  1. I was asking the same thing... for my skin which I named Buff in the dds files I also initially used the bare metal description.lua file and got the same missing texture yellow. What I did was eventually edited the .lua file like so (this is not the whole file but a shortened version): {"P51D_FUZ_FRONT", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Buff_Fuz_Front",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_REAR", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Buff_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_WING_L", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Buff_L_Wing",false}; {"P51D_WING_R", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Buff_R_Wing",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_FRONT", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Buff_Fuz_Front",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_REAR", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Buff_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_WING_L", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Buff_L_Wing",false}; {"P51D_WING_R", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Buff_R_Wing",false}; {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; -- òàêòè÷åñêèé íîìåð, îäíîðàçðÿäíûé. íîìåð ñàìîëåòà â ãðóïïå. äëÿ êàíàäñêîãî ñêèíà {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; -- ðàñïîëîæåíèå. íà áîðòó ñàìîëåòà â ðàéîíå êîçûðüêà îñòåêëåíèÿ ôîíàðÿ {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", DECAL ,"empty",true};-------------> -------> {"P51D_SERIAL_NUMBER_R_100", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Buff_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_SERIAL_NUMBER_R_100", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Buff_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_SERIAL_NUMBER_R_100", DECAL ,"empty",true}; {"pilot_P51_patch", 0 ,"empty",true}; -- øåâðîí íà êîìáèíåçîíå ëåò÷èêà } name = "Buffalo Soldier" countries = {"USA", "RUS", "FRA", "UKR", "SPN", "NETH", "TUR", "BEL", "GER", "NOR", "CAN", "DEN", "UK", "GRG", "ISR", "ABH", "RSO"} ....... I think I may have figured out a workaround although I have not put this to the test yet. I am gong to make a generic P-51 .lua file naming everything something like p51D_DIF_p-51_Fuz_Front .. and just change the description name at the end to whatever the skin is going to be called. I think as long as the description name matches the name on the folder in which the textures can be found and the texture names inside that folder match the texture names in the .lua file it should work... I think once the sim goes to look for the textures it uses the .lua file as a reference that is why initially when I used the Bare Metal .lua file I had two Bare Metal references in the editor window but as I said I am not sure yet. Maybe someone can try this and see if it works. Thanks Robo that is exactly the information I was looking for .. I can't seem to get the model viewer though... Itasks for a username & pw and when I enter mine it does not accept it.. I'll try again over the weekend..
  2. Thanks FD... I see you are from Yonkers.. I lived in The Bronx till 2000 .... used to go to Yonkers often.. my ex wife & kids lived there.. and I had a later sweetheart that lived up there too..
  3. Lol... 65 looks .. no comments.. is it that bad? LOL
  4. All things considered ... you know this had to be the first one right? :megalol: Thanks to everyone in this thread by FDNY that pointed me in the right direction to see just what the heck I was doing.. I had to get adventuresome... At first I kept getting thee missing texture things on the AC.. I took the description.lua file from the Bare metal skin and added it to my skin.. Needless to say that didn't work well.. I couldn't figure out how to edit the description.lua file at first but then I decided to try notepad.. and at first that threw me off because notepad never showed up as an option when I right clicked it and looked for Open With.. anyway I just hit open and selected notepad.. and there it was.. I went all the way down to the bottom.. and changed the description to Buffalo Soldier.. went back in the sim and ... big yellow still .. then I took a closer look at the .lua file and saw 38 entries that still said "Silver" in the text .. {"P51D_FUZ_FRONT", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_REAR", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_WING_L", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_L_Wing",false}; {"P51D_WING_R", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_R_Wing",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_FRONT", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; {"P51D_FUZ_REAR", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_Fuz_Rear",false}; {"P51D_WING_L", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_L_Wing",false}; {"P51D_WING_R", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_R_Wing",false}; {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", 0 ,"p51D_DIF_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; -- òàêòè÷åñêèé íîìåð, îäíîðàçðÿäíûé. íîìåð ñàìîëåòà â ãðóïïå. äëÿ êàíàäñêîãî ñêèíà {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", 2 ,"p51D_SPEC_Silver_Fuz_Front",false}; -- ðàñïîëîæåíèå. íà áîðòó ñàìîëåòà â ðàéîíå êîçûðüêà îñòåêëåíèÿ ôîíàðÿ {"P51D_BORT_NUMBER_COCPIT_01", DECAL ,"empty",true}; .... and a LOT more.. so I changed all of them to the name I used for my texture files and BAM! .. there it was. This skin is an ongoing WIP and I see I am going to have to do some editing.. I think I need to unify the red textures between the tail & the nose.. I used the rear fuselage from the Redtail skin that came with the sim.. until I make my own full layers.. I also had to modify the wheel well covers to get rid of the red. In a few days I will totally redo this .. but I had to do my ride.. Another question though... a few actually.. 1-The spec layers.. I gather those layers remove some of the glare or highlight the areas of the skin where they are highlighted? I noticed that in the stock Redtail skin the nose markings (which are of the 100th by the way not the 302nd) where tyhe chevron extended from the nose to the rear.. and the red tails as well were highlighted in the spec layers and you can see the difference fron thsi screenshot between the red on the nose that has the bare metal spec layer.. and the red on the tail.. Am I in the ball park with that? The first skin I ever made that used a spec layer was the one in my sig which actually came from WoP .. as most of you know IL2 skins are not that complicated in that respect. 2-Editing the description.lua file... Will I have to do that for every skin? Edit all 38 references to the skin I made? There are some skins in myh liveries folder that do not even show up in the payload screen and I suspect it is because the description.lua files are not right.. Is there a one line solution to that to make it look for the textures in a specific folder regardless to what they (the dds files) are named?
  5. Like this? C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Bazar\Liveries\P-51D\Buffalo Soldier I did that ... Contents: I think it's right.. but my question is and it's cracking me up/driving me nuts that everyone keeps missing it.. is ... How do I select the skin once I am inside the sim? Maybe I am just having a Stevie Wonder moment but I just do not see a button or a slot or a drop down menu anywhere where I can select or change a skin for my AC.. Can I change it from any menu.. as in instant, campaign , etc or do I have to be in a specific type of misson to do this? All I see is the silver bare metal skin. To even test the front of the plane which was the most problematic for me to make as far as work going into it I had to rename it and drop it into the Bare Metal folder in order to see it to make sure that I had the nose art and nose markings right.. shall await the answers of those less ignorant on the issue than myself ...
  6. Anybody? Beuller? Beuuller?
  7. So again.. How do you view the skin? Is there a certain mission folder? Someone posted something about using ALT + to open up a load out screen.. but that does not show up anywhere.. is this from a quick mission? A full mission? Online only? I just finished my personal skin.. the one in my sig.. and i want to see how it looks but I cannot find how .. using the search function has drawn a blank .. it brought me here.. and so far I have seen no answers here to just how to do what the OP is asking.. Edit the description.lua file.. how? I don't see a " open with " when I right click it like in most odd files..
  8. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of FFB implementation .. I use a MSFFB2 stick.. I have for over 10 years and it is all I have so without the FFB it is just limp.. I never did get into the gunshake and all that but the lack of any stick force whatsoever is very problematic for me.. However... I have no doubt that that will be worked out eventually ..
  9. My mind never needed to be changed... I have been into airplanes and such for most of my life.. I just never flew.. I worked on A-7s in the Nave for a short spell.. the first one that I remember grabbing me was my older cousin's Cox P-40.. and Sky King I was hooked from then on. I have been simming for over 15 years and got into the genre full tilt in 2001 where I hooked up with the 332nd in CFS. One thing I have discovered over the years is that while I like all the stuff that flies.. my sweet spot is the WWII birds. Jets and avionics just don't move me like the props .. and even the WWI birds.. while I like them (I used to make the balsa planes too as a kid) they don't move me like the 36-46 stuff.. and the Mustang has always been a favorite of mine so for me this P-51 sucked me into DCS. I have BS & LO.. (Never got FC, FC2 or BS2 or the A-10) but they just never floated my boat like the vintage birds and over the past 6 years or so my time has become scarce so I do most of my simming with the guys in my squad. This may drag them over here.. especially our XO who is a Mustang lover.
  10. They would use most of the fuselage tank.. at least a third to half of it then go to the externals then each wing gradually for balance. There was no gauge for the externalsyou had to calculate by time/distance or wait till your engine started to tell you from what I have been told and have read.
  11. WoP is what it is. IMO it s more than just a flying game... but from what I have seen so far .. just by looking at the inputs alone.. in terms of options and realism there isn't much to compare with DCS.. not even CoD .. because CoD does not yet have a Cadillac :smilewink:!! WoP is not bad.. visually it is not bad at all.. but both CoD & DCS offer up equally and in most ways superior visual fare .. WoP runs great on my rig... and it is enjoyable to a point but IMO the developers shot themselves in the foot with no mission builder and the wonky way that you use skins.. any skin you use shows up on all the planes of the same type in the sim.. and don't get me started on that ridonkulous YP system.. but all in all it can be enjoyable if you (a genric you not directed at anyone in particular) look at it.. but it is hard to do if your nose is up n the air... It is better than IL2 in some ways, not so in most others and the only reason I mention IL2 is because it is still despite all this great kit here .. and on the horizon, at this juncture, pound for pound the overall best WWII combat sim on the market and I would bet the yardstick by which most sims will be measured to some degree or another for quite some time. Back to WoP vs DCS By sheer virtue of options alone (as far as controls for the AC) DCS blows WoP out of the water.. Then look at the fact that this has a decent online component, the skinning aspect, the mission building aspect and the wide open nature of it as far as potential goes.. and it is a no brainer. I think that if 1C drops the ball with this whole thing they are doing with CoD and DCS takes this ball and even if they add a few more players.. the sim landscape will take on a different feel.. H@ll DCS already IMO has a lock on (no pun intended..) modern jets.... and by opening this up to 3rd party folks ... they may be on to something huge with this.. I know I'd jump all over it as long as I didn't have to spend $40 for one plane all the time.. I think RoF has a very nice method for doing that..
  12. FANTASTIC!! Thanks Chizh! Thanks for the link Duke...
  13. Are there any templates yet for the P-51? I have been fiddling around with it a bit .. but it is slow going. Leafer posted a great tutorial on skinning in this world 5 down in this thread..
  14. FFB.. Anybody got it working right? Does anyone have their FFB working right? My stick goes limp when I get into the sim... Comes back afterward.
  15. My squad is currently in IL2 46.. We may move over here as a group.. That remains to be seen.
  16. I will be looking forward to this template... Right now I have found a few PDFs on skinning in DCS.. :book: It is a bit more complicated than in IL2 and it looks like it is closer to skinning in WoP.
  17. As a film it left a lot to be desired... When I saw the German lead baddie .. and his scar ... I said to myself ... "Really? ReallY? A SCAR.. a German bad guy with a scar??!!:doh:" I fully expected him to pull out a monocle and a cigarette ... in a long holdr no less.. As entertainment .. for me I was pleased.. the planes.. the markings all that was pretty well done from a visual standpoint.. except for the vinyl squadron patches.. some of the acting was good.. in fact it wasn't the acting that sucked to me .. but the script it self.. It was awful .. AWFUL!! With a bad script the acting becomes almost moot.. Raygun? Raygun? Really? !! That character was actually created from Fred Hutchins who flew Little Freddie .. He got shot down 3 times.. and once was rescued by Greek partisans who nursed him back to health.. and he showed up at the base months later.. Entertaining? Yeah .. sure.. but a "memorable" film? Only in the bad ways... 12 O'Clock High .. a CLASSIC in the best way.. DBW.. I stumbled across this in Hollywood Video about 9 years ago.. what a great film.. I liked BoB .. even though it wasn't a movie perse..
  18. If you are talking to me.. no worries.. I have already spoken to B & AW .. and it;s all good.. and yes they do appreciate it.. The guys in my chapter were pleased...
  19. I think it's great.. Finally .. I have come to the conclusion that my niche is WWII birds.. I am not crazy about the jets.. the helos do nothing for me.. WWI is OK... but those '36-'46 birds really float my boat..
  20. Gotcha ... but you were the one who set up our Vent server back in the day right?
  21. Pat right?
  22. I remember you.. I still have the autographs.. What was your name back then because I have a severe case of CRS.. but I think I remember your wife got them in a garage sale right?
  23. Hmmmm looking at this makes me realize I am gong to have to at the very least install my new HD because the one I have now is almost full.. I have a New HD & W7 just itching to be installed.. especially before W8 comes out .. LOL.. but I am running an Fx-60 w 4 G of RAM.. I may have to just break down and do that upgrade thing that I have been putting off...
  24. I just found this a few nights ago.. still have to get my sticks configured.. I will be moving soon too so I'll be tearing it all down and rebuilding in a new mancave.. To the OP... No offense bruh.. and this is of course a free world.. but I have to tell you.. if you intend to represent in this venue, then you need to come correct or stay at home.. You need to drop those Mustangs with the D-Day markings on your home page and get some Redtails up in there .. otherwise you are just fronting. I have been at this for over a decade .... and it's more than just a game because for me it is my history.. so like I said.. it's a free world here in cyberspace.. but if you intend to use the name and wear the glory.. then you need to come correct across the board with what you are putting out. =!S!= P.S. check your PMs.
  25. A little late .... but the more the merrier ...
