I just got this module not long ago and did a search for something along these lines here, just wanted to say that the vibrations in game (the whole instrument panel shaking liking it was having a seizure) would lead me to ground that aircraft. I think there is a very exaggerated display when the chopper starts to shake, especially when you notice its only the instrument panel that is shaking independently of the chopper itself, something feels/looks/seems wrong. Just wondering if this is going to be adjusted in the future, thanks.

Just a quick update, servers are back up and activation should work now.

I am trying to re-activate a10 and uh1, starforce servers are down. I guess they should be back up tomorrow. Good luck.

Like I said, it looks good :helpsmilie:

For those that have played and completed the mission, how have you managed to deal with the tanker? Mission looks like a lot of fun, however we keep having the same problem as above. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Out of intrest, which country operated this type of Huey
pbishop replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Very true, lost in my thoughts. Thanks for correcting that, I will edit my post with the correction. I had to edit this post as well and laugh as I have the model and the tag under it sitting on my desk. -
Out of intrest, which country operated this type of Huey
pbishop replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS: UH-1H
The H and D model are essentially the same on the exterior and air-frame, that being said.... Here we will try to explain the confusion with the configs and exhaust. The exhaust was originally not a stock part of the aircraft. It was added later on a very small portion of the total number of D/H's ever produced (mostly US aircraft, but has made its way to other countries on some aircraft) to hide the IR signature from the exhaust. Almost all D/H's have or had the straight exhaust. It was never designed as a part of the original exhaust, and foreign sales did not have this attached (originally). But, almost all american army D's and H's were equipped with it at one point or another. As for the weapons config, the US, Australia, and S.Vietnamese used this type of config. There was at an earlier point in time, a vast selection of configurations that could be mounted to the Huey, mostly the B and C variant and later the E, but the D and H were equally capable. In history they probably carried a vast assortment of loadouts, but today, not many countries use this noisy and slow bird as a gunship (A,B,C,D,H,E etc..). Hardly any D/H model ever carried anything that resembled that after the Vietnam war, regardless of country. N models (twin huey) and newer Y and 412EP (Canada's Version) were never built to carry the older types of armaments as seen in DCS-Huey. I don't know of any country that still uses this configuration on the old and outdated D/H models. So the one in game does not openly or commonly exist in that form other than as a slick. As for the comments on the Canadian 212 (or better known ch-135 twin huey), the 212 is the N model. The newer Ch-146 Griffon is a heavily upgraded version of the 412, the 412EP. It really isn't the same aircraft. The Huey family tree is a complicated one, but its universal capabilities are unmatched -
EDIT, NVM, misread.

pbishop replied to Warmbrak's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Same here, no problems with TS, winamp, Helios, freetrack, etc.... I even send/receive my emails while in game. So my original thought when I read this was.... did you contact the developers of that specific program made for FSX? -
It is very easy to compare win 8 and win 7. I always use MSFlight and MS FSX as an example. Win 8 runs slightly better but is over simplified and hardly customizable. MS FSX is highly customizable but runs a bit crappier until you tweak it, win 7. They were also developed with the same "type" of customer in mind. Not to take away from new and interesting features in win 8, but i can do without them knowing that I can actually get my work done quicker in win 7. Then after I am done its off to the races in Faucon or DCS, in which there is no FPS difference between win 7 and 8. Also without a SSD, there is hardly a noticeable difference in load times between 7 and 8, only a few seconds faster for 8. (Comparing 2 clean installs, not a bogged down win 7 dating 2 years and filled with crap loading on start) Its all about preference in my case as both are almost the same on my system (performance wise).

I meant no offense either, but it is important that people reading this know that the drag coefficient is not related to thrust but rather the speed of the blades. Now if I understand the question properly, the best way to explain it would be to imagine the rotors as wings spining from some fixed point. Any changes you make to a wing should in theory have the same effect on the rotor blade (in simplistic scenario) or vs versa. So therefore, adding heat under a wing does not have any effect nor would it affect a rotor blade. The only thing pointing the exhaust at rotor blades does is reduce the aircrafts heat signature. When we fly gliders, and sometimes planes, thermals are a good way to increase altitude. The difference between thermals and the exhaust are many. But the main one that we need for this example is mass air flow. When thermals occur, they create an upward airflow effectively changing the buoyancy of the aircraft (based on bernoulli) if the amount of air pushing upwards is great enough to have an effect. Now if we apply this to helicopters, the air the rotors would need to produce the same effect would have to cover the entire area the rotors travel in. They would also require that enough air be able to pass through the path of the rotor downwash undisturbed to have any effect (which is not exactly accurate, but it serves the purpose here). Because of the small area of the exhaust, it would only change one small area of the blades and not the entire path of the blades, which in comparison is negligeable. It would be like putting a puddle under a boat expecting it to float. But thats not all, because the airflow from the downwash created by the rotors is much greater than the exhaust, it effectively destroys it before it reaches the rotors. It therefore has no notable effect on lift or drag created by the rotors themselves, only the airflow around the helicopter, which is also negligeable (in terms of lift and drag of the rotors). There simply is not enough mass airflow from the exhaust to have any effect on the rotors. Now all this wasnt very scientific (and some parts were even simplified to server the purposes here), but it should give a general idea. There are so many things that effect helicopter flight that it is almost impossible to explain every little detail. As far as creating thrust, thermal differences like balloons change buoyancy and do not create thrust. Therefore, the idea that pointing hot air up like a balloon would only work if my (very general) explination for thermals above is satisfied. Thermal differences in the surroundings of an aircraft do not create, nor are they ever defined as thrust. On a side note, it is important to note that drag and lift are not the same as drag and lift coefficients, even if they are related. In the case of a helicopter falling like a parachute, it is not the drag, but the lift that allows it to stay afloat. I hope this explains something.

If you go to tom's hardware, they did a review for gaming cpu's for november 2012 that is a good guide in purchasing. It also explains everything in pretty good detail as to the differences between most of them. I dont know if its ok to post the link, but I'm sure someone will notify me if its not ok. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html The site is a bit weird, but there is a next button to go to the next page.

Where is this comming from? Why did you post something you have no idea about? Cd values for rotor blades are lower than some airfoils for airplanes. Why, just why?

Threads like these make me feel old. Except I had a black and orange screen, color wasn't mainstream yet.

Need advice about learning C++
pbishop replied to JG14_Smil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you are really just starting out, this website (http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/c++-tutorial.html) is a good reference and basic tutorials to get you on your way. I took courses in university for c++, but learning html, xml, php, c#, sql and vb I did by following similar guides. However, there is only so far these can go. I would suggest following some tutorials and then maybe investing in a good book on the subject, or library. The books used in university courses are usually available, and seeing how university (especially where I went) is chose your own adventure, you should be able to teach yourself. At least that is mostly how I learnt anything. -

Before this thread de-rails again, how about you increase that small percentage by +1. Only then will you have done your part in solving what you see as a problem. Creating this thread was a mistake, you could have and should have made your own server. Now before any other responses are made, let this thread die. I feel as I have made enough new enemies to last me a year and I think we can all agree nothing good is going to come from keeping this conversation going. -

pbishop replied to JABO2009's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
The divide is simple. There are so many ways this game can be played, and for any part of it to succeed will require that threads like these never get created in the first place. We are all responsible for what we make of this game and how we want to play it, to not respect or question someones preference is not a road the "small" community will grow with. If there is something you dont like, start by changing yourself before attempting to change others. That is what we should all walk away from this conversation with. -

I did not say I never want to. Try and grasp my point of view. I have and will continue to say, help me solve the problem with idiots and I will more than gladly help you out. And I am sure everyone else will too if you can make a reasonable argument for doing so. My initial response was to this: Which is probably why you still dont get why I have taken this thread as an insult (with the title) incase you didnt read it. Which is probably what you didnt do. Because you quoted my response to that and said this to me: -

Re-read what you wrote there for a minute. Who wants something here? I have said that I want to help in almost all of my posts. Would it be fair to you if I made a thread that reads "Stop not hosting servers" and look down on you regardless of your reasons for not hosting one? I would be far more happy if I could unlock my server, but that cant happen until my concerns are met with a clear mind and a willingness to contribute to solving any problems I may have in doing so. Blaming a group in the community for the short commings or even hinting or drawing attention to them is not helping the community any more than you like me at this moment. My intentions are good, but like many others I am sure of, your request or comments have not brought a sentiment of willing to open up as you say. At the very beggining (when I started to play this game) I had my server unlocked, but you dont care that I had opened up and that my time playing this game was ruined on so many occasions. You only want your point to be heard, which it has been, but open your eyes and see the other side, neither of us gain anything from you continuing to argue against my "attitude", which I only have because I find this thread a bit insulting and damaging from everything starting with the title to your last post, regardless of the intentions behind it. Read the title, that is not a suggestion. It plain and simply reads as an order. Regardless of the OP. What I dont understand, and fuels my "attitude" you dont like, is how you think its alright to say I expect anything or dont contribute anything here when I have not asked for anything and shared thoughts and ideas with good intention. My attitude comes from your response, not the basic idea you started with. You still dont want to address the issues, you just want to keep at my frustration, which every response like the one above fuels. -

Stop passwording every DCSW server
pbishop replied to JABO2009's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Let me recap here for you: What they say: 1. They are saying that locked servers are destroying the online community. 2. That we should unlock our servers to "help" out. Here is what I have been saying: 1. I would, but my concerns are just as valid as theirs. 2. I am willing to help if they address the problems that make public servers problematic. 3. Missions that requires locks cannot be unlocked or my time is ruined. And what you quote is my response to this attitude: Unlock your server, I am not going to do anything to help even if you keep repeating your concerns. So any of you want this as a real solution, then listen to the concerns and do something to correct the concerns and reasons that locked servers exist in the first place. It is very frustrating to be told what to do by a group of people who are doing nothing else but complain. Other than my posts, and those about idiots or concerned server owners, the unlock your server side has had no real solutions or suggestions worth comment here. Not even a consideration for any of it. Is that fair? -

pbishop replied to JABO2009's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
If it was not broken, would you be here? And I have been saying since the first time I posted here, put your efforts in finding how to make the online servers more interesting and you will have my attention. You have only said unlock the servers, which is rediculous and wont solve anything. When you realise that this is not the solution and want to discuss how we can really better this aspect of the game, give me a call. Until then I will take your advice, as I do not need to listen to any of this. I have tried to explain things from the locked server aspect of things to find a solution, it has fallen on deaf ears. I will lock myself away and continue playing with my buddies and inviting those that want to play with me. I'll just keep it locked though basically to not have my very little time available to enjoy myself destroyed by some idiot who joins. I also dont expect many other locked servers to help you out here either. -
After restarting a mission with the new patch the screen does not turn on. The countermeasures work and the screens below the UFC work, but the lower right one remains blank. Playing the mission the first time it works fine. The second time it is started I have no screen. Replaying the track file it is working fine. I have not seen this metioned anywhere, but thought I would bring it up and know if there are any fixes or if this is known about?
