first off fantastic module, absolutely loving it. my 1 concern is: seems the MiG-21 is a bit to durable, I pancake and it turns into a crash landing when it should have been instant death in my opinion, wings still intact and nothing broke off. Another one of my friends seems to think its over tuned for durability and I think its pretty obvious its a bit to tough to damage. any idea if this will be tuned a bit in the future (maybe its not for guns or missiles) but in terms of ground collision it definitely needs another pass.

Stonehouse I've been having some issues running your latest versions with an invalid symbol stopping the script. can you verify that your latest versions are ok with mist 3.4.26 (I also ran into same error with your packaged mist) b6_3x was last version I could get working. -

back working on script, I will post new version when its completed, working toward integrating wwII, korean,vietnam and modern eras into one script which can be set at top of the script. also will attempt at payload randomization however I may wait to do that for stonehouses next version and see how hes implementing the changes. all my changes are based off of the last version stonehouse has posted. -
I would definitely like to have weapons loadout moddable (not that I would) but would be nice for anyone that wanted to add something that didn't make it into the release.

personally, I don't know if I'd use it or not but I think it should definitely be available and then given to mission designers to either allow it, force it off, or leave it up to the client. fact of the matter is without labels in p-51d and stuff without radar or big black smoke trails behind aircraft it is virtually impossible to bump into enemies to engage them.

I have been so super lazy latley (I think in part with many of my friends not wanting to fly at all) that I have yet to implement the latest version of this script into Operation Perched Eagle... whenever I do get around to it, I will be sticking a fork in that mission :P -

I just want it to come out, DCS IG can play catch up later. I mean I want EDGE too but if the module is done better to have it in 1.2.9 while we wait for 2.0.0, I don't see the point in waiting for EDGE to release the module don't the devs wanna eat at some point? -
I should be perfectly clear that I'm not hating on ED or belsimtek or (insert whoever you wish here) I just find it infuriating to put many holes in an AI and have them fly perfectly fine still when i lose that 5-10pct of my ability from a single bullet hole. It has nothing to do with whats going on under the hood... not asking for anything major its just not very realistic to have AI perform at the same level despite battle damage and theres a fine line between flying perfect and just cheating -- I would believe they flew perfect if i had not killed the mig-15 more with the water then I have with my gun... I think the AI as a whole has a long way to go towards making DCS better then it currently is, I will also bet the farm on the fact that EDGE will do nothing directly toward making better AI... maybe it will free up some of the slice for better AI but after being told we would have robot servants by 2020 and we still have crappy AI in video games that cant even come close to fooling someone into believing its a human any AI related promises just don't do it for me. actions louder then words. now for necessary disclaimer (I know its beta and unfinished) and I know I'm not ace, i move mud and always burn up in a fireball in a dogfight!

well like yo-yo saying how it flies to perfection well for the love of everything holy make it fly without perfection once half of its plane is missing (i'm talking about the dora and the mig-15) unless they have fixed the dora so that it doesn't fly 100pct after having half the plane missing and then it knicks you with 1 round and your done for.

Hereje take a look at the guts of Operation Perched Eagle, if randomized tasks to complete are what your looking for thats the whole premise of the mission. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123615 I built the whole tasking script from scratch, although it does lack a bit of "story" to the whole thing it gives you stuff to kill in randomized locations (with a dynamic bullseye call to find them) you can always modify the F10 map option to show where things are spawning if your not familar with bullseye calls. or you can move the zones around and create your own mission in a different locale if you want. anyways might be a bit overboard but something interesting for you to try out, might save you some work. -

thats exactly why random capitals are just a bad idea, to easy to typo it, would rather it just be in all lowercase for simplicity sake. as for wishing the editor was this powerful, that'd be nice but having the scripting part of it is part of the game of making missions, just be thankful the language is there and is being utilized. no matter how good they make the ME GUI it would never compare to what you can do using LUA scripting... it would always be more restrictive. -
feels great to me, have no bias toward the plane either for or against but like the fact that it has no afterburner, is mach 1 capable and as someone else says feels different from the other aircraft with its own character.

doesn't turning off heat blur in options make that effect stop?

nothing in particular just practicing and thought the LAV-25's would be easier targets the vulcans but they proved otherwise.

Im running some tests for engagement range, I'm going by whats occuring in the sim. perhaps its exagerrated and my ranges were wrong... nvm the LAV-25 is firing at 2.2km which seems to make sense, with the vulcan firing a bit later then the 25mm (again makes sense) I guess the only real problem is the accuracy of the Tanks/APCs on excellent. and then during my test i was able to kill the vulcan with max range launch of S-25L and then engaged the LAV-25 with the 2nd S-25L and was able to kill em both on one pass *SIGH* I guess in this case I am just wrong... lol.

Isegrim I think you disagree just to disagree sometimes, this is MAXIMUM effective range not the typical high chance to hit scenario... vulcan sprays an area and is radar assisted, FYI 30mm on the A-10C and Su-25 are rated for like 3.5km max effective distance but I've also killed things in a hover with ka50 from 4.5-4.8km Vulcans are not a bigger threat at all and that's the point you can kill them before entering their WEZ, where with an LAV-25 with no radar is hitting me at 5km at the maximum possible range for almost all my weapon systems, where vulcans are waiting to spray at 3km with radar assisted aiming and I've already killed it... but if I didn't it has no problems spraying at ranges greater then 3km as i egress... somethings not right here AI on air defenses should be set excellent, tanks and apcs no higher then high (for the reason they are way to accurate shooting at air targets) this is the way I do my missions when I design them because they are anti-air terminators on excellent with only standoff munitions capable of killing em without being hit (and thats not fun nor realistic) and do some tests in a su-25 trying to S-25L a LAV-25, your gonna get shot up, run same test on vulcans and the vulcans can be killed safely. LAV-25 is an APC not an air defense and its providing better air defense then a dedicated air defense system... cmon now theres no way that is proper at all otherwise they would use LAV-25's as air defense platforms. I agree that jinking would easily defeat LAV-25 at least long enough to exit the WEZ but you can't jink while guiding a laser guided weapon, however you can kill vulcan without ever needing to jink THATS BROKEN the Tanks and APCs on excellent (and all other levels) need their ground to air shooting tweaked to better levels.

better off standalone unless you want to wait longer for releases (although steam keys do transfer to standalone, where ED shop keys do not xfer to steam) so if you wait for steam you have it on both platforms, thats about the only benefit to having steam distro over the standalone. -
Practical applications of the Su-25?

well often its just poor tactics by the pilot, they fly into missile wall and die when the target is outside of the WEZ of the missile wall. a single OSA site guarding something you can bait all the missiles out E-Z-P-Z and then destroy the targets. Another big problem (and not always the mission designer) is that people flying the mission have absolutley horrible situational awareness and pre-planning... I could write in briefing x area is heavily fortified by IR sams and people would be 1000 meters flying over that area, crashing and burning and then blame the mission designer.... how about you adjust tactics with the intel given if the ceiling of such a weapon system is 4km maybe you should fly over that area 4k meters high... you should always see where the FEBA is and then once past the frontline always assume a manpad is sitting in that villa down there. in short 90 pct of the time its the pilot making stupid decisions when flying. the kh-29l (although I refuse to use this on anything besides bridges, buildings and ships) and kh-25ml are the 2 weapons that provide standoff against mechanized IR sams and with proper fuel management you can definetly make more then 1-2 passes with the su-25. -
this can't be right, vulcans on excellent begin firing at much shorter distance then LAV-25's but then continue firing once tracking, however I can shoot a vulcan with a S-25L where as a LAV-25 engages and hits me quicker then a vulcan... just doesn't seem right but maybe I am wrong and LAV-25's have better range IRL. bushmaster chain gun max effective range: 3,000 meters vulcan max effective range: 5,000 meters whats going on here ED?

drop some slick bombs from over 4k feet, this is how i remove manpads. why slick bombs? cause the blast radius will kill infantry nearby you don't need to hit directly, if necessary bait a missile or two out by skirting the area below 3.5k feet give yourself say 20 km separation making note of where the launches were and not losing it, get a good pass setup and get the piper on the area, press hold weapon release (altitude will probably have fallen down to around 3k - 3.5k) begin climbing with the space you still have left... result at 4 - 4.5k you have flown to the release point bombs away and manpads all dead.

yea theres just some old information around about it being done in the Grach and just wanted to confirm its just not a feature for it (or a bug) Considering I really like the gunpods (sniping vulcans on excellent is not only good practice but a great use of a pylon) -
I fly the Grach far more often then the Tankovy model, it takes more skill (less fuel, less weapon payload) you get a more agile aircraft (mainly because of the weight and reduced fuel) and Its definitely harder to do well in but thats the point, also taking full load of S-25L or S-13's is good fun. My loadout of choice is 24 x FAB-100's, 2 x SPPU-21 Gunpods (realistic or not) I drop FAB-100's from over 4k meters to remove unwanted manpads/air defenses and gunpods for the rest... also about fuel consumption because I'm bombing from over 4k (or 4.5k depending on threats) you don't need extra fuel with proper throttle control (climb and trim for 600kmh IAS and you can maintain it at like 90 pct throttle) and with the higher flying makes it so that a combat radius of 120km+ is possible without the tanks... obviously having tanks is better but you sacrifice loadout and killing power for more fuel. thanks stonehouse for continued updates, with the beta release of the sabre been spending my free time trying to kill a mig-15 lol still no luck but BFM is getting better.
