  1. We still have to drop SageOT and Striker and would like 2 off of the reserve list. 2. We've got a couple guys who haven't reported in for some time and we need to replace them. I'm compiling the final roster that I'll post after I can reach a couple people, but for now can you remove VCVW-14 Striker, VCVW-14 SageOT, and 929th-Bob and give us two more off the reserve list please? Thank you!
  3. Thanks for the reply Flankerator! Gotta say though, +1 with Bushmanni and Aleman. The air-to-air aspect is already so heavily favored by the comparatively-anemic requirement of 4 air-to-ground slots and in practical terms, air-to-air success is obviously going to be the strongest determination of the team's success. The penalty for failing to intercept ground pounders, relatively helpless in a match-up with air superiority fighters, needs to represent how big a failing it really is. If a flight of A-10s can manage to get past an onslaught of fighters and take out a bunch of stuff on the ground, that's much more of an accomplishment than racking up yet another air-to-air kill. And of course, there needs to be an abundance of targets for them to hit. If they've got 18 units and they take them out in one flight, like a 4 ship of A-10s with 6x Mavs can do with spare change, they're basically out of the game before it's even half over.
  4. Evening gents, had one more question pop up.. Are we able to swap players/aircraft provided they return to base in good health (e.g., player A in an Su-25T returns to base after completing their mission and leaves the session, player B joins in an A-10)?
  5. Greetings 104th! S77th now has a full 20-man roster. Would you reserve us one of the teams pending confirmation of pilots, roles, and nationalities? I also had a couple clarifying questions if you don't mind: When will we know which 4 lone wolves we have and are they randomly assigned to every team? How does the scoring system work (i.e., how many points for what)? Is score alone the basis for choosing a winner? Does a team have the option to modify the placement or composition of their ground forces? Are Ka-50s included? Will they be afforded a FARP to spawn at? What are the rules regarding respawns, etc.? Are they different from the previous Red Flag events? Is there a deadline to have a finalized roster for all of the teams? Or when can we expect to know what we're going up against? Many of these questions you may have already been planning to answer in another briefing-type post, I just wanted to get them out there so they weren't missed. Our current list (with some extra as reserve) is as follows and will likely be refined over the next few days: I will get back to you with a more detailed list including aircraft and nationalities as requested.
  6. The only time a Typhoon would reliably dominate an F-35 is if it were able to catch that F-35 on the ground. Maneuverability, T/W ratio and all that are great, but they're not going to do anything in the areas where F-35 is at its most advantageous. Everyone loves a good dogfight ending in a guns kill, but think about how you're going to even get to that point. And as much as a maneuverability advantage as a Typhoon might have on an F-35, it's not going to out-maneuver an AIM-9X or its future variants. IF you could get in position behind an F-35 for a guns kill, hats off to you, you now have a good shot at taking it down. Outside of that, like I said, the only time you're going to be cracking F-35 skulls is when they're on the ground and you're overhead carrying some stuff that goes boom.
  7. And in 10 out of 10 realistic engagement scenarios from BVR, Typhoon has no idea an F-35 is in the area or is completely incapable of engaging it until it's too late, just like every scenario involving stealth vs. non-stealth aircraft. You can't hit what you can't see.
  8. Both the Raptor and the Lightning II would hit the Typhoon before anything showed up on his sensors.
  9. I posted in the thread on 104th's forums already, but for anyone interested in forming a coalition with S77th, hit me up! We're aiming to prepare a full 20 man roster that will work together over the next month to prepare for this event. You can reach me here or on our own forums at http://www.S77th.com.
  10. Awesome! I always thought it was peculiar that these indicators should always end up pegged to one extreme. Like if they're just gonna end up stuck at one end for most of the flight, what's the point? Can't wait to try it out!
  11. If you "won't get into early jets," then I assume you don't know how bad it really is. This isn't "seeking an unfair advantage," it's fixing a real problem. You can't see half as well since they put this painted-on texture inside the canopy and the MiG-15 is probably the hardest thing to spot in-game right now. It's a recipe for absolute misery and it wasn't like this when the Sabre was first released. This mod just reverts it to how it used to be. Also noteworthy is that the MiG-15 doesn't have nearly the same level of reflection problems. If you're flying vanilla they're guaranteed to see you long before you ever know they're there (unless of course they're contrailing).
  12. SDB was designed from the outset as a high-penetrating weapon. High precision + high penetration (i.e., get it closer to your target of interest) + low explosive content = minimal collateral damage. GBU-38 is just a GPS kit on a regular Mk-82 dumb bomb, meaning it has no added penetrating ability beyond the most run-of-the-mill bomb in the inventory today. Another damn good reason to think these are SDBs is the fact that they were dropped by an F-22. It's SDBs or 2,000 lb JDAMs, and considering the environment consists of lots of light targets spread out, sometimes in close proximity to civilians, there's basically no choice at all. You go with the SDB and you have the flexibility to hit a target next to civilians without harming them, or you can drop a bunch of them and take out a large building like we see here. No kidding dropping an inert bomb in the middle of a room would most likely kill everyone in it.. That's not the point. There's no reason at all to use inert bombs here, I've never heard of US forces dropping inert bombs on actual enemy targets ever, and this video gives no evidence that screams "inert bomb." Besides that, the idea of these strikes is to destroy the terrorists AND their equipment and an inert round would be decidedly less effective at the latter. And finally, the target here is ISIS, some of the most incredibly savage pieces of human filth on the planet. I'll wager the general consensus among the coalition forces dropping these bombs is for live rather than inert.
  13. Why on earth would they be dropping inert bombs in a warzone? To me, it seems apparent that they're SDBs. Being that they're only 250 lb bombs and this is a big building, they used four of them. The first two took out the bottom floors, the last two the top. We're so used to seeing 2,000 lb bombs in these types of "guided bomb hitting a building" videos, we don't have a good grasp on what a bomb roughly a tenth of that size should look like, especially against a large compound like this.
  14. "Very Oceany. Very cold." GIUK Gap all the way. A brilliant choice too, very well done LN! You clearly were the right people to develop this module.
  15. Why would you think that? We know it'll have a new graphics engine, we don't know much else. I have yet to hear about how a graphics engine affects EGT modeling, which is about as simple a mechanism you deal with in any of the DCS-level modules. It really doesn't take anything fancy, and as you can see with this thread, DSPALLASVI very nearly did it with simple .lua scripts. If 2.0 is so different that they can't release some Huey EGT limits now without having to redo it for EDGE, then it would seem 2.0 is so incompatible with the current content that everything would have to be completely redone. Though I admit, with EDGE being in development for so many years, that could very well be exactly what's been happening. :P Really hope BST takes care of this. I don't understand why they didn't in the first place. I know there's already some engine health modeling incorporated, just make the EGT effects work like they should!
  16. What makes you think it won't be an issue in 2.0? If they didn't see fit to implement scaling in the old engine and there's been no word about scaling in the new engine, I don't see any reason to think we won't get in 2.0 to find things look pretty cool but we still can't see them until they're right under our nose. To start with it would be productive to acknowledge that it is a problem and should be addressed. Distorting what any of us concerned people say and making the whole issue in to a joke on that basis isn't helpful, much less antagonizing anyone over it. I'm looking forward to 2.0 very much, but much more important to me than some shadows or shiny aircraft from the 50's is that the graphics reflect reality as much as possible. If "within visual range" maxes out somewhere from 10-20 miles, we shouldn't be getting half that viewing distance in the game. I mean, if it were this hard to see another aircraft in real life, VFR flying would make the risk of collision so high the only pilots doing it would have to be those with a death wish.
  17. Link doesn't seem to be working. Says the requested file does not exist.
  18. I know they were trying to do the A-4 Skyhawk, but I never heard anything about an F-4 Phantom.. I'm sure somebody will pick it up eventually. It's just too important not to.
  19. Thanks for putting this together! We S77th guys had a great time and can't wait for the next one. Also thanks to Maverick for his work in organizing and RIPTIDE for the technical stuff and the Tacview. Tried to make it myself but I was too impatient with the time acceleration and it was all screwed up. In game and out, an all-around top notch performance.
  20. That is the objective.. It's not 100% but in the heart of the flight envelope, like with a minimum radius turn, you can consider it a pretty damn reliable representation of the real deal. At the edges is where it's much more difficult.
  21. They're going to charge what they're going to charge. I'm sure it will be fair and I'm sure I'll have no qualms paying it, there's no real point in discussing it before LN says anything about it. Still I don't want to pay $100 if I don't have to, so if you people could stop getting yourselves in a frenzy, I'm sure a lot of sane DCS: F-14 buyers would appreciate it if you didn't arbitrarily drive up the price with hysteria. Though it's not like I think LN would actually listen and set their price according to it. This time would be much better spent talking about the F-14 itself and how it will fit in to DCS rather than speculating pricing points or saying how you want to spend $100+ so you can be the only guy in town with a Tomcat.
  22. My C-101 module and I would love to see your market research.
