Graphics settings and Visibility distance
sjpateys replied to sjpateys's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks!! I was hoping that was the case. -
I recently changed the visibility setting in the graphics options from HIGH to MEDIUM., because of FPS problems. Does anyone know how this affects the min distance that it is possible to see an air target? (I use cockpit zoom) I fly on 1960 resolution. It seems very difficult, I am not sure if the visibility setting make a difference here or not, can anyone clarify? thanks

Collective response problem with BS2 in DCS WORLD
sjpateys replied to sjpateys's topic in Bugs and Problems
I wondered if that was the case, however, the X52-pro has resistance steps at the lower and upper end of the travel. I hate it although I understand why its there to help you gauge throttle travel without looking at the stick. I wish it could be removed so that the stick is smooth for the entire stick travel. Come to think of it I hated the force feedback on my old sidewinder stick. The problem is with the new pitch setting in BS2 World you have to make most of your fine collective adjustments around the upper resistance step, which makes precision flying difficult, and it feels (to me anyhow) horrible, so I'm putting the settings back to how they were. -
Collective response problem with BS2 in DCS WORLD

Thanks I can see how that would work. you are adjusting the pitch curve by the look of it. -
Collective response problem with BS2 in DCS WORLD

I forgot to mention that the heli wanders slightly from side to side constantly as well in a slightly swaying motion -
I have played both bs1 and the bs2 upgrade for a while and decided to install world and the BS module to go with it. There seems to be a strange problem that the heli will only climb (albeit slowly) when the collective stick is at the upper limit of travel.(Normally heli lifts off at about 1/3rd travel or thereabouts) This does not happen in BS1 or BS2 only the DCS World version of blackshark. Its as if the pitch/throttle aren't working together in the normal linear fashion. I have checked gauges for rpm etc and engine governor to AUTO etc but can't see what problem is. I have gone back to BS2 upgrade and everything fine. I am using a saitek X52pro.

To place FARP do following. Create fast mission in usual way. Click edit mission button to bring created mission into ME. Go to EDIT and scroll down to place STATIC object. you will find a FARP in there first in list. Place it on map where you want it (make sure it matches your country!). Click and drag player heli onto it. alter waypoints as necessary. Your wingman comes with you when you do this. TO REFUEL/REARM YOU WILL HAVE TO POPULATE FARP WITH APPROPRIATE VEHICLES. I haven't bothered yet so cannot list all the vehicles. (there is a FARP thread which explains this though).Basically you need a fuel truck, power truck and a couple of others I believe. its not hard to find out. Hope this helps. I can clarify anything above if necessary.

could it be having an AMD processor?
-
I can fun rise of flight on max settings as smooth as silk, so don't tell me my system is lacking in any way!
-
P.S. I have an 8-core AMD processor, 8Ghz RAM and a GTX 550Ti G Card and I have to run the game on medium settings to get a reasonable (25-40FPS). I would love to know why! ( I tried tweaking system/card settings) has made no difference. Strangely BS1 is no better or perhaps worse.

trimming for a hover is the easiest thing in the world when you know how. 1) perform start sequence, allowing rotors to fully spool up. 2) push joystick forward 2/3 degrees, press trim and release stick. ( this stops the pitch up tendency when in default trim). 3) slowly increase collective until heli becomes light on wheels. 4) observe heli behaviour, and push/pull stick forwards/backwards slightly until ASI reads zero, retrim and centre stick. 5) press Auotohover, press trim again and center stick. job done. I fought with the heli for ages until realising how simple it really is. the secret is being gentle on the stick/ retrimming BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY MAKE SURE YOUR FRAME RATE IS REASONABLE. It must be at least 25FPS or so to trim properly. (press ctrl-break to show frame rate).

I am trying to create a new template with several vehicle types in it. According to the GUI manual you have place your vehicles on the map and save them all to the same vehicle group. Yet when i save the template it only saves a single vehicle type. can anyone clarify the procedure? I notice a previous post with the same question (no response in 2010) so I'm not the only one struggling. Please don't post RTFM or 'its in the manual' etc as I can read, unless you want an abusive reply. I can't understand why people post these things as if they're dealing with imbeciles.:)

Thankyou Peter I thought I might be missing something, but it seems not -
Unnecessary installation authentication requirement
sjpateys replied to GhostDog's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If you didn't require BS1 in order to install the upgrade, nobody would buy the full version. Why else would people buy the full version if this wasn't the case? -
infantry on top of building not possible?!?
sjpateys replied to Settingz85's topic in Mission Editor Issues
it is in BS2, so I would assume the same in A-10c -

I've noticed too that you can just sit in a hover and watch 'em fly right past your canopy!
