  1. Final Tomcat War Cruise Videos. VF-31 part1 part 2 VF-213 part 1 part 2 The 22 jet delta formation at the end of cruise was spectacular. The noise and sight of all of those Tomcats in formation flying over the boat was awesome.
  2. Where do your interests lay? Do you want to fly fighters? Do you want to fly helicopters? How about transports or bombers? The main question is what do you want most? Have you done any ROTC in college or high school? Not everyone can adapt to service life well. Remember, as an officer you are a leader first and you will be a pilot second. There is a lot of extra duties and responsibilities associated with being an officer other than just being a pilot. The exception to that (I believe) is the Army Flight Warrant Officers. Warrant Officers are technical experts who specialize in what their MOS is and are not burdened by everything an unrestricted line officer has to deal with. If you just want to fly I bet that would be a good path to take. In the Air Force only about 4% of officers are pilots. All pilot positions are highly sought after so competition is fierce. You will have to do everything necessary to ensure you are the candidate that your chosen branch will want to put in the pilots seat. I suggest doing a little research into what it is you truly want to do. F-4N Phantom II of VF-202 "Superheats" of CVWR-20, NAS Dallas. F-4S "Vandy 1" VX-4 "Evaluators" Still waiting for one of these in DCS. When one arrives it'll be a great day for Phantom Phanatics.
  4. And you forgot about DCS: Camaro SS
  5. That is true too, WWII aircraft are very light when compared to more modern warplanes.
  6. mvsgas is totally correct. Most unpacked ground cannot support the weight of an aircraft and the tires sink into the dirt. A crane is needed to extract the aircraft when this happens. I know this because one of my Hornets got stuck in the dirt while being positioned at compass rose in Lemoore. As soon as the tire left the concrete it sank to the axle and could not be moved without the use of the crash crane. This is not a problem. It's a feature of DCS. Here's some pics... I can't seem to find any of smaller aircraft being stuck but it does happen. Planes are not even safe on asphalt:
  7. I also saw the conversion from QF-100 to QF-106 and I remember seeing the 7th, 8th and 9th TFS flying F-15A's. I was told they had actually received a few of F-15C's before the decision to move the F-117's from Tonopah. I was at the ceremony when the first official F-117 flew in. That was my first good look at the F-117. I also attended the decommissioning of the 20th FS.
  8. My father retired out of Holloman in 1989 and they still live in the area. I miss seeing the F-4F's of the 20th FS flying around. When I was there they were flying the QF-106's and the QF-4's. I know they are still flying the QF-4's and there are QF-16's there now. Tornados and F-117's were always a treat. I haven't been back there in a long time so I have never seen the F-22's flying there. I did see some 7th FS F-22's at the Reno air races in 2012.
  9. Well, I already own all except the MiG-15Bis and C-101CC/EB. I will have the P-47D, Spitfire MkIX, and Me-262A as soon as they are released...So... for the announced modules I'm definitely getting the F-14A/B, Mi-24P Hind F, OH-58D Kiowa, AH-1 Cobra, Mirage F-1, Sea Harrier FRS1, Tornado GR1, Gazelle, Bo-105, CH-47 Chinook, and Sa-330 Puma. I'll probably get the F/A-18C as well as I used to work on it and am familiar with the jet. As for my most wanted (day one purchases) that are not officially being produced yet- F-14D Super Tomcat, F4U-1A/C/D Corsair, F4U-4/4B Corsair, F4U-5N Corsair, OV-10A/D Bronco, F-4E ARN-101 Phantom, F-4G Wild Weasel V, F-105G Wild Weasel III, F-105D Thunderchief, F-111F, F-111E, F-111D, F-111C, F-111A, FB-111A, EF-111A, B-1B Lancer, Mi-24A, Mi-24V, B-26B/G Marauder, CV-22B Osprey, MC-130H Combat Talon II, MH-60K/M, MH-60G Pave Hawk, A/MH-6 Little Bird, MH-53J/M Pave Low III/IV, F-4D Phantom II, F-4J Phantom II, MiG-27K Flogger J2, MiG-25BM Foxbat F, AV-8B Harrier II, Harrier GR7, Harrier T12, Me-410A/B Hornesse, Me-210A, B-29A Superfortress, KC-10A Extender, C-5B Galaxy, C-17A Globemaster III, Victor B2/K2, PA-200 Tornado, Tornado ECR, F-5E Tiger II, F-100D Super Sabre, He-219 Uhu, F-8E/H Crusader, A-7E Corsair II, Hs-129B, and the T-45C Goshawk.:pilotfly: Edit: In my grogginess last night I forgot the Tu-22M3 Backfire C and Su-17M-4 Fitter K in my list as well.
  10. If you extend it just a little farther north MCAS El Toro could be included for the Hornet. It was home to the west coast Marine Corp Hornet squadrons before the move to Miramar. Edit: Actually I think it is under the tab for traffic bicycling directions right on the top edge.
  11. Well, I'd love to have the F-4G. The F-4E with the ARN-101 upgrade, and the F-4J/S would be day one purchases as well. I would also buy the F-4B/C/D and non upgraded F-4E as well.
  12. CV-22B Osprey... I'd love to have these in DCS!
  13. Me-410
  14. LOL... Imagine that? Wikipedia was wrong!:megalol:
  15. Funniest statement I've read today. You do realize that another simulator modeled the entire world about 17 years ago... It is entirely possible to model the entire world and DCS:World would be the better for it. You are correct that people are stupid though... especially when they make blanket statements with an absolute term such as the word "always" inserted into them. I voted yes because I want the most authentic flight simulator available. Some would say go play FSX or X-plane if you just want to fly around. The truth is that those other two do not have exactly what I want in a simulator. DCS World comes the closest as far as the flight models and systems are concerned and the piece that will really bring in more aircraft and terrain developers will be the modeling of the entire world... even if it is mostly barren nothingness on most of the surface of the globe in the beginning. My hope is that if this is the case then the rest can be filled in by third parties further in the future as newer aircraft, ships and vehicles become available so the canvas will be there to add the detailed terrains to. Right now, the big question mark is the implementation of EDGE and the ambition of Eagle Dynamics to truly mold this simulator to their vision. See below for the ED vision: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89885
  16. You should put together a Wikipedia page on how to do that!:D Wikipedia is a great source for actual references on any given subject... Just don't bother with everything above the references.

  18. I wouldn't mind if they did the F-14A, F-14B and F-14D as the three releases.
  19. Like Sithspawn said, no one can better decide what product is a good purchase for themselves than themselves. To boycott a product line is a choice that is your to make. I just wouldn't expect others to agree with your stance when what is released so far is far better than it's closest alternative. When I purchase a beta anything I expect flaws to exist. A beta is an unfinished product. Perhaps you should have waited until the MiG was out of beta to purchase it. It is still a work in progress and still supported by Leatherneck Simulations. It seems not everyone has the patience to deal with the issues involved with beta releases which is what seems to be the case in this instance. Honestly, I cannot think of another Sim that models the MiG-21 better than this module... can you?
  20. Very true. If the true star of the movie (the F-14) is not going to be in the sequel then you will end up with a very lack luster flick. That is why I am not really excited by a Topgun sequel.
  21. That is how I imagine a DCS globe model being built as well. It would be nice to have targets for an ASM-135 so a low earth orbit would be nice as well. As for a DCS module, I'd rather have the K'Vort or B'rel class Bird of Prey. The X-wing is for Skywalker wannabees!:smilewink:
  22. Lol... I didn't even notice. The one I have is the 2002 edition.
  23. That book is nice and all but it leaves out a lot of content. I would recommend this book instead: http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-Encyclopedia-World-Aircraft/dp/0760705925 Plus it is way less expensive:thumbup:

    Bombers

+1 for the S-3B Viking. I worked on that platform for a number of years and it was a lot more than just a tanker. It had the best surface search radar at the time in the form of the APS-137 ISAR radar, JTIDS and a very good ESM set. The S-3B had the capability to launch AGM-84 Harpoon/SLAM, AGM-65 Maverick, ADM-141 TALD, Mk-82/83/84, Mk-46/50 Torpedoes, Mk-20 Rockeye, Mk-60 CAPTOR, Mk-62/63/64 Quickstrrike, Mk-65 and Mk-56. It also had great range and loiter as demanded by the original ASW mission. It was not a great tanker though because it's total fuel load was only about 9500lbs which, with exception to the H-60's was the smallest fuel load of any platform on the boat. It was a decent recovery tanker though so that's what it was used for. First fixed wing off the deck and last back on at the end of the night. As a final checker, I hated the yo-yo tanker sorties and absolutely loved the Sea Dragon missions in the gulf. Yo-yo's were launched on one cycle and as would be back immediately in the next recovery and made for a lot of frantic work to turn around to launch again in a really small timeframe. Sea Dragon missions would launch out double bubble and be gone between four to six hours running up and down the coast of Iran doing maritime reconnaissance and probing response times of their air force. Here's a nice pic I found on the web of a weapons det we did from Atsugi when I was with VS-21. Location is the CALA at K-bay HI in, I believe 2000. Was a very memorable det... don't use a coconut for a football... it really hurts! The ES-3A Shadow would be nice as well:
  25. Well, it was definitely the last war cruise and I was there. After we got back in 2006 I transferred to VX-9 that April so I was not there for the final surge they did a few months later and all of the Tomcats were retired in September 2006. Everything I have posted is easily verifiable if you just take the time to research it.
