Ref sounds, although it's obvious to most of you, what you hear at airshows isn't what you hear in the cockpit (DB605's first video makes that clear) and what you hear inside your pilots headphones (presumably that's what we're being given?) is different again. Any chance of slipping a microphone inside that guy's headphones? :)

Hi whartsell, did you get anywhere with this? I may be able to contribute graphics (I made instruments in FSX and Cliffs of Dover) but I don't know how they are coded in DCS. I don't know how to create a Helios P-51D interface :( I have time and I am willing to learn but I need some guidance or perhaps templates to plagiarise.

Start DCSW Select Options Select Controls Tab Select FW190 Read down list of controls/keys (clue: W is near the bottom) Set keys if none already set $5 please :)

A bit late to the party but... all of them. I guess the P51-D sits low because many people will already have bought it, as I did. I gave my key to a friend.

Adjusting the Fw190 aileron trim tab...
klem replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Well it was physically measurable by the ground crew against some kind of reference, e.g. perhaps the under-surface of the wing, and they may well have adjusted it by experience, trial and error to some degree. Yo-Yo could set it at what he believes to be a median and adjustments around that made in the cockpit but only on the ground, within a sensible range. Doesn't need an in-cockpit control, just key settings and doesn't need to be animated. -
Nvidia release MFAA - will DCS support it?
klem replied to klem's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I didn't realise DCS could run in 3D - not that I would use it. I would be interested to see anything you have, screenshots, advice etc regarding turning it on in Inspector just in case Nvidia have only 'allowed us' to see the Nvidia supported/verified games but there could in fact be a user capability to turn it on for other games. -
Nvidia release MFAA - will DCS support it?
klem replied to klem's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No option for this in Inspector The option exists in nvCP and it has a reference list of games that support it. DCS isn't on it and I assume it calls for some kind of change within DCS for it to work and get listed (perhaps EDGE?). In nvCP unsupported games give a greyed out "Not supported for this application". -
We did. The ghost of OM past. He set the standard for delays :)

I hope this is the right place for this. Nvidia just released 344.75 drivers which includes a new AA facility called MFAA. It has much lower impact than traditional AA methods:- http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/technology/mfaa http://www.anandtech.com/show/8734/nvidia-34475-drivers-mfaa-arrives-for-maxwell Only 20 games support this so far (not DCS). Will DCS be supporting it?

Nvidia latest driver FUBARED multi-screen?
klem replied to AtaliaA1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No problems here apart from a failed Active adaptor but the 980 is still ok, I had to disconnect my fourth utility monitor. 344.75 out today. Presumably they are playing catchup on games support. -
Yes, under Module Manager it invites you to get it but it comes back after a few operations saying "Unknown Module BF109K-4". However, having tried it once, Module Manager no longer offers me the option, it just displays the 109K-4 as before with no pop-up to get it. :music_whistling: ......:smoke:........ :drunk: ....... ..............

For the Mustang I can only point you to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/508681281/dcs-wwii-europe-1944/posts/610190 "By March, I finally heard from Nick [Grey, Flying Legends] over Skype "That's a Mustang! Don't touch anything!" That was the end of the probably most important aircraft development process I've done. Development and tuning." and http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=111388 "you will not get much closer, unless your in my airplane" so I guess it's fairly close to the mark. FW190D-9? How about this... Unfortunately no specific words on ground handling/takeoff/landing.

Not wrong - just "Random". :megalol: ...and which Mark of PRU?... Which Engine? ... What mission value?...

Adjusting the Fw190 aileron trim tab...
klem replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Hi Yo-Yo I can't find a setting under Options in 1.2.11.34087 Are you simply changing the default value in FMOptions.lua In which case can it be made an Options... Controls... Trim-Tab value? Many guys won't be comfortable with finding and editing the file. Or better still could it be done in-game? For example, could it be a keyboard value only settable on the ground? e.g. Shift+Ctrl+Alt+[0....9]. Zero setting value = 4 or 5. No need for model animation. and... ALMOST on Topic :) Can we please have this on the Spitfire Ailerons? And any other 'Ground Crew' trims in future? -
Flaps in a cross wind makes the DCS Mustang more difficult, perhaps so with the Dora. No need to use full power on takeoff though, less power/torque may help. Taking off in the Dora with a 500Kg bomb - now that's a handful!
-
BUMP! I actually read all 30 pages with its usual mixture of common sense, fact, OT and drivel and am still none the wiser. YoYo?? What are we getting?

I know this is a very old thread but it seems the most appropriate place for K-14 matters (I hate having to search multiple threads for answers on the same subject). For us old-time seat-of-the-pants guys who spurn the Gyro sight in favour of a fixed sight, this may be of interest. Some of us prefer to use the fixed rather than Gyro, for one thing the Gyro often disappears with high deflection shots which we feel we can judge for ourselves, and make, anyway. Also it's easy to get distracted by 'chasing' the Gyro. So, here are some thoughts. All dimensions are given in Imperial units as we are flying an American a/c. A few facts: The P-51D guns are set to a convergence pattern at 1000 feet (333yds/305m) and cannot be changed (you are flying a standard issue a/c) The circle of the fixed gunsight is 70 mils (milli-radians) or 4 degrees, therefore at 1000 feet range the fixed circle represents the size of an object (e.g. wingspan) 70 feet across. 70 feet is a typical twin engined WWII bomber. A FW190D-9 is 34 feet wingspan so when it occupies half the width of the ring you are at convergence. The fixed sight ring is just that, it is fixed in size. This is not very helpful for A-A combat where it would be nice to have a reticule size matched to the target for range guidance. To use an accurate fixed sight you need to be able to set the correct range and target wingspan. The Range setting should be guns convergence range for maximum effect. The Range dial is graduated in Feet (6 = 600 ft = 200 yds). The other scale on the 'back' of the Ranging dial is in Yards, i.e. 2 = 200 yards, 8 = 800 yards and corresponds exactly to the Feet scale (min 6 = 600 feet = 200 yards, max 24 = 2400 = 800 yards), it's just that I haven't worked out yet how re-adjust that dial to use the yards scale (i.e. rotate it to the front). Perhaps we can't. Maybe it was a Ground Crew option for us Limeys :) So, to use a re-sizeable fixed reticule: To do this the electrical power must be on and the gyro must be stable and centred - it's possible in flight but easier on the ground. 1. Set the sight range to 10 (= 10 x 100 = 1000 ft = convergence range). 2. Set Gyro motor to Off - set the switch between the Gunsight Mode and Gunsight Dimmer to Off (UP). 3. Turn Gunsight Mode switch to 'Gyro + Fixed' (both fixed sight and Gyro diamonds On). 4. Pull down 'Fixed Reticle Mask Lever' on left hand side of sight about level with the 120 wingspan reading - the fixed gunsight circle and G/A indicator disappear. You now have the Gyro diamonds which will not move around (Gyro motor is off) but can be adjusted for target wingspan at 1000ft range. The Diamond inner points enclose the target wingspan at the set sight range. Now just lead ("leed") the target using your experience :) Incidentally, another explanation of using the moving Gyro sight is here: http://www.lonesentry.com/blog/k-14-gunsight.html

For a laptop upgrade, yes. If upgrading from a much lower spec consider power requirements and CPU capability too.

Apologies all. My ISP Spam bucket was being auto-cleared too quickly for me to see that the posts were being trapped as Spam. All fixed now. -
Hi gdx65 First of all I have seen posts around from a handful of guys running the 980 without the problems you had and I'm sorry to hear you have them. I'm too long in the tooth to start defending a piece of kit just because it's new and I bought it but I haven't had any problems that I can attribute to the 980 except for a 'watermark' over the DCS sea, the like of which I don't get in Cliffs of Dover or FSX: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=132943 I don't recall getting it with my old GTX570. I suspect it is only to do with DCS and look forward to the new EDGE engine in the hope it clears it up. My PC knowledge is only 'self taught' over nearly twenty years (including building several rigs) so I can't give you a specific technical solution but it sounds to me like a defect in the Hardware/SW, perhaps a conflict or timing issue. I know when I used the pre-set overclock settings for my i7 950 "3.06 overclocked to 4.2GHz" Scan 3XS system I hit timing issues and a few BSDs after several months but I just throttled it back to 3.6GHz and it seems ok. I could have tweaked voltages or something but I wasn't comfortable with the core temps when running FSX anyway. I don't know where you are situated but for a new rig in the UK I'd recommend talking to scan.co.uk, I've used them for years. Very helpful and supportive. Of course your 980 could have been defective and throwing a wobbly. I am running the 344.48 drivers. I am running a Corsair 750W PSU which is more than enough. I don't know what power the 4790K pulls but I doubt it's that much more. I am attaching two images. One shows CPU usage and the other the GPU usage while running the FW190 out of Batumi (to set the scene). CPU: You can see that DCS uses all four cores but not all eight threads. The small amount of activity on threads 2,4,6 and 8 are probably background processes. Well, maybe a little of DCS somehow. The drop off in memory usage is where I exited the game. The CPU spikes may be where I exited the aircraft back to menu. Still, you can see how little CPU is used, averaging less than 40%. In the Core Temp part the core Temperatures ('High') hit about 80C max. 'Low' is before I started DCS. Don't be misled by the Load of only 4% on core 1, that is when I was out of DCS and taking the screen shot of the results. GPU, Left side: It runs about 80% Power, max 99% usage (I am running 5250 x 2100 res, 3 screens over 1), max 2420GB Memory (a big surprise to me!), Fan max 51%. Right hand side: Clock hit 1353MHz from a standing start of 999, Temperature max 81C (Desktop is around 50C), Voltage went from 1.012 to 1.218, Fan peaked at 1325 rpm from Desktop 1284. In short, apart from limiting to around 30-40 fps across 5250x2100 it is very comfortable in DCSW. I have all on High settings except CIV TRAFFIC off, Clutter 820, Trees 900, Preload Radius 150000, all checkboxes off except Vsync and Cockpit shadows. I expect I could get more fps if I tweaked the settings but I will wait until I get new 1920x1080x monitors and run 5760x2160. And if anyone has any tips on that please tell me :) The GTX980 is clearly a beast! PS: if you have the money go straight for the 980, I wouldn't bother with a 700 series if you can afford it. Less power, runs cooler, similar price to the 780Ti and outperforms all other GPUs available atm. Or get the 970 of course. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the attachments. Done now.

Bring it on... ermmmm when?

I did have graphics on medium due to my high resolution but I switched everything to High (fps still > 30 all the way!) and if anything it made it worse, A larger more extensive effect, about x2 on what I saw before. I tried to take a screenshot but it froze the graphics until I hit PrtScr again and there was nothing on the clipboard. Actually I think I hit Alt+PrtScr so that may have caused it. But the problem remains even on max settings.

Fix: adding a custom resolution to in-game options.
klem replied to PeterP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I found optionsData.lua under the various Mods aircraft folders: Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\[P-51D**]\aircraft\Options\ **or other a/c you have but it only contains brief information: ==================== cdata = { P51D = _('P-51D'), AUTO_RUDDER = _('AUTO RUDDER'), TAKE_OFF = _('TAKE-OFF ASSISTANCE') } ==================== There is also one in: Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\CoreMods\WWII Units\Options\ (perhaps because I got the Kickstarter P-51D ?) containing: ============== -- default values defaults = { altTrimmingMethod = { __value__ = false, control = 'check', --hidden = true, }, } function init(a_lang, a_env) if (a_lang == 'ru') then end end ============== but none of those offer the options you are looking for. I assume that the resolution you are looking for doesn't exist under [Desktop right click]... Screen Resolution options, if it does it should show up. If it doesn;t perhaps you could create a custom resolution in there?
