And here's a little statistic. As of now the target only needs just $12,000, it has already reached 88% at the halfway stage. I think the target will be achieved but you know, there are 700+ backers in the $40 - $60 range. It would take 200 of those to upgrade to $110 to cross the line which I know won't happen but I think some will upgrade to some other level making the target easier to reach. Also the closer it gets to looking successful the more backers we may see and the 100 $10 - $20 backers may be encouraged to up their backing now. Did you pledge $100? For another $10 you can be in on the Alpha :) OK, so I was never a salesman but......

So negative. I think this is a clever collaboration in which both DCS and RRG are making their own commitments with a combination of existing aircraft from DCS, existing experience/contacts from RRG and new terrain and aircraft from both. It might be a good idea to re-read Ilya's launch and updates more closely. DCS are taking care of the new EDGE Terrain and the kickstarter is to support RRG's contribution to the project including new aircraft. AFAIK Mr Maddox is not heading quality control. He is on-board as an advisor and no doubt to add weight through his name, his experience and his outstanding (for the time) long-running IL-2 series which was ahead of its rivals including the FMs at the time. By today's standards the FMs would need to be improved and that will be the case. Ilya said that DCS would maintain a watching brief on quality so that it reflects the standards of the excellent DCSWorld.

Ah, ok, sounds like they are 3rd party. I thought they were wholly owned by DCS and that DCS have a stake in WWII.

Hey Luthier, how about this for an idea (if DCS will play). Kickstarter could do with a shove and perhaps, when it hits target and gets off the ground, if $100+ backers immediately get a free download of the $40 DCSW P51D, which they are eventually going to get free anyway, they can play with it in DCSW so they can start to get an idea of what it will be like and start to build a player community (DCSW is free to download in its basic form). That might push up the $100 backer numbers. There are atm about 600 backers below $100, 400 in the $40 bracket. Lets say 50% 'upgrade', that's another $12,000 in the $40, $2,000 in the $50 and $500 in the $75. Total $14,500, a useful boost equal to 360 more $40 backers. I don't think you could push it to the $200 backer level but moving up from a $40 to a $100 backer is really going to help the project and the extra $60 backing gets you immediate access to a DSCW/DCS WWII aircraft. The $50/$75 backers would win hands down. I guess some people will see that as 'buying the P51D' when $40+ will eventually get it free anyway but I see it as incentive to up the backing and get a 12 month head start on DCS WWII with the DCSW P51D.

Good starting point, stretch it south to Normandy and west to Cologne. Easy.

Luthier can I pick up on a couple of points? Why do you want to model individual trees? Why not forest and hedgerow blocks, like single objects? I suppose one answer might be to allow vehicles to travel through forests but are we really interested in that? The Ardennes aside (January 1945) where you could perhaps use trees or clumps of trees, I don't see the need for them in an air combat simulator. Surely the compromise should be in ground vehicle operations rather than flight aspects. As the Normandy area is so small it will really only lend itself to dog-fighting and small scale AI bombing missions. You might increase interest considerably by dragging out the map with low generic detail to include England to the Midlands with generic AI bomber and generic fighter airfields plus a stretch across to Antwerp, Dortmund, south to Strasbourg, West to Rennes and with a few generic targets for the B-17s such as Dortmund, Cologne, Rheims, Trappes (Paris). This would allow longer range missions for bombers at high altitude and the high alt escorts and intercepts that the Mustangs and 109Ks were meant for. In the initial release, who cares about ground detail at 30,000 feet?

The proposed Spitfire MkIX is a Merlin SPit. The MkXIV had the Gryphon (and other Mks of course).

ermmm.... I think you meant this link? http://www.alan-grey-page.cz/category/dcs-wwii-europe-1944/ The other one, and Luthier, is the wrong sim, this thread about the new DCS / Ilya Shevchenko DCS WWII sim. But your support for DCS WWII is most welcome :)
-
Not to drag out the OT but its an excellent book and takes you all the way through the B-17 mission experience.
-
Excellent news Luthier! Thanks Just have to suppress our patience - or impatience. :) Just to be clear, although I suspect the P-51 will be in the initial package, if it weren't would we be able to use our DCSW P51D or is it a complete re-vamp of the existing one? In fact that question applies to all DCSW aircraft.

Yes, I did those but both the direct d/l and Torrent were agonisingly slow. The Torrent told me there were only something like 1.5 seeds (I don't know how that is measured). Anyway the Torrent eventually got there first after many many hours so I cancelled the direct d/l which still had hours to go. Unfortunately I then hit the problem others have reported, it won't install over a previous version and tells you to uninstall it. Now I am very PC savvy but bearing in mind many people aren't it leads on to questions for us all (and some may not even think about these): Will I lose all of my carefully set up controls for each different aircraft. Do I need to back them up? Where are they? Where should I keep them? Is there anything else I need to protect, after all Uninstall is Uninstall? So this is another update issue that ED might like to think about. Perhaps the uninstall process preserves config files, I never took it that far because that concern made me try the autoupdater again (about day 4 now) and this time it came down at about 150Kb/s so I let it run. Unfortunately (again) the auto-update seemed to replace all controls settings anyway, putting them back to stock setups in newly named files so at least I was able to copy back the old ones. I've made backups as well now. Now, those new file names contained bracketed elements like Saitek X52 Pro Flight Controller {3C386280-AFF6-11e2-8003-444553540000}.lua and those brackets were the difference between the filenames that left my old ones intact. I did have reason to disconnect/reconnect all my controls before the update which may have led to them being re-identified by DCS (it didn't affect any other sim) and that may have been what saved the old values files. Perhaps they wouldn't have been replaced if the IDs had remained the same. Perhaps they would have been overwritten regardless. Anyway, all in all, not my best update experience :( But the FW190 (what this has all been about for me) looks useful. Roll on the flyable version. :)

I understand that now and it quickly became clear early on in this thread but in my humble opinion it really isn't good enough to keep several thousand (?) customers hanging on a download service that, individually, is little better than the old 56k dial up service. It won't do their reputation any good. They need to add some temporary mirror sites and given the explained standing of the company it could be done with the help of community members who are in a position to do so, as happens in some other game forums. I know its not the end of the world and if things stay the same I'll just have to wait several days before trying to download in future but it's not good is it?

Kameni, you need to read people's posts before you make assumptions, jump to conclusions and take it upon yourself to be the self-appointed White Knight of ED. First of all I didn't call anyone names and I wouldn't need your permission to do so if I did. I did complain about ED's download service and for good reason. I have not come with the attitude "nothing works, everything is crap" in fact if you bother to read my post again you'll see have respect for EDs product so don't invent reasons to pump yourself up. To use your own simpering words I have not been "hateful to hard-working people", I have simply complained about their download service. I did not demand perfection and you have no case to rest because it's none of your business. My complaint was with ED not you and that didn't take many words to express. In case you haven't noticed, most of my words have been a response to your self righteous presumption to speak for ED and I'm not going to waste any more time on you. You need to read posts more carefully, show a little maturity and get over yourself.

Kameni, Let me start by saying I have every respect for DCSW and respect for the abilities of the company that produced it. My irritation is that, given their customer base, their server seems to be inadequate. 0.5KB/s? 20-30KB/s for a couple of days? Are they serious? Have they no mirror sites? Who says that nobody has the right to blame ED for their server capability? And how am I "ungrateful"? Do I owe them some great favour? Let me say it again, my disappointment is with their server not the company in general which has produced a good sim. On the other hand...... I know nothing about ED's business or whether they are rich or living on the edge. I simply responded to their advertising, downloaded their sim and bought their add-ons. Incidentally I saw somewhere there have been over a million downloads? So I imagine their business, with the add-ons, is going along just fine. They present themselves professionally (in all other matters) which entitles me to think they are on top of their game. As for "should cost a minimum $100" I have literally a dozen flight simulators on my shelf gathered over the years and each one released when they were cutting edge. I have one or two that are every bit as good as DCS. Most of them contained many different aircraft and none of them cost more than $50. On the other hand I have a freely downloaded DCS but every single aircraft I want will cost me $40 or so (which I am actually happy to go along with) so ED will get there "minimum $100" out of me in the long run if they continue to create good aircraft. Are you an appointed spokesman for ED? Do you think for some reason you have the right to declare who is a bad or unfair customer? Would ED even agree with you? What do I know about "fighting legal problems", past "selfish people" and "pulling off a miracle"? I am simply being what they want me to be, a Customer. You on the other hand are clearly emotionally involved with the history and seem to think every ED Customer should carry the same cross. As for calling us "b*tches", watch your mouth. You are presumptuous and arrogant to think you have the right to tell me who I am, whether or not I have the right to complain and what I must accept from my supplier.

Desperate for help with DCS World 1.2.4!!
klem replied to ozTRipwiRE's topic in Installation Problems
On the left hand side of the menu screen about hafway down you will see a small arrow head. Click on it to open that message box and find the updater link. Then hold your breath, the updater is operating at about 10-50KB/s and may take hours or days to complete. -
Some of the replies here astonish me. Someone complains that the update service is poor and he gets slated for it. I am sitting here waiting for the update download to finish at 0.5KB/s. Its my third attempt. I also tried a direct download with similar results and a predicted 3 day download time. It's ridiculous. "Parents"? "Kid's wishes"? This is business not some family spat. The fact is that this update process is pathetic. Download the whole thing and re-install? Are you mad? Why should I need to do that and why would that download be any faster? ED need to sort out their update server. And no, my BB isn't playing up, I have over 60Mb download speed tested just a few moments ago. Oh, wait a minute it just kicked up to 1.3KB/S. Only a couple of days to go.

Longterm online air combat propeller-head now learning the FC3 F-15C in DCS World and looking for guys to fly and learn with on Friday evenings but can also manage ad-hoc other times (not Wed or Sunday evenings). I'm getting to grips with the weapons but usually lose out in these long range stand-offs. Need a wingman to learn from and have fun. Most of the on-line Squads I've seen don't fly the F-15C.

Me too. Longterm online air combat propeller-head now learning the FC3 F-15C in DCS World and looking for guys to fly and learn with on Friday evenings but can also manage ad-hoc other times (not Wed or Sunday evenings).

ALSO for HocusPocus I deleted the saved games and Mods files for FC3, re-installed and the radar controls (azimuth. elevation) are there now. I had previously enabled all AI aircraft as flyable (waste of time really as all are external views) and I think I must have confused the installation :( Sorry to waste your time.

Hi Ironhand. I have DCS and FC3 (over Lockon Gold). I only use DCS but I'm new to DCS and the FC3 F-15C in particular. I've been watching your videos (nice and clear btw) and hit problems immediately. Just on basic operation, I turn on radar (I), Select 2 and nothing happens on weapons selection screen but it does respond to weapon select (D). Also I try Shift + ; and Shift + . to change cone elevation and again nothing happens. Same with Azimuth Ctrl + + and Ctrl + - Also I get no HUD response when selecting the 120 (no 'Visual' circle). For the ineffective keys I cannot find a setting in DCS Controls for the F-15C. Am I missing something? EDIT: SOLVED - see 2 posts below

Lock on Gold to Lock on Flaming cliffs 2
klem replied to tonyuk's topic in Lock On v.1.0x and Flaming Cliffs v.1.1x
Many thanks Steve, a nice clear reply :) Its what I would have expected but you know how things sometimes go. I have an account, I bought DCS and the P51D. Now, I wonder what the chances are of an FC3 discount sale like ED just ran on the DCS planes (ahem, just two weeks after I paid the full price for the P51D!). I downloaded and nearly bought the discounted A-10C when I fell over the FC3 stuff and remembered I had LO. What I was really looking for was a combat jet in DCS with a HUD with English symbology :) I had seen F15s flying around DCS on line and I had wondered how they did that. Now I know. I'm really a propeller head but I liked the F-16 in Falcon4 and the F15 seems to be the next best thing. OK, so next month I'll get FC3. Thanks again Steve. EDIT: The LO joystick settings were a not working with my X52-Pro because buttons 32/33 kept hogging any X52 button assignments I tried to make. Would you know if that is the case in FC3? DCS is ok. -
Lock on Gold to Lock on Flaming cliffs 2
klem replied to tonyuk's topic in Lock On v.1.0x and Flaming Cliffs v.1.1x
Guys, I have Lock-on Gold (LOG) and DCS (plus P51D). Just to be clear can I get answers to the following: 1. I believe I have to install DCS (done) and then LOG disc 1 (done) before I can use FC3 (which I haven't bought yet). Yes? 2. I cannot see any LOG content (A10) in DCS. Is this correct? 3. Ref 2, is there a way I can get to LOG A10 from DCS? 4. LOG is a 32bit app in Program Files (x86). Is that where FC3 will go? 5. Do I need to buy anything more than FC3 to be able to use FC3 with DCS? 5. Will DCS automatically see and use FC3 aircraft or do I have to do some kind of integration of the two (DCS and FC3)? 6. Will I need to keep the LOG disc in the DVD drive while using FC3 aircraft in DCS? 7. Can I uninstall LOG and leave only FC3 installed for it to work with DCS? 8. I like to fly in the DCS servers. Would I fly FC3 aircraft on-line through DCS or would I need to run FC3 instead? 9. If answer to 8 is 'you will need to run FC3' will I see the same DCS servers as I see in DCS?
