As of March 19, 2015: USAF - 23rd FS, 493rd FS, 555th FS USN/USMC - CVN-71/CVW-1 That's more than 100 operational fighter aircraft. F-14 was not designed as a dog fighter. It can do it, but there are other jets that do it much better. For some history, I recommend the book, "Boyd."

Ragnarok, we understand perfectly. A ~10 to 15 mile shot in fighters, will typically have a closure rate of 800 - 1200 kts, and if a missile is going to be fired, gives a very high Pk with very low survivability on both sides of the merge. 457FS Spads got the first US viper kill and first AIM-120 kill. It wasn't even about the jets - just the luck and the tactics. Here: Blaze, keep us posted as you learn more about radar and missile guidance, and hopefully the stuff WILL be able to contribute to making the sim more realistic!

Bix, preparing for his photo shoot... So here's the plan. Rather than do a formal class, since there are some time issues for people and with other factors in consideration, I will write up a briefing, make the tankers invincible, drop some waypoints, and leave the server up from 1600Z to 2200Z. I will be there for part of it starting at 1600, 1800 and depending on if I get more requests, 2000ish as well. Thanks for the good showing this past weekend. The Formation Fundamentals class was a success despite a technical hiccup wit the twitch.tv recording and some lag issues. Tentatively March 23 we will be holding a more advanced formation class, and the session will involve air to air refueling in the A-10C. We will be doing some group work as we did today, and will then break out into areas and send smaller teams to different parts of the map to accomplish different tasks. Navigation skills will be minimum, and system skills will be minimum. My goal is to provide a work-up to some of the basic airmanship that will be needed for basic combat related training classes later this spring. Please sign up here as in the previous session.
