I think still any P-51 shoting expecially long series casue huge fps drop. It is little better then in 1.2.2 casue before was heavy stutters during shoting but even now im my system fps drop from 60 till around 15-20 fps during heavy shoting. I think still it should be better optimalized.

So probably auto mode work dont like should? I notice during online dogfight that when i respawn in the air and set military power after a very short time with normal manouver flying ( 250-300mph) i got red line in coolant guage - i checked external view and saw that radiator door are near close position - it was long time when it was opened for full even if i got redline coolant temperature much eariler Once time when i respawned set military power and try to dogfight with enemy plane i got engine broken after not more then 2 minutes. I think that something is not right with auto position of radiator. -
HI! Since new update there is a problem with huge fps drop coming from ground crashes black smoke. When you look at the area with black smoke fps drop imidtielty from 60 till 5-10 ( depend of how many are black smoke crashes). Have any tips for fix these until ED make another update?

I confirmed. Got the same issue with P-51 and black smoke on the ground. Looking at the smoke area 5-10 fps ( depend of black smoke count) looking at area without smoke - 60 fps. -
Actually back from multiplayer P-51 server. All players confirm that there is a bug with black smoke on the ground ( from crashes planes) which casue HUGE FPS drop - from 60 fps till 5-10 fps ( depends how many are black smoke suorces). When you look anywhere but black smoke area - 60 fps when you look area with black smoke - imidietly fps drop till 10-5 ( depend how many black smoke places is). Positive side of update is that now shoting from P-51 dont casuse such big fps impact. But black smoke bug casue game is unplayable now :( Plz fix it soon.

HI! With DCS 1.2.2 there was a huge problem with fps drop and stuttering during shoting from guns in P-51. With 1.2.3 version there was little better (less stuttering) but still there is a huge fps drop during shoting. I got usually 35-60 fps during P-51 flying but when i or other P-51 start to long series shoting fps drop from 60 fps to even 10 fps usually. It is a big hit in smooth gameplay. Without shoting game is smooth. It would be nice if ED would work for better optimalization during shoting. There is also some fps drop proabalby with clouds - about 10-15 fps less then without them. My spec is: Q6600@3.2 Ghz, 4 GB Ramm, GTX 560 TI, Win7 64 bit.

Yesterday online dogfights showed me that i just didnt hit enemy P-51 from short distances - ab. 100 m. When i was talking about these with my squadron friend he ask me about my convergence and then i realize that i didnt see convergence options in DCS. Well flying about 10 years in combat sims tough me to shot from short distance - my usually convergence in WW2 sims was 150m (cannons) and 175-200m mgs - it usually work for me. I know that WW2 aces teched to shot from very short distances and they set their convergance for such short distances. It would be nice to have such options in DCS also.

:shocking: Ups not good. Convergance is important for accurate shoting and should depend of pilot preferences. We know that WW2 pilots expecially experience one set convergance for much closier distance, It is possible that such option will be implemented in future patches?

HI! I didnt see where i could set guns convergence in DCS P-51? I see that default is little too far for me. In all my games i usually used ab. 150-200m for mgs and 150m for cannons. How to change it in DCS P-51?

These is problem which not only i got. In 1.2.3 version is little better beacuse when heavy firing rounds there is not slide show like before but still there is huge fps drop even from 60 fps till around 10-14 fps. Normally i got 60-40 fps during flying but with firing rounds there are huge fps drop. Also i notice that with clouds fps is much less av. 20-45 fps.

So generally game is not smooth and little unplayable for me Offline mission against AI is playable mostly 60-30 fps but still very huge fps drop during long shoting I was hope for better optimialization expecially for shoting and clouds. I got Q6600@3.2Ghz, 4 GB Ramm, Gtx 560Ti, Win7 64 bit.

Well there are some moments which you need counter little opposite rudder - in ZLin 526 is is noticable during high power dives ( need little right rudder), power on zooms or slow speed high power climbs ( need little left rudder) but really it is not such strong effect, adding power from idle to full is marginally noticable - i used it for example during vertical dives (incresing speed) after some figures ( stall turn ) or Cuban Eight and then really dont feel too much prop effects. Rolls for any side are qiute easy not feel too much problem with left rolls, no problems with left flick rolls at all - truly speaking i made usually left flick rolls and half flick left roll ( Split S manouver). ZLin 526 has left rotating prop.

One important thing during take offs in DCS P-51. I dont know why but it is much easier to take off without using take off flaps. When i tried to take off with flaps plane became more unstable and swing stronger. It was for me very suprising casue i fly IRL prop planes and small flaps always help me in take offs in all planes i have flown and dont casue any problems. Normally it should be easier to take off with flaps - shorter take off run, lower take off speed ( higher lift) etc. I still wonder if IRL P-51 was soo tricky to take off with flaps - much more then without them? Anyone have idea? Yo-Yo?

Some time ago i tried spins characteristic of DCS-P51. Accelerated stall and spin to the left seemed ok - plane easly enter into left spin when pull back stick and left rudder --- these is logical casue P-51 prop rotate to the right - so all prop moments ( propwash, torque and p-factor casue plane yaw/rotate to the left) Accelerated spin to the right are rather impossible in DCS P-51 casue all of above effects in game are so strong that blocked right rudder input and not allowed plane to right rotating. If it is realistic? I dont know. Surly P-51 had very strong prop moments ( noticable during take offs) but i wonder if these effects were such strong to prevent accelerated spins to the right? Hard to say casue i haven't flown real P-51 yet. My experience is only with rather light low power aerobatic plane ( Zlin 526 180 HP) which have no problem to power on spin in any direction.

Fps drop during firing guns is still a lot but at least i dont notice too much sttuter. There is need to test it online casue in 1.2.2 there were heavy sttuters during firing guns

Well very good news. I love Dora9 it is very sexy girl :) -
I think Dora 9 would be the best choice to pair with P-51 i think both planes were equally matched at low to medium alts. But Anton is also not bad choice alhough at higher alts has low chance against P-51.

Yep quite strange but what i read - mostly German pilots opinions were that Dora 9 lose some exelent roll rate charactersitic of his predecessor. But i doubt if even the difference was not so huge. Donald Caldwell wrote of the FW 190 D-9�s operational debut in his The JG 26 War Diary Volume Two 1943-1945 (pages 388 � 399): 17 December: The Second Gruppe pilots returned to the front and their new base at Nördhorn-Clausheide in seventy-four Fw 190D-9s, their numbers bolstered by twenty brand-new pilots. The pilot�s opinions of the �long-nosed Dora�, or Dora-9, as it was variously nicknamed, were mixed. The new model was intended to correct the Fw 190�s most glaring weakness, its poor high altitude performance. What came out of Kurt Tank�s shop was a compromise. Tank did not like the liquid-cooled Jumo 213A engine, but it was the best choice available. The long in-line engine had to be balanced by a lengthened rear fuselage to maintain the proper center of gravity, making the Fw 190D four feet longer than the Fw 190A. The new airplane lacked the high turn rate and incredible rate of roll of its close-coupled radial-engined predecessor. It was a bit faster, however, with a maximum speed of 680 km/h (422 mph) at 6600 meters (21,650 feet).Its 2240 horespower with methanol-water injection (MW 50) gave it an excellent acceleration in combat situations. It also climbed and dived more rapidly than the Fw 190A, and so proved well suited to the dive-and-zoom ambush tactics favored by the Schlageter pilots. Many of the early models were not equipped with tanks for methanol, which was in very short supply in any event. At low altitude, the top speed and acceleration of these examples were inferior to those of Allied fighters. Hans Hartigs recalled that only one of the first batch of Dora-9s received by the First Gruppe had methanol-water injection, and the rest had a top speed of only 590 km/h (360 mph).

I dont know if i understand you correctly with these 1000 rpm and rise 70 C coolant temperature but in P-51 manual is note that to keep engine cool at the ground operations is recomended to not exceed 1000 RPMs ( in second manual i found not exceed 1500 RPMs). Still i cant belive that during one zoom from ex. 350 mph till 50 mph coolant temperature could rise from 100-110 C till even 150 C - so we got about 40-50 C increase during 5-10 seconds with still some speed ( >0).
