How do I change the paint scheme. Didn't see any options in mission planner - i'm in a campaign mission
-
Confused as to why you took my response as in the negative - seriously. The quote in your reply was from someone else and I thought you mis-posted to the wrong thread. Absolutely I'll try it.

I landed next to the target to get the elevation and did some rough math with the measured distance blah blah - and yes if i set the evelation data to 0 - i get a point where shkval uncage positions itself - within 5 meters. Well this bug is not that elusive - happens everytime on that training mission and some others. I'm playing the first campaign and happens there also. Is there something I can do - load another map? Because as is - the datalink target info received is useless.
-
Ummm...was that solution for my problem also?
-
I'm still having this problem when I start my campaign - intermittently - sometimes takes 4+ tries before it works. I cleared my temp\dcs and logs folder. Attached is the contents of the logs folder on crash. Logs.zip

Thanks for testing. I see this in at least a mission - this makes it very difficult because in real missions there's terrain and trees and makes finding the DL target almost impossible.
-
air.
-
No that's fine - at least on the shkval it's on the target - on the abris the yellow box is set incorrectly but after I re-lock it's set correctly. Here's the track file of the original problem. datalink-target.trk

I'm in the instant action SHOOTING RANGE mission. Send out the wingman on a recon - he comes back with 4-5 targets. I save it and RESET. I then select one of he air defense targets, press data link and then uncage. If I have auto-turn enabled - the aircraft turns. The shkval target marker is on an empty field. But the schval view on the ABRIS is short of the actual marked target. If I now slew the shkval straight up - i find the target and lock it. Now the distance to this target matches the one that was on the hud when I initially uncaged - so it's the right target. If you can do this easily reproducable steps and get the shkval to position right over the target - then I must be still doing something wrong. Now curiously - if I receive the DL info and fly to the other side of the target and then uncage the shkval to the said DL target - the shkval is now positioned on the other side of the target - I have to slew down to find the target.
-
yup did that. the aircraft turns towards the target - but the schwal is not over the target. but if i slew straight up - i find it. again this is on the practice target range - so no terrain. also since I received the DL target - i haven't moved - in a hover. it's like the DL target marker is lined up across the lateral axis but not the vertical axis.
-
I sent wingman for recon and saved the data to abris. I selected one target (saw it flashing) and uncaged the schwal - had auto turn on and the aircraft turns - but there's no target at the point. If I slew straight up - then I find it. This is in quick action TARGET RANGE mission - so nothing fancy going on.

I believe you communicate with the ground crew on intercom. What mission/campaign does this happen on and what freq do you have on the radio? Try the instant mission - weapons range (last one i think) - works?
-
Here's the log file - the uploader doesn't accept .log files for some reason..renamed it .txt There's also crash and dump files - not sure whether they're helpful. dcs.txt

When I open a campaign mission - sometimes it crashes and then works after 3-4 retries. When I open BS in training or other missions - works fine. So I'm thinking something wrong with the campaign mission cache - as i wrote it does open it eventually. Any help?

Datalink training mission comm problems
erjdriver replied to erjdriver's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
just review this thread - the solution is there. -
1. I understand this - need to hold the pitch steady before release trimmer. 2. Not sure about this - I understand translational lift and see that there'll be an increase in the rate of climb - but pitch up? I'm talking about pitching up 15-20 deg where I want. Isn't the gain in lift equal (or close to equal) thru out the blade area. On further testing and input from users - I think I found the main reason for the major pitch up I was experiencing. Users have told me that normally the AP will maintain pitch mode unless in route mode - in which case speed is maintained (or attempted) As I was accelerating after t/o - I used to enable route mode. As I did this soon after t/o and accelerating - the AP was trying to maintain the speed - ergo the major pitch up. So now, as I accelerate and climbing - I do NOT enable route mode - fly manually and try to set the trimmer at -5 - and it stays close to that. Once I've leveled off and achieved my route speed, I enable route mode and then release the trimmer - and that sets the speed and pitch close to where I released it. Hope this helps the next poor soul.

Another one about the trimmer and autopilot

So flying with the AP channels on and... Pressing and holding the trimmer is the same as flying in FD mode - aside from the HUD symbology in FD mode. So if I'm in FD mode, there's really no need to press the trimmer, do a maneuver (e.g. change heading) and then release trimmer. I can just do the maneuver and the press/release the trimmer. If the above is the case, then I can see where in combat scenario enabling FD mode is beneficial and a good compromise. You're not fighting the AP and also have stabilization/damping effects. -

Fish Isn't flying with the 3 auto-pilot channels ON and NOT in route or hover mode - flying manually (i.e. active AP off - it's helping up to 20%). In the above scenario what's the difference with having FD off or on besides the HUD symbology. -

Sure - but why not hold the trimmer down (that disables all the channels) - do what you need to do and then release the trimmer. Seems much more efficient - but to each his own. -

What does flying with "AP OFF" or "AP ON" mean. I understand, if you're in route or hover mode - AP is working actively. If both those modes are off - then AP is just assisting you up to a certain limit - but you're flying manually. When you say fly with "AP OFF" - do you mean turning all the channels off also? -
ok - then makes sense. I was using thinking that the AP would maintain pitch - but it maintains speed you say. I was setting the trim right after t/o as i was accelerating...so makes sense that if i've set the trim at 50 and accelerating - it'll immediately pitch up to maintain 50. Thanks.

I sent a target to wingman and then told him to attack - but he says 'unable' or 'negative'. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a scaredey-cat wingman. When I press the datalink send/mem - the light doesn't blink - so i assume it's received. Do i need to uncage the shkval after sending? I didn't save it on the abris - i locked on a target with shkval and sent via datalink.

Still having some issues/misunderstanding with this. 1. On t/o, i pitch down around -10, release the trimmer and then center the joystick - shouldn't the aircraft hold that pitch? it doesn't - pitches up 4-5. 2. does the auto-pilot ever "move" the collective by itself - e.g. when maintaining altitude. 3. if I have the switch on the right panel set to "RA" (as opposed to altimeter) - and am 100 RA when i release the trimmer (and have ALT HOLD off) - shouldn't the autopilot maintain 100 RA over varying terrain? Getting back to #2 - does it adjust the collective as needed.
