Stop passwording every DCSW server
pbishop replied to JABO2009's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Never said that it was crap, I said I dont like it and it doesnt fit with how I play "MY" game, simply because nobody I fly with has it so there is no point of me adding it to my missions. LOL. My first time with a flight sim was a military trainer developed to simulate battlefield commander decisions and their effects on troops. I used to screw around with that as a kid. I also remember fligthsim, falcon, falcon 3 as the sims I grew up with. Jane's was what is comparable to FC today and I loved the sim. Big difference though, go back and play the campaign. Sorry, just answered that. I also got my pilot's license before I was legally allowed to drive. Yep and I added some to our missions so people who didnt own the module could join us. But FC3 I dont have and have no interest in so I cant add them and test it, and I dont play with people who have it right now. Do you have a server we should know about that catered to these people? My attitude is just fine. I am sick of people telling me what to do with my time, resources, and my money. You have not done anything as far as I can tell to fix the situation but yet you come here and tell all of us what you "feel" we should be doing. Guess what, the internet doesnt care. Run your own server the way you want and get away from this thread. You are not going to change anything here, and you certainly are not making any new friends. I never said they werent, and what I gave was constructive. I gave the problem and a possible solution. You just either praise the flaws or do nothing to correct them. You have done nothing but criticise me here, and tell me what to do with my resources, you sir no longer get my attention. My attitude is this, you have no right to say anything about locked servers unless you have one. -
New motherboard multimonitor support?
pbishop replied to Wedge's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If this is an intel system with integrated intel gpu I highly doubt it will work. I am pretty sure you are running an amd system right now with ati built in gpu. Nothing is stopping you from plugging your +1 in the 6970's if you have 2 cards. Just dont include it in your eyefinity group. I am basing my hunch on your new mobo off the manual though, which at first glance does not indicate it is possible. Check for yourself here: http://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/mb_manual_ga-z77x-ud3h_e.pdf Also, I dont think you gain much from using your +1 on the onboard card. Resources are shared, and you have 2 beast cards that are more than capable of taking the load. -

We have no VFW, we are just a small group of buddies that enjoy the same type of experience from our flight sims. We dont even have a name for ourselves, but my better half calls us names when we make too much noise (they are not appropriate here though). -

Only because you asked. To do anything in the mission editor [although improved] is very difficult, which does 2 things. First, it discourages those that get intimidated by it from using it and second it takes forever to accomplish anything you want in when you finally learn it. I am very familiar with the arma 2 editor, the falcon TE, and modding of various other games; however, this editor is by far the hardest to learn and implement to get it to do what you want. Even when you know what you are doing, it is very difficult to obtain the results you want and usually just settle for what you get. I have no experience with FC series, I only own the DCS series [except p51], and the campaign is not very interesting or replayable. There is no satisfaction or apparent effect of your efforts. They do not come with MP compatibility [which is kinda rediculous regardless of how easy it is to change]. Comparing DCS to most other games, the campaign feels empty. Best example is that most the campaign missions I played in DCS-a10 were completed by allied aircraft before I even took off, I dont remember what version but it was still a very dissapointing experience and boring. Yeah, and most missions that were not updated to support the new patch got left behind. And like I said, the mission maker's effort is more than appreciated, however, there are too few and too little. And I know of no other game that ships and says here is a plane make your own experience. At least certainly not for the cost of this series. There is not enough content to satisfy a community at the moment, regardless of the efforts made here. Its not that I dont understand, that is my problem. Without any backbone there is too little to build the community on. I mean the briefing screen and UI is poorly designed, you cant join as a part of the same flight. You can only assign AI as wingmen. There is way too much coding to be done to get the AI to feel real. Ends of missions are empty, when they work. No online logbook. Mission editor has all the missing elements to make bigger and more creative scenarios that are DYNAMIC (without way too much effort), etc.... All these things break the game where it is critical to have strength. If the core of the game or building blocks to designing missions is weak, you can not expect the results to be great. A new house built on a broken foundation is still a broken house. I agree it has improved, but it is still very sub-par compared to other games with the same features. Its not by getting more people satisfied with the basic plane in the box that community grows. Regardless of where you stand, the divide is already apparent as the FC crowd are not used to the locked servers and the DCS crowd have never complained about it in the past. The community is broken because there is nothing worth playing together. Missions that are usually fun for the DCS people need to be locked or the mission is ruined by JIPs, thats the types of missions I play. So if there was a dynamic campaign where all these fancy planes could be used, without having to code for years, would this not better the community? Or have missions where there is no effect by JIPs, or the success is not ruined by having someone leave in the middle of the flight. And not everyone like you has/plays Flaming cliffs. I dont own the series and neither do any of the people I play with. We enjoy high fidelity models, so yeah, I guess thats my choice right? I still dont believe FC3 has any buisness in the DCS world. DCS is a highly accurate simulator. Does not mean my opinion cant change with new missions etc... We will see what the "community" does to fix that. There is no rethinking needed. I am not a bad guy like you want to make me out to be. Anyone who has shown up in my TS to play has had the red mat rolled out to them. I have also gone on other clan's TS to invite them to my server. Just by looking at the number of empty public servers, this should tell you something, and it has nothing to do with the locked servers. Even if I make my server public and lock it for events, it will remain empty until an event rolls around. So guys like you should leave guys like me alone, I have done nothing to anyone here and you dont know me, so you cant say "guys like [me]". -

Where did I say otherwise or even insult him? I am not debating what people have/have not done here. Just went to check the servers, where has it grown? They are still mostly playing the same missions as yesterday/last week/last month/even last year. Yeah because DCS online campaign exists and those that made the most interesting dynamic campaign are not gifted? I never belittled those that actually help the community. I am posting here because I do care. You however just dont want to listen to what I think the online community is missing, and it has nothing to do with locked servers. So if you want to continue down a path with no end or point then be my guest. I am giving real issues that hinder and also stop this game from becoming great online or increasing the numbers. Unlocking servers will do nothing to help the community, only by increasing the quality of the actual game will you accomplish anything. And that is my point. This thread is useless as all it does is blame those in the community that want to enjoy the game a certain way for DCS failing online. When are you going to stop and think about that before telling me to move on. I have heard nothing of use from you so far that will help in any way to solve this problem, so why are you telling me to shove off? EDIT: I am also going to stop responding to this thread, as it should have been locked/closed a long time ago. I just dont see how the community benefits for blaming the poor online content on the group that lock their servers. This thread is in poor taste, does not accomplish anything, is insulting to those that wish to play with their friends alone, and is a false hope to anyone who thinks it will solve anything. -

Well good luck with that flawed logic. Falcon has absolutely no server browser and no way of connecting to online games without knowing the IP and password, how has that community not only stayed alive but even grown? You are free to your opinion, but until you or anyone else here addresses the issues and attempts solutions to them I consider this whole thread nothing more than a failed attempt to troll people who lock their servers. EDIT: And for the record, this community is small because DCS has a sh&*tty mission editor, no campaign worth playing, no missions with the game or on these forums in a quantity to suffice a years worth of play, it just lacks content. All we get out of the box is the planes, nothing more. Might that be what keeps this community small? I know its what stops me from playing for months at a time. Oh yeah, that has nothing to do with it. Its when I do actually decide to play I lock my server to play with my buddies, right? I stop playing because I lock my server, not because DCS is an empty shell. (Dont read this the wrong way, I love the sim and planes, but the fact it lacks so much in terms of campaign and replayability with little fuss destroys it for me). If this game cant stand on its own, there is nothing servers opened or closed is going to change. -
I'll wave on my way to concordia tomorrow.

You seem to be missing the point. I am all for helping out the "community", however, you should be made aware that I have not seen anything else in this thread other than "unlock" those locked servers. -

None of what you say should prevent any of the pw server owners to change the way THEY want to play for anyone that does not want to host their own server. So either come up with suggestions to improve the community without chosing for "US" how or who to play with and you may have my attention. I did not start by playing with anyone from the "community" here. I play the game for what it is worth and have met people along the way I play with. If there is a problem, its not with the pw servers, but with how public games are run or how "easy" it is to get missions going on them. So the public servers should be criticized and not the pw ones, because after all, they are the ones that are failing by the comments in this thread. How about this, dont tell anyone where or who to play with, you might get a bit more respect. I'll tell you what, try and find solutions to solve why they are failing without scapegoating a group that have successful servers and I might help you out. I too appologize for sounding like and A star star. -

The arguments here have nothing to do with that. People here are telling people who run servers for either their clans or buddies what to do. For your argument to be true, there should be no talk of what server owners are doing now and more about what they [the people complaining] are going to do to correct it. Singling out people that want to play with their buddies without taking any responsibility or action is just rediculous. -

When I run my server its for me and my buddies, you have a problem with that host your own. Jesus, this is rediculous. You dont like how things are and want to change it, dont complain how people use their resources and use your own to do what you want. -
Not giving money to companies that are named UBI, EA, and Activision is a long standing goal I have. I want them to stop and think there is no demand for any type of game, maybe that way other companies will stop thinking its alright to produce incomplete crap and sell their products as such. I have no idea what producers are thinking these days, and I have less of an idea as why consumers continue to support them by throwing money at unusable garbage. Maybe, just maybe if we all stop buying unfinished products, producers will get a hint. Here's a list of some crap that made millions without being finished at release or even ever: Diablo 3: Huge server issues and errors for the first month of release. BF3: Huge server/lag/login/play/ctd/hacking/etc. Cliffs of Dover: Lag/performance/nothing really new, just nicer graphics. Whirlwind over vietnam: Major issues on release, company just dissappears. Microsoft Flight: No clue as to what the majority of the simers want. (I mean who thought people who really dont like sims would start because its just easy mode. Did they really think they were going to steal the COD crowd?) Janes: "Hey, lets take a great title from the sim community and turn it into garbage", "Sounds good Jim" COD Series: This is a mystery to me, I dont own the games, but apparently its just recycled crap from the other games. Yet the line up at release day is rediculous. Mass Effect 3: Not going to even start, for anyone that played it, I pity you. So millions of dollars for crap? This makes sense only if I use your argument to say that the companies see a demand for unfinished or poorly designed crap. I know most of these dont appeal to everyone here, but it does describe the market and where the money is that they (the developers) want. Rant over.

Shoot, ignore this, didnt realize there was 2 other pages of posts. Sorry guys.

I'll try and give this a go this weekend, let you know how it goes.

This problem happened to me aswell a few times. It seems if I switch back and run DCS A10 multiplayer and play and then try DCSW this problem will occur. Simply removing my password so it gives me an error and then retyping it seems to solve the problem (on my end). My problem will cease to exist once DCSW is fully implemented I think. But for others having a similar issue and dont have another account, this seems to work well, at least for me. I dont know if this helps at all, but I thought I would shed insight on my experiences with the same problem. Crash right after hitting login and before servers are pulled up. Only happens on occaision, but always after running DCS-a10.

How do we communicate with each other?
pbishop replied to Svend_Dellepude's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
This you may not know, but IVC is actually TS3. No joke. As for the rest, the demand is obviously there. I see no harm in showing that there is one (I'm talking about TARS here, just to specify, not in game VOIP). Especially when it is already proven to work, and has no impact on performance or resources. This will be by far less appealing to those that play single player, or in public un-organised games. -
How do we communicate with each other?
pbishop replied to Svend_Dellepude's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
For those of you against any sort of radio comm implementation, I think the original idea is not to have a built in voip but a radio of the same sort found in the A10. This seems like a very simple thing to do (although I can be mistaken) because you cannot actually talk over the radios. The only thing this enables is programs like TS to communicate with DCS and add more options and realism without the hassle of creating multiple channels for each flight. Ex. How TARS works. It still requires TS, same server load, etc.... The only difference is that within the game you can set the frequencies on which you communicate (ie. freq of the "\" key). Even without a modelled radio, there should be some way that ED could implement a simple way of changing frequencies and radio, at least so that for us that do want the added realism and exceptional mods like TARS to work, can use them. I dont think that any very complicated performance issues such as mumble and pr are relevant here, as I have yet to experience anything similar with DCS and TARS. As for not being in 1.0, I can understand ED have a big load on their shoulders with all of their up coming additions. Take your time, but I can say that if this system found its way into a patch shortly after, it would make a lot of people happy. -
I support this idea.
