  5. The Nimrod MRA4 was a history of failure but in the closing stages the only failure was on behalf of the banks. The aircraft finally worked and a training system was even delivered for it. The UK government just decided they didn't have the cash for it and stated the historical failure of the project as a reason. By mid-2008 the only changes still going through were daft shit like more comfortable headrests.
  6. But in those wars they're used for killing people. Since deterrence is a very abstract non-measurable parameter, it's generally the performance in those wars that counts and acts as a deterrent.
  7. If only that worked.
  8. Which usually has people in it.
  9. What is the purpose of a military aircraft if not to kill people?
  10. I agree and at that price too. I think the success of the year should go to either the AH-64 or the AC-130 because they kill more people in 5 minutes than many other aircraft kill in a lifetime.
  11. Theoretically can't any round be given a DU core?
  12. Not if there are 2 GSh-30-2Ks, which still weigh less than one GAU-8. The rate of fire will be 50% greater 2 x 3000rpm) with only a ~10% reduction in muzzle KE.
  13. I was of the opinion that the GAU-8A was better because it had far more muzzle energy and a higher rate of fire. But then I looked at weight and the GSh-30-2K is only about 40% of the weight and the HE projectiles are slightly larger and have a higher filling percentage. So would 2 GSh-30-2Ks be better than one GAU-8?

  15. It couldn't have cost anymore than the F-22. The internal bay had the same A-A carry capacity as the F-22's but it had no side bays for sidewinders in the prototype. The main bay was actually deeper though, so it may have been able to fit larger bombs. Funny thing is, the frontal cross-section looks similar to the Su-50.
