  1. Kinda like Leap Motion on a Rift without wires. The tracking looked jittery and res was low. I wouldn't think we will see it in anything with the graphics fidelity we are used to for quite some time as we are struggling right now. Glad to see so much effort though. It bodes well for the future when hardware and software are geared for this.
  2. I read the link. If you are referring to the Oculus moderators as the unofficial team response, well, it seems 2 of them had already scratched their lenses and were as confused as many about cleaning. Oculus doesn't recommend using any liquid or chemical cleaners on the lenses https://support.oculus.com/help/oculus/483957785140290/ There may well be good poly-carb friendly cleaners that one can get away with but if they contain any alcohol, I personally would avoid them. I think their concern with liquid cleaners goes to concern for the electronics, as well.
  3. Install oculus Home. Run the setup. Your monitor will show the game while in the Rift (you may need to hit alt+enter for monitor to go full screen. Don't use alchohol you will damage the plastic lenses. Don't use paper towel you will scratch the lenses. Oculus has cleaning instructions. Enable allow unknown sources in Oculus Home settings/general. Your done
  4. It is not him, It is todays DCS 2 patch. I have the same problem after the download.
  5. Disregard my last post. There is indeed a problem with the last patch to DCS 2 as my Huey controls are half smudged. Mi8 has same issue. Controls I can read by leaning in in 1.5 don't improve in version 2. DCS 1.5 is OK
  6. I assume you know the headset tilts up and down and there is an IPD slider under the right side to adjust the sweet spot. The Oculus setup has an IPD setup routine, I also assume you have tried to clean them with the supplied lens cloth. If so, it may require opening a ticket with Oculus.
  7. Glad you found it helpful. Just want to offer kudos to the members of this forum. I try to contribute to many forums in an intelligent and meaningful way and I must say this is by far the most civilized and helpful group I have been privileged to be involved with. I too, have found much insight here. Goes to the higher intellect of those that play simulators as opposed to Donkey Kong games I suppose. My thanks as well
  8. Guess our age is showing. LOL
  9. Since there are some that don't find the CV1 up to the task, I would suspect you would be unhappy with the DK2 in DCS. I personally bought the CV1 without having experienced VR and before most reviews were out. The one advantage of CV1 being delayed was that it gave me a lot of time to cancel. The reviews by DCS pilots and Elite and IRacing kept me from hitting the cancel button. I have been flying since Sublogic invented Flightsim. When Flight Unlimited came about, I got my first taste of "ground closure" For me, DCS is the closest you can get to real flight on a home computer and in the CV1 it is awesome and the best we've got. For my part, I can no longer fly on my 147" HD display. If you are in the US, you may be able to get a demo. If not read and watch as many reviews as you can to aid in your decision. many of the posts and videos by DCS pilots convinced me that this was worth it. I am not sorry in the least.
  10. Sorry your so sensitive to them. I, like many who wear glasses, am not really bothered by the effect. In fact, I really don't notice them any more, even in the black of space. We're not likely to see much improvement as long as Fresnel lenses are in play. Some of the effect might be lessened through software and sliders, however, this is likely to require other sacrifices in fidelity. Perhaps in a generation or two this will be resolved.
  11. I agree that the clarity of current gen VR is an issue for flying combat in DCS. I fortunately bought the Rift to better simulate flight and spend little time flying my birds in combat. I particularly enjoy helos and the P51. The sense of flight for me is reward enough to prefer to do this in VR even at this earlier state. As I also am having a ball in Elite Dangerous and IRacing, these things alone will keep me in the Rift. I am also sure we will see much developed specifically at a level of graphics that this generation of HMD can handle (lower polygon count) that will keep it interesting. When titles are done from scratch for VR, they can look and run quite nicely. Although DCS supports VR, it wasn't originally intended, so I never expected it would run at the required resolution to run all the tasks necessary to be competitive in combat, but being able to fly beautifully simulated aircraft and properly judge distance to the deck is not going to loose it's enjoyment for this pilot. It may be novel, but isn't wearing off here. I am excited to see what the 160 plus companies developing for Oculus come up with. A very happy early adopter.
  12. Ordered my Vr Lenses Monday. Site still shows 7-10 days to finish Kickstarter orders before processing, but this has been up for a while so they might be current. My account says processing, but no tracking# yet. I wear contacts, but I find the heat from the Rift dries them out fairly quickly. Also with lenses I should be able to make focal adjustments I can't with contacts so should be better.
  13. You may be able to crank your PD a little in other games with the debug tool. Try 1.2 first. Probably shouldn't go more than 1.5 with a 970, but depends on the game. Welcome to VR.
  14. My CV1 went dark yesterday. Had to reinstall Home. When I did I was also prompted for firmware update. All good now
  15. May be your eyes. may be your Rift. I have never read of anyone not seeing the diff before. I just updated DCS 1.5 now that the patch was released today and not only is it's pixel density @ 1.5 better than the debug, it is also less of a hit on performance than the tool and appears to be even sharper. It may be only one mans opinion but this is excellent and definitely noticeable.
  16. I admit GregP's 2500 is less than ideal. my 2550k runs DCS ok but I can't run as high settings as you I am sure, however his not seeing any difference from the pixel density adjustments is not related to cpu power. Even if he had framerate issues he should still be able to get sharper instruments.
  17. The statement that you see no difference after applying 1.5 or 2 in the debug tool is curious to say the least. I assume you know you must launch Oculus Home before the tool. That you must leave the tool running. That you must hit enter after you type in the desired number. Also, I have heard that new Nvidia drivers are causing some VR issues, but don't know if the debug tool is one of them. I use 364.72 and have not seen a reason to migrate to a newer driver. That assumes you use an Nvidia card. It may not be as clear as a monitor, but you should still see the difference with pixel density. I can't speak to the built in pixel control as I am not running the beta. If you would speak to a specific aircraft and what you cannot read, we can tell you if your issue is expectations or that you are not getting the tool to run. Hope your not running that piece of crap called Windows 10, not that that is the culprit here, necessary. I would also ask what else have you played and did you try the debug with it?
  18. Close but no cigar. Oculus ATW doesn't drop the framerate to 45. Vive's Interleaved Reprojection does. ATW duplicates missed frames using the last good frame in an attempt to maintain 90 fps or as close as it can. .
  19. As far as I can tell, there are a few hand tracking solutions "in development. Leap Motion could be useful, the Manus Glove could be cool http://www.wareable.com/vr/manus-vr-gloves-gdc More is development here https://www.engadget.com/2014/06/05/control-vr-motion-tracking-gloves/ It would seem a lot of hand and body peripherals are coming. I don't see why this wouldn't work for DCS as far as hands in the game goes. [ame= ] [/ame]
  20. If you got an UPS email then you should get it tomorrow. The general tracking info never updates on time. If you click on your tracking number in the dialogue box (while logged on) you will get more current info.
  21. Didn't like wearing glasses with all the flipping up the hmd, so went to air flow contact -great. Getting my IPD from the optometrist really helped, as I couldn't quite tell with the Oculus test. Getting the right focus really helps with avoiding eye strain.
  22. The sdk is only 174 meg. It is well worth it.
  23. FYI My order date Jan 11 Estimate was July 11-27 26 hours from 1st processing notice to SHIPPED notice delivery UPS next Weds ( 5 days including week-end) Toronto area You can track with UPS all the way US usually gets delivery in a day
  24. Mine coming next Weds. Gonna be a long 5 days. See you inside
