  1. Technically, yes but while they were designated A+ they were without any significant air to ground capability.
  2. And its got bomb racks... Super!
  3. That would be F-14D ... think phonetic alphabet
  4. For a Forum thread this sure seems like a party. Everyone seems to have cat scratch fever.
  5. You know that the Mossy, Beau and A-20 are not considered medium bombers right? Mossy is a Light Bomber/Fighter-Bomber, Beau is a Fighter-Bomber and A-20 is an Attack/Light Bomber. The B-26 Marauder needs to happen.
  6. True, a GPS was integrated into the Tomcats AAQ-14 as well to create the Lantirn Targeting System (LTS) which was a better system than the F-15E or F-16's had due to the pod being a self contained targeting system.
  7. Like the T-41 Mescalero http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_T-41_Mescalero
  8. Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infra Red for Night- LANTIRN Its a FLIR with a laser targeting capability. The F-14D's APG-71 Radar has the capability for ground mapping and possibly ground attack modes similar to the APG-70 of the F-15E although I cannot verify what modes were actually used... if any. https://books.google.com/books?id=l-DzknmTgDUC&pg=PA214&lpg=PA214&dq=APG-71+multi+mode+Radar&source=bl&ots=2tcOCYqbHo&sig=0rcwPkB7qJQQKHyvlfB2-SMQthI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=roTzVPa0D4PxoAS1zoK4Cg&ved=0CFsQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=APG-71%20multi%20mode%20Radar&f=false The APG-71 Radar, AAQ-14 LANTIRN 40k, AAS-42 IRST and AXX-1 TCS combined with a dedicated RIO to operate the systems will make the F-14D Super Tommy a very tough nut to crack in the DCS skies. I will be happy with any variant of the Tomcat though.
  9. My thoughts are for a possible Solomon's or Philippine sea/Leyte Gulf map. We have seen the Corsair Cockpit, the pic on the website that looks like CV-6. Putting those two clues together suggests a post Midway scenario as the Corsair was not used in Midway. Cobra, I take it one of the new features you will be working on will be the implementation of Torpedoes as viable anti ship weapons? The Midway scenario would be interesting as well as there were new types being used for the first time in that battle. I would love to have a TBM Avenger or B-26 Marauder. Not really looking forward to the Devastator though... Torpedo 8 anyone?
  10. Interesting, was hoping for the next module announcement... whats another two days anyway. Nice to see the focus on developing actual theaters though.
  11. All I did was run the repair and it worked like a charm. No uninstalling or reinstalling necessary.
  12. The Navy did the same thing for their heritage flights in Lemoore back in 2012. I got to get a really good look at a Wildcat, Buckeye and my personal favorite the F4U Corsair while they were parked on VFA-122's line as well as see them fly their formations.
  13. Well, some people just want to blow things up. Other people want to fly the aircraft. Still others want to perform missions to achieve objectives. I like to do all three, so I would buy a UH-60 or CH-47 as quickly as I would buy a Mi-24 or AH-1F. For the here and now, the CTTS scripts bring a lot of fun to using the utility helo's. The ability to capture and use airfields with the troop transport scripts is very useful (I love dropping a stinger team off at the departure end of an enemy airfield and watching the mayhem ensue as well). Lately I've been practicing moving sling loads to oil platforms and ships which takes a lot of concentration. Arma is an infantry simulator and everything else in the game plays second fiddle to that. That being the case, Arma is a poor comparison for troop insertion as the aircraft flight models suck and weight is not simulated... A Blackhawk could never sling load an M-1 Abrams. In DCS the weight can be added to the helo's to make them fly as they would with an actual cargo... The only issue with this at the moment is that the cargo cannot be seen and when disembarking from the helo the troops magically appear outside the helo which in my opinion is a poor reason to justify not purchasing a utility type. I bought the huey knowing the current limitations of DCS... but I also know that DCS is still being developed so the growth of features is inevitable. Will it be an Arma type infantry sim in the future? I don't know, but it is an outstanding aircraft simulator right now and that's is why I use it. Oh, and after the Hind F I wwould like to see the MV-22 Osprey.
  14. No, Topgun does not really exist as it was represented in the movie anymore. It is now the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center which teaches more than just Dogfighting and BVR tactics but has expanded to include strike warfare as well. The first time new Navy pilots go to the boat they are flying the T-45 Goshawk. Before they ever get anywhere near the boat they are doing ground school and Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP). As far as a specific platform like the F-14 or F/A-18 is concerned, when the Student Naval Aviators graduate and are designated as Naval Aviators they would be assigned to a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) such as VF-101 or VF-124 for the Tomcat or VFA-25, VFA-106, VFA-122, VMFAT-101, or VAQ-129 for the F/A-18A-F or EA-18G. It is at the FRS that the new Naval Aviators will learn the aircraft inside and out and will perform FCLP's and first take the aircraft they will one day be operating in a fleet squadron to the boat. Most Naval Air Stations and their Outlying Fields (OLF) have the capability to perform FCLP's. As far as the NTTR, If it can be expanded upon, I hope to one day have NAS Fallon and associated range complex as well. Oh and Reno Stead Field for some awesome air racing action... I hope I can make it back there this year for the air races.:pilotfly:
  15. That makes you at odds with ED then as they have stated clearly that DCS:World is intended for both military and civilian aircraft. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1480510#post1480510 I for one would love to have a 757, C-5B, C-17A, MC-130H, Tu-22M-3 and B-1B in the sim. Sometimes I just want to fly around and not shoot stuff... Perhaps move supplies from base to base on maps with limited supplies of weapons or run personnel//troops to an airbase.
  16. I would indeed like to see missiles, rockets, bombs and gunpods included in the service date timeline. I'm not sure if internal weapons can be edited in this fashion at all so I don't expect that to be a feature as I am imagining it. What is needed is an in service from and to date for the objects in question be it aircraft, weapons, ground units, or ships. The strike fighter series of games proves that it can indeed be done in a very simple fashion. How detailed it becomes depends on how realistic ED wants to make it.
  17. What exactly are you thinking with the general period grouping? How would you imagine the periods be broken down?
  18. The price issue is moot in my opinion. The recommendation is for a core game update to include a timeline that is selectable in the ME. Yes, it will take some initial work to update the limited amount of units currently in the FREE sim but after that it will be a part of each module from the get go and could be implemented in a simple manner. The whole point of having the ME is to make it easy to put together missions. I'd rather have that than have to rely on everyone making a mission being knowledgeable on each and every weapon/platform in the sim. The developers of the modules are the experts and have already done that research.
  19. What other airplane would that be?
  20. Yes it was the fleet defender. But it was also designed to go toe to toe with the best land based fighters of the time as well. That is a big part of the reason the F-111B was killed off so spectacularly which led to the Tomcats actual name. The Iranians proved the Tomcat to be a very capable air superiority fighter during the Iran/Iraq war. It has not been proven (thankfully) how effective the Tomcat would have been against the Long Range Bomber/Cruise Missile threat.
