Another thing i'd really like to know is why the Mig-29S is available for online leader boards when its not available as a flyable in single player? Does this mean we can have an F-16C? Or a Walrus? edit: And why does the manual cover the N-001 and N-019 along with a detailed description of the APG-63 and its weaknesses, but fails to cover the N-019M Topaz currently used in the most popular interceptor online? Manual pages 114-117 -

The other thing that would be nice to see is your plane exploding after you get hit instead of an abrupt switch to Theater with externals off. The chat window should also show the kill, eject.. etc... instead of "crash" in the event log. Is this a bug? Or just by design..... When i first started flying online, i thought there was a problem with my software that is was CTD (but crashing to Theater) until i was told i been shot down when that happens... If im getting shot down... i wanna see fireworks when i explode dammit! And i also want to be able to see who shot me down without searching the event log. Is it hard to retain this feature if externals are off? -

If a pilot flys with one hand on the ejection handle... he wont be flying LOFC for long on any servers... as someone in this thread pointed out (i havent seen this type of behavior yet, but then again i havent been online long). In the meantime, i guess the victor at least gets the fun of seeing fireworks, and perhaps could strafe the fledging coward in his chute to get a kill? It is only a game afterall... -
I never break off. My evasion techniques keep the lock at all times while maneuvering till it either hits or misses. Now my evasion techniques were very poor when i started getting use to the "simmisms" of this game. But they are progessively getting better as i fine tune and get more used to the flight model(s). edit: The countdown isnt particularly hard to see for me, especially with TIR4. I just wasnt clear on what it was counting down. After a few practice runs watching the count, there is nothing i need to change from what i was doing before. My kill ratio is actually almost 100% when flying the "quick fly" from the start-up screen on Ace settings. I know human pilots evade much better.. but 20% hit ratio? My 7's land with much more accuracy online vs the 120's. From what i understand, it should be the other way around.. Thanks for your input snomhf... and get your butt online so i can have a good wingman in the 15!

OT: When was it your first time?
capttrob replied to Pilotasso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I grew up with a grass field "aerodrome" basically in my backyard. I would hop my fence and walk the path through the woods to watch airplanes take off and land. When i was about 13, i had odd jobs to save money to take lessons (you can take lessons at any age). I was ready to solo before i was of age to solo. I had 87 hours total time when i finally was of age to solo. I'll never forget it. I got my Private at age 18, my instrument at age 19, took a break from flying cause the industry was going to crap while trying to figure out what i wanted to do (always wanted to be a pilot, but in those days, pilots were paying upwards of 15k just to get hired.. also known as Pay For Training - PFT). There was no way i could swing that and college at the same time. So... i sold cars/landscaped/worked FBO ramps for a few years while taking college courses in Aerospace. A few years later, the industry started to turn around and i got my Commercial, Multi, CFI II and MEI. I worked the ramps at the local FBO pumping gas and towing airplanes while going through college to make connections. I took most of my rides with the Feds since they dont charge for the check ride. Once i got my CFI, i was the senior Flight Instructor at that same grass field i used to watch airplanes. In the mid 90's i tried to join the Marines and go to Quantico for OCS and become a Marine Aviator. I already had all my ratings and about 800 hours total time. But, with Clinton cutbacks at the time, you had to basically be a 4.0 out of MIT to get an Aviation Contract. I was no where near that and there was no way i was going to take the recruiters suggestions of "Green to Gold... Seaman to Admiral" pitches. So i went the civilian route and ended up an airline pilot. I've owned sims since the first MSFS, Pro Pilot, MS98 (used to train instrument students on FS98 with CH Products.. .awesome company imo). I really got into CFS1 near the turn of the century. I've built many RC planes and warbirds including a Great Planes J3 Cub covered in silk (have about 30 hours in the real deal), a Top Flite F4U, a Sig Bonanza (have about 500 hours in a gorgeous A36 i used to fly charter) and various ARF's. I've been flying total for about 20 years and professionally for about 10 years. My airline recently went out of business (in case some of you are wondering why i have so much time on my hands...lol). So.., if any of you know anyone looking for a good pilot with a strong resume.. or perhaps a software/joystick company looking for technical consultant pilots with a knack for building pc's and a strong learning curve...dont hesistate to PM me. I actually prefer to work for a software/joystick company at this point considering how the airline industry is today. I have some very creative ideas/plans for a variety of cost effective, portable, home cockpit designs affordable to the everyday end user combat sim pilot and virtual airline pilot alike. :-) Other than that... im certainly enjoying Lock-On during my down time. I enjoy Shooters of any kind, yet i've never been into guns... figure that one out..lol Put guns on an airplane and its hard to pull me away. I've owned many games from Pong to current X360 and LOMAC. I'll be a gamer till the day i die. :icon_supe edit for typos... -

PS, do any of these planes have WX radar? I cant imagine an F-15 flying cross country without some sort of WX radar. -

Never know, one of them may have hit if you didnt hit the ground.. ;) Then again, yeah.. you probably would have gotten me. Im gettin there though... How well did you guys perform after having this game for two weeks? :icon_supe Keep in mind i have only flown mission 1 and 2 on the F15 campaign. All my training has been online in your server. edit: i checked out the second picture... thats strange stuff man.... I did find it kind of odd that you had crashed. I figured something must have gone really wrong.... i guess it doesnt get any more "wrong" than that...lol -

No offense.. .but if i screw up, or get a bit too slow and get in a deep stall, or hit someone's wake, im punchin out if i cant recover (hasnt happen to me yet, but im sure it will at some point). Just as i would in real life. Pilots do make mistakes, it doesnt mean they are a bad pilot. It means they're human. Being that this is a game, and that vulching is allowed on defenseless victims with their canopy open, i think punching out after trying to recover from a deep stall takes more skill than blasting a guy sitting on the ramp. Now of course some rookies will punch out as soon as they drop a wing, but others may be fighting it till 100 agl. Just my opinion of course... but yeah, it is frustrating when pilots dump their plane when they dont want to get hit... lots of that going around when i used to play CFS1. Personally, flying with one hand on the ejection lever doesnt leave any hands left to work the radar... ;) <~~~ they really need to put that cheers smiley in here... -

S! Ice, It seems there is only one thumbnail there.... Pretty picture though... what kind of rig you running? Im trying to rope in more 54th so we can get more in the LOFC community. Several are upgrading their old LOMAC's to FC with 1.12a and a few others are getting the full kit-an-kabootle. So hopefully we'll get some good matches going once these guys learn their systems. But i warn you, these guys are master marksmen. Give them that radar gunsight and watchout in close range. The 54th i was flying with tonight used to fly LOFC, but needed to get back up to speed on the bells and whistles. When he felt comfortable, we decided to turn and find ya.... we were about 50 miles out to sea when we turned. I see you were way high trying to find us...lol 450 or thereabouts... When i tossed my first two 120's, i thought you were going down with that dive. I had you visually at that point cause you were leaving a nice contrail which i misinterpreted as a hit. Then you disappeared off radar. I checked to see if i got the kill, and only saw the loss on your side... That must've been one helluva dive out of FL450. I threw in a few more 120's and 7's for good measure when i saw smoke (contrails) coming from your ship... mainly cause i love the zzzspace sound pack missle launch sounds... especially the Aim 7 sounds... ;) It was fun... once again.. thank you so much for the server... S! -
zzzspace sound track radio chatter...
capttrob replied to capttrob's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I appreciate your input Frazer, but i hear enough cockpit radio chatter when i work. I dont really need one on an endless loop. Just trying to figure out a way to shut the thing off.... However, you did give me a good idea to search the files.. thanks! -
I get a good chuckle from your current sig. That movie was awesome (PF... EP3 was too). I can just see that type font on the saber... with Sam Jackson saying it in his "matter of fact tone" while dressed in his Jedi get-up...lol.. funny sh't. But if you were to change it, the suggestion in the above quote gets my vote.... :icon_supe :icon_jook Keep that Nazi crap away though.... edit: Although, upon further review, there isnt any swastika... and the maltese cross is a current symbol for the Luftwaffe which is one of our allies... so, to each their own i guess. I kinda dig the maltese cross myself.... didnt really read the words.. moving to fast for the amount of drinks i had....

So let me see if i understand this. If a pilot sees that he is going to crash and pulls the ejection handles... this is considered cheating the system? He should just "ride it in" with his hair on fire yelling YEEEE HAAAAAW!?!?!? for the sake of someone else getting a kill? Yet vulching is perfectly ok? I say if vulching is ok because "this is war", then a pilot that is able to reach the ejection handles when he knows he is a smoking hole should be ok... because after all.. "this is war"... I applaud the pilot who can reach his handles before moving mud with his radome. If pilots are deliberately crashing to avoid being hit by a missle and it doesnt count as a loss or kill... then i see your point. That IS very frustrating.. had alot of that in CFS1. I didnt read the whole thread... so i could be misunderstanding the point altogether... in that case, i get what i deserve for coming in, in the middle of a conversation....;) edit: and i agree with your assessment of the mig vs. mig/f15 vs. 15 stats. -

Is ejecting considered "cheating the system"? If so, give me some damn fire suppression and i wont have to eject when i get a simple engine fire. I can put it out and keep fighting single engine... -
Which slider turns down the radio chatter? I turned down the radio slider, that doesnt work. I turned down the music slider.. didnt work either. Listeniing to the same loop gets tiring after a while... Magic is having a real hard time getting ahold of the air boss...

Ok, thanks GG, i'll keep a closer eye on it... By the way... i now realize you dont have to keep the box in the center of the ASE. All my AIM-7's and AIM-120's were always locked when i launched, after launch, and during hit or miss. The AIM-7 i just thought i had to keep in the center of ASE (sort of like FLOOD). I now see this is not the case.... thanks for the tips... Although, the way some of these 120's track, perhaps i should keep them in the center of the ASE for its entire flight...lol

Does it say "TTI/A" on the HUD? I figured the longer the range, the longer for ARH to become active, so i extended out a bit and turned to engage the two Su-23's at about 25 miles (Then again, i'd NEVER launch that far out online... its a waste of a 120... only Rtr for me if i want to hit 1 out of 5...lol). All i saw on the lower left of the HUD was M 6 23 in BVR RWS (numbers arent exact, but you get my point). Is this the countdown? When i launched, the 6 started down and the 23 stayed put (IIRC). I thought this type of countdown was for TWS? Maybe im getting it confused.. .dunno. Did some practice with FLOOD for the 7 and visual for the 120. That works very well.
-
I just spent a ew minutes in the quick fly on the start page. I didnt see TTI or TTA on the hud or VSD at all. Am i looking at the wrong thing? The only thing i see is TM (Time for missle impact?) or M with two numbers (i assume this is for TWS?... although i wasnt in TWS mode, it was shown when targeting one of the Su-23's in formation.)
-
This is the only reference i found about ARH being active... "Two seconds after launch, the missile’s active radar homing (ARH) seeker is switched on and Slammer will search for targets within its seeker’s field of view." This is under printed under visual mode page 83.

I just looked through the top 5 or 6 guys on 169th stats board. All with the exception of Taipan have used russian sticks as their weapon of choice. Pilotasso even knows to use the AIM7 more than the 120. Nice job Taipan. PM me with some tips! :-)

All my shots today were within Rtr near 300agl (definitely below 1000). I dont even think Rtr is further than 10 miles at that altitude. But thanks for the info, i'll keep it within the ASE longer from now on... By the way, i never run... i have other methods i use for evasion, which seem to be getting alot better. I almost had to pat myself on the back after seeing i dodged 11 missles in a less than 1 min timeframe from two bandits today...lol Although, i did see someone turn tail more than once today... ;) He still shot me down though...
-
I'd sure like to know what "properly" means. Im doing everything the book says to do. I've even read up through google searches for tactics. My 7's connect better than my 120's... plain fact for me.... Any tips you can give me Kenan? Short of telling me to hop in a MiG29S.... :)
-
Thanks Kula, thats a good idea. I used to have Cacheman when i had Win98. It wasnt that great. I still needed to reboot to get a really good cleaning of the cache. Gotta look into it for XP.
-
lol... its the only thing i can do to get my kills up. If i am able to rope them in a bit closer by using line of sight (or lack of) to my advantage... i'll usually get the kill if dogfighting. The 120 is a fire-and-forget (ARH) missle right? Its not like the aim7 where i need to keep the target box inside the ASE circle.. right? As long as the steering dot is centered with launch star when i launch the 120, it "should" find its target on its own.... correct?
-
lol.. funny you say that.. shooting "up". All my launches from today were from Nap of the earth flying... probably no higher than 300agl. Cant get much lower.... :-) Im usualy dodging R77's cause they launch with the range being higher than me... but im still able to center the steering dot and launch mine well within the Rtr. Still no hits.... but the 77 gets me probably 50% of the time... Anything else?
