Hello all, I was really hoping I could figure all this out without resorting to posting, but Ive failed quite miserably. I have been away from sims for about five years, and it seems what little I knew has long fled my mind. I have a HOTAS Cougar and CH Pro Pedals set up and a fresh install of the older version of Black Shark. I followed the instructions to install the Cougar from Cougar World, and then went to CH's page to get whatever software was needed for the pedals. I downloaded target but havent done anything in it. I then downloaded Viper's layout for the Cougar, and installed it to the stick (I think.) In case I was wrong, at this point, in Foxy, I clicked "open joystick and associated macro file" and clicked on Viper's .tmj file. I then clicked download. Going into BS just to see what's what, I find the only input I have is the cyclic. No rudder, and no collective. In control panel (Im running XP), and in the Cougar Control Panel, all axis show up and seem to work. Returning to BS, I went to options, selected KA-50 game, and then axis settings. Under the CH Pedals column, when I select rudder, it sees and assigns 'axis z'. Under the HOTAS Cougar column, it correctly sees and assigns axis x, y, and z to cyclic forward, sideways, and collective respectively. Now, when going into the game, nothing changes. I still have cyclic control, but nothing else. If I leave the joystick centered, the BS cyclic remains still. However, if I press on the rudders, the cyclic moves and I cant recover it. From within BS, I completely removed all inputs in the CH Pedals column, but the problem persists. I tried deleting Viper's profile from within Foxy, and in its place installing the generic "games" profile, but everything remains the same. So, I realize that something is conflicting, and its likely my fault, but I am so lost right now, I need to seek help. Ive tried looking up fixes, but I have no idea what I am looking for. I see many issues getting rudder inputs to work, but all the solutions people enjoyed in the past do not work for me. Could someone provide me with some direction? Thanks very much. *** Damn, I just noticed the bugs subforum. Sorry about that.***

Cougar Axis Settings from in-game menu
Specter1075 replied to Specter1075's topic in Bugs and Problems
Ive got cyclic and rudder working, but I cant figure out the collective. In the drop down list of axis one may set, can someone tell me which refers to the throttle on a Cougar set up? The only list of axis I see are: JOY_ARX JOY_SLIDER1 JOY_ARY JOY_SLIDER2 JOY_ARZ JOY_VRX JOY_ASLIDER1 JOY_VRY JOY_ASLIDER2 JOY_VRZ JOY_AX JOY_VSLIDER1 JOY_AY JOY_VSLIDER2 JOY_AZ JOY_VX JOY_FRX JOY_VY JOY_FRY JOY_VZ JOY_FRZ JOY_X JOY_FSLIDER1 JOY_Y JOY_FSLIDER2 JOY_Z JOY_FX JOY_FY JOY_FZ JOY_RX JOY_RY JOY_RZ JOY_SLIDER1 JOY_SLIDER2 JOY_VRX JOY_VRY JOY_VRZ JOY_VSLIDER1 JOY_VSLIDER2 JOY_VX JOY_VY JOY_VZ JOY_X JOY_Z Could someone PLEASE tell me which of these refer to the throttle, if any. And if not, possible reasons why Im not seeing the throttle axis? Thank you! -
Hello all. Ive have not had much time to learn this sim yet, but what little time I do have has been marred by what I assume to be an imput problem. I have not been able to see this sim for longer than 10 seconds at a time because regardless of the situation, as soon as I have control, I begin pitching up uncontrolably, or spinning, or flipping completely upside down. It seems too violent to be a trim issue, and looking in the settings menu, it seems the inputs are set to unusual things. Could someone either point me to a good profile to load or tell me what the appropriate axis are called (ie what should I assign to collective up, down etc) I dont understand all the abbreviated codes I get for options when I want to assign a new input. Thanks, I hope this makes some sense cause I really dont know how else to describe the issue. EDIT Ok, sitting on the ground I can see that my throttle isnt doing anything, and the rudders seem to have some weird effect on the cyclic. I found a cougar profile which I uploaded, but it doesnt seem to fix the problem. Should I be addressing this issue in-game or through Foxy? Second EDIT Could someone provide me a screenshot of the menu screen with their axis assignments? I just dont know what to bind each control to. I can worry about everything else later, for now I just want to be able to control the cyclic, rudder and collective.

OT: Mi-28 Combat Helicopter add-on released.
Specter1075 replied to DPS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Has anyone tried this yet? All the features are essentially eye candy, but what I want to know is how does it fly? Can this, or other helicopters for that matter, in FSX have any kind of realistic flight model? -
F-18 with winglets, or photoshop?
Specter1075 replied to Force_Feedback's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thats the damndest thing Ive ever seen. I, in my humblest of opinions, really think that has to be a photoshoped photo. I cant think of any reason to have winglets like that, and they certainly dont look like antennae, or sensors of any kind. -
Undoubedly this will renew calls for the Tutor to be retired. They are undeniably old and, for whatever reason, the snowbirds seems to have far more incidents than equivalent teams from around the globe.

I bought it last June. The real pain now is that it wont work long enough for me to save an essay I was writing to my external hard-drive. The stupid thing is due tomorrow, I dont know anyone with a PCIe card, and my motherboard has nothing but PCIe slots. I think what I'll do is snag a new card tomorrow, despite the fact that I really dont have the money, then sell the 7950 after is it fixed/replaced by XTX.

I bought it, played the first quest, then my Geforce 7950 GX2 decided it was done with life. I guess I'll be waiting a bit before I play this one. Of all the months, C&C3 comes out soon too...

The guys on the ground were signalling when to turn and when to level out. -
If I may, I'll say one more thing regarding the manual; I dont care if its 20 manuals, or 1 ginormous manual, I would pay for a hardcopy. I could never understand how people can read from a monitor for any length of time. If it is economically unfeasible to produce hardcopies, I will undoubtedly be printing a copy at my local print-shop from the electronic version.

When I saw this topic revived, I thought that there might have been some word on a Black Shark manual.... guess not:cry:

Ultra High Definition Movie: Pougachev’s Cobra
Specter1075 replied to TucksonSonny's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Here is an irrelevant and probably stupid question; why does your clock advance so quickly during that movie? -
Regardless of that, I would still be inclined to believe that guided weapons are far more rare than unguided. Those incidents represent a very small portion of attempts made against coalition helicopters. If guided weapons were more prevalent, then I would think we would be seeing many more losses.

Everyone seems to be operating under the assumption that the choppers are being shot down by IR guided MANPADS. Is it not possible that small arms fire and/or unguided weapons (RPGs) are being used to greater effect? We dont know how many attempts are made against the choppers, so it could be out of 1000 shots, one gets lucky, but since it only takes 4 or 5 days for 1000 attempts, you get a chopper going down in what seems to be a frequent occurance. Maybe Im wrong...

Alredy looking beter than black shark
Specter1075 replied to sixer's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Im not even sure I would agree about the water. It looks good, but I dont think is exceeds lockon by any significant amount. While EECH involved lots of ship based missions, I wouldnt expect much need to see a lot of water in either sim. Thats just me... -
i know its been said but i have to express....

Though delays are always disappointing, they are not new. I cant think of one piece of software that Ive wanted that has come out without any delays or missed dead-lines. Its to the point that I expect them, and provided that the final product is acceptable, then I dont mind. That said, Im suprised that threads like these exist anymore. Honestly, everything gets delayed! And I say that not as a negative thing, but as something factual. Im as anxious for Back Shark as the next guy, maybe more so, but I accept the delays. The environment here is way better than many other places. We get regular interaction from devs and beta testers which I think is very valuable. The example that comes to mind for me was the last Splinter Cell game. There was little information, insane delays (one week delays, 2 or 3 times in a row) and barely any information from anyone important. The product ended up being (in my mind) inferior to the previous three titles. If the team stays silent, then they break no estimations, but that does not ensure a good product. Back on point, this thread expressed frustration over the delays in the game. However, one cannot predict or prevent them all the time. The only thing that could have been done differently is less communication from anyone official. Would that have been better? Not unless 'better' only means the absence of minor disappointments. -
The Ka-50 Black Shark thread
Specter1075 replied to Force_Feedback's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all! While this question has been somewhat asked and somewhat answered, I will ask it in my own way in the hopes of getting a different answer. My understanding of things is that information must be available to the public, or at least not classified, in order for a company like ED to realistically model some or all of the systems that make up the Black Shark. Assuming that I am correct, is it possible to access documents or manuals for aspects of the Black Shark, such as the ABRIS? I understand that ED cannot/will not release the manual for their sim, but there must exist manuals for the systems as they exist in real life. Are any of them available as a means to begin studying for when we see these systems in ED's Blackshark? I would guess no, else they would have already been posted. However, if they do not exist in the public sphere, does ED have special agreements to gain access to the information? Thanks guys! -
Some info cross posted from the Russian Forums

Some of the planes listed would be awesome. I especially like the idea of the SU-24, AH-1 and OH-58. A fighter-bomber with variable geometry wings would be a great change to the current line-up. (Even though it isnt all that likely) -
Refering to the comment that the ABRIS aspect of the manual is 125 pages long, I'm definately hoping for some kind of printed manual made available for purchase. I know this has been said before, but I dont ever remember seeing an answer, yea or nea.

New Screenshots: 15/12/06
Specter1075 replied to Specter1075's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I noticed that too, but it doesnt hinder our ability to see the detail that has gone into those models. They are very nice looking. I wonder if that reactive armor will break apart when under fire. -
Screenshots section. All of MBTs. I think Im the first to post this... Been wanting to make a discovery for a while...

I wonder if there is any way to find out what exactly the "swastika" building is and how old it is....

These arnt "official" videos. They were demonstrating the game at some event and one of the Beta Testers was kind enough to post some of what they were doing so we wouldnt miss out. I wouldnt complain. фрог-фут didnt have to do any of this.
