  1. Agree with P1KW - same method here - it's so much better for it. Haukka, you mention the trimmer - I'm finding it seems to work as well with the UH-1 as it does with the Ka50. Very useful. I do intend tweaking at some stage, but think it's best to get used to a base set-up first, for comparison. The main issue for me (which may or may not be G940 specific) is the swinging that tends to occur when descending at near-hover. Strange behavior, that.
  2. I'm using the G940, too, though I have the pedals connected via the BU0836X controller module, rather than through the G940 stick. I have no curvature or dead zones for the stick and throttle but a quite large dead zone for the pedals. All are on 100% saturation. So far no issues at all with control (I tried a TM Warthog first and it was, well, wild). In fact I just made my first successful landing today, at the third attempt overall :) The difference between flying with the Warthog and the G940 was instantly very apparent. You just can't beat FFB for flying DCS helicopters. PS - forgot to mention, I don't use the Logitech software at all.
  3. I've cracked it! How? Simple - switched my Warthog HOTAS for my G940. Force Feedback roolz! :D Seriously - all over the joint with the TM job, not perfect, but controlled take-offs straight away with the G940, and smooth flight no problem. Didn't do anything to the axes except a large-ish dead zone for the pedals (which I found were reversed, too, making it that much more tricky). Yippee - was beginning to regret it, but now I'm all smiles again :D I did do a video of my first proper take-off, but it has recorded both my monitors (second one is blank) so don't think it will go on YT. (it did - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ_zlTlsLV0&feature=youtu.be ) Probably a good thing as I tried to fly under a bridge and guess what? Yup - it wouldn't fit! :P

    Countermeasures

I've been assigning my HOTAS to the controls in the Huey, and it struck me that there don't seem to be any flare or chaff dispensers. In 1985 I met two US Army WO's in Copenhagen whilst on a march and shoot competition and they were kind enough to show me around the Huey they'd flown in. I don't know if it was an 'H' or not, though, but they most definitely explained the use of 'countermeasures' in the form of at least chaff (can't remember if they mentioned flares) and some kind of basic RWR. It's the one thing I distinctly remember. I was saying how vulnerable they must feel on the battlefield and they showed me these systems and seemed very confident of their performance.
  5. I had a go at the start-up tutorial 'mission' earlier today. I had a problem with the very first action, because the little boxes used to highlight the switches were too opaque - I couldn't actually see the setting I was supposed to set the switch to. It was the same with some of the other switches, too. I got around it each time by simply clicking until the box disappeared and the next item came up.
  6. I did a complete reinstall of DCSW and all modules with v1.2.4. So far I have only tried the UH-1H and P-51D, but with both I get slideshow framerates. I can't say exactly how low the frames are - I was just looking for a quick test of each - but I used to have completely smooth TrackIR movement with all aircraft (except the Huey, of course) and now it stutters very badly in the VC. External view seems fine.
  7. Do fer me - certainly happy enough with it
  8. The sounds are great in that. I saw some discussion about this on another thread, but I think that sound is good. Unfortunately I had some issues with the reinstallation of DCSW yesterday (the Ka50 module - sorted now) so I didn't have time for flying. Hopefully get it up this evening (arf!). btw - just a little English help, if you say "not" then you have to use "either". So it would be "not using either..." if you want to say "neither" then you have to leave out the "not" as in: "using neither..." ;)
  9. That reminded me of the scene in BAT21 where Danny Glover steals the Huey to go and get Gene Hackman! All over the place! Just gotta transfer my 1.2.4 files from netbook to PC and I'll be up there, too.
  10. Not so bad - I've been on the torrent since 08:45 this morning and it just finished at 18:27! (dowloading all updated modules plus DCSW as it would have taken 4 days using the game updater at the rate it was going) That's over 9 and a half hours! Now off to fly my ooey :D
  11. I've not heard anything that sounds like the UH-1s I have heard - some of them come close, but it just depends on which direction the helicopter is from you, how close, it's altitude, speed etc etc. There are so many differences and they can be absolutely huge with this aircraft. For example - I'd seen many flying around in the 70's (in West Germany) and they sounded pretty much like they do in places on some of the videos. But one sound I have never heard on a video was what I would hear when one was approaching me directly overhead, at a couple of hundred feet. An incredible whup-whup sound that was like nothing I had heard before or have heard since. It sounded like someone was trying to beat the atmosphere on your head about twice a second - absolutely awesome. The first time I experienced that, I was really wondering what the hell was happening. I thought it was an aircraft, but as it was like nothing I had ever heard before, I wasn't sure. I was surrounded by trees and there was this massive whup-whup at incredible volume, getting louder and louder. Finally, a white and green Bundes Polizei Iroquios (as I called it then) came from behind the trees at low speed & altitude - and the funny thing was that once it was directly overhead, it was really quiet - just a slight mechanical whistling type of sound - and as it receded towards the airfield, it sounded just like any other helicopter of the time, with just the occasional louder whup (but not as loud as when it was approaching). Amazing. Edit - I just played the OP video linked to and it does sound similar at times. Not heard it sound as similar in any of the DCS vids I've seen thus far.
  12. Yes, it's definitely more pronounced the lower the altitude viewed from.
  13. I am about to buy one to supplement my G940 and would have been interested, but paying £250 for a used one, with no comebacks if something goes wrong when I can have a new one with full warranty for £280 would not be a good option. If they were all £350 like the ones on Amazon that again, would be another story. Something to think about, maybe? ;)
  14. A track of that flight isn't possible, as it was just me test flying after the start-up training mission, for which tracks aren't offered to save. I'll see if it comes up during a regular mission, though. This was just by Kobuleti - took off from Batumi iirc and flew round the valleys, then came out to do some circuits at Kobuleti. That's just before I crashed - after the tank ran dry and I was too late switching and couldn't hot-start her despite many attempts :( Glides extremely well, mind.
  15. How can it reflect the land from that far out to sea? Still shouldn't happen. - especially when the surface of the sea itself isn't visible as in the 1st and 3rd pics - only the 'reflections' if that's what they are supposed to be.
  16. Don't know if this is known - found nothing on forums via search. Sea for yourselves (pun intended :D ) - screen size reduced: Don't recall seeing it before (at least not recently) - it is the sea, and it doesn't improve until I'm practically over it. No other graphics issues and framerates well within acceptable range with medium settings and powerful PC with GTX560Ti vga.
  17. No, it wasn't the 'rabbit caught in headlights' syndrome or target fixation - I was egressing aggressively but rolled the aircraft far more than I should for that peek (it was my last missile and time was short - I know I shouldn't do it, but two of my four missiles had just missed their targets and I was desperate!), hence zero recovery time and ejecting into my grave when the brown stuff hit  btw - I was the only bloke in my troop who ever hit the target with a grenade (or got the Molotov in the tank hatch) :P
  18. I went out for a spin in the FC3 Su-25 today after upgrading to 1.23 I flew the Tskhinvali Interdiction mission (great for AG practice). I did end up getting shot down - probably because of trying to spot if my rounds had hit the T-80 target. I half-rolled the 'plane to get a good view out of the cockpit to the ground (would be so much better if we had 6DOF in the Su-25, ED :smilewink: though I think that is coming at some point) . All of a sudden and with no warning my ride fell to pieces and I augered in. Very embarassing. Ejected straight into the deck  On checking the 'score sheet' the only hit on my aircraft was from a BTR-80, over two minutes before my demise - which I had heard as it hit the aircraft, but not experienced any negative effects. So it must have done some damage and that must have worsened as I continued the attack. Or else whatever hit me wasn't logged? I just can't remember reading of this kind of thing before - something tells me I have, but I've never experienced it myself before. Do we have accumulatiing damage from a single hit in FC3?
