller with potentially many more than 32 buttons/8 axis essentially 'breaking' the DX 'plug and play' style buttons. But that has little to do with what people are looking to do here, except to illustrate the point that you can have a lot more than 32 buttons on a controller.
  24. My only two cents on top of what everyone else said: If you've got labels on try it with them off. They are a performance killer. I also think being on the ground at the runway is notoriously slow, at least among my group. More so with labels on (all the more reason to learn to play without them).
