We're a bit OT I know but where did you learn that G00dnight? I'm waiting for Alpha and FW190 too. -

Seriously guys, he made it clear. Keep this forum email and email them to have your Kickstarter email changed. -
Backer Rewards Section is Finally Here

Send an email to dcswwii@eagle.ru and tell them whatever you can about your Kickstarter account and backing including the email address you used to open it. Explain the problem. If they can verify your closed account they may be able to re-open it. -
Backer Rewards Section is Finally Here

from Update #32 it seems you need to synchronise all emails to your ED forum email address so you may want to go back over what you changed. Moving the ED forum email away from what it was may blind the system. -
Pledged $85. I should have got a P-51 key?
klem replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
You may want to read Kickstarter update #30 in which he explains he is close to finishing that Rewards database. It was apparently a nightmare combining Kickstarter records with Paypal records and that caused the delay. -

True, but this was warned in update #11 and Paypal backers made that choice. I believe you can see Kickstarter updates but in any case those that can are able to post them in this forum if they wish (someone has posted #31). Also, knowing that Paypal backers may never be able to comment on Kickstarter it would be a much more positive approach for one of those that can to post the questions in Kickstarter. There seem to be enough guys here who are keen to represent backer's views. -

Actually (bongodriver), I might say No. The current atmosphere from the forum members that have contributed might make me think "why bother". Back OT, Ilya is communicating with us, on Kickstarter. It might be nice for some forum members if he came here and repeated what he has already said on Kickstarter but I would rather he spent his time on develpment than duplicating his efforts. And for now the same goes for spending money on a Publicity Manager. And, again, why do some people insist on posting questions here when by there own admission he does not seem to come here (for whatever reason), why don't they just go to Kickstarter and post their questions there where all the backers can see their concerns. It might actually get them some stronger backing, in the right place. In here we are just a small pool of backers just shouting into the wind. Anyway let's just look at those five questions: -why is it not possible to give a lifesign at least once a week to at least show the community and supporters, that you are still there/alive? where is the communication you promised.not the monologue like iregular updates we have seen so far, but actual interaction with the community. He gives a lifesign on Kickstarter on a reasonably regular basis and when there is something to say. I'm not interested in updates that say "see last week". Regular, Honest communication as promised is all we want.Community Manager hire? (if there is nobody yet, i would vote for Sithspawn, as he is already trying to do his job) What is there to communicate beyond the progress (and problems) he is experiencing and reporting on Kickstarter. There is nothing for us to test/review/discuss yet. - The logo design contest - results? OK I'll give you that one. A real dealbreaker but yes it should be done. Maybe he didn't like any of them. -Can I get a confirmation email on my paypal contribution to the kickstarter? I don't understand the question. Every single purchase I have made with Paypal gets me a confirmation from Paypal but never from the supplier. -Is there a status on the "Black out" that prevented all development images? (Edit by SiThSpAwN) I dont think this is an issue as we saw screenshots in the latest update. Missing P-51 Keys that should have been sent out already? I believe that is linked to the Paypal issue and the problems associating them with/into Kickstarter accounts. It's a pain but he is aware. From what I am reading I don't think many people are affected. Remember guys, you didn't buy anything. You invested in a new project and investments come with unpredictable programmes, outcomes, risks and sometimes worse but we are nowhere near that far down the road. Do you really think he is sitting there with our money, rubbing his hands and saying 'what a bunch of shmucks'? -

SiThSpAwN I know this is an ED forum and you might expect Ilya to come here but it seems at the moment his chosen route for communication is the Kickstarter reports where any comments or questions can be put. This makes sense because it is likely that many of the 2,500 backers may never have heard of, or at the moment be interested in, this forum. It is, after all, still a Kickstarter project whereas these forums are more likely to be used by ED game owners and this game is not released yet. We may have the use here of a forum specially set up for us to discuss and exchange ideas but it would be pretty arrogant of us to expect all of the 2,500 Kickstarter backers to come here for answers. For many backers Kickstarter will be the only place for communication. I am not sure of your role (obviously you're moderating under the forum rules) but if you are also representing the forum to RRG (you mentioned a NDA agreement) perhaps you could post these questions in Kickstareter or pass them to Ilya personally. Of course that would probably put you in the position of ED forums 'publications manager'. -

Is there some reason why my post was deleted? -
+1 Only 6 months in and the "are we there yet" brigade have already started.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)

You could try breaking the problem down and start with, say, just the three main screens. -

klem replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Hmmm I'm a bit new to this but... your total Windows screen resolution is 1600+1280+1600+800 = 5280 wide and 600 + 600 = 1200 high. I think from there you need to reconsider your x, y, height and width dimensions for each screen. Center x = 0, y = 0, height = 900 leaving a 104 pixel blank bar at the bottom of the middle (1204) of the three screens and width = 4480. ======================= EDIT: deleted this bit because I am stupid. ======================= Not sure about aspect, try 4480/900? No idea about the K-50 question (I'm strictly a propeller-head) but it seems likely you'll need a different profile to call the different names. -

EDIT - fixed it! Sorry, I found half an answer in this Thread and have managed to sort it out. See attached screenshot, I inserted a black separator to represent the monitor bezels. .lua content below -

I already have two mionitors on extended desktop which I use in other sims. I understand the .lua method of placing Viewports in additional screens but where do I find the names of any P51D Viewports or is there some other method of creating a P51D instrument panel for my second monitor (it's stacked below the main monitor). -

I agree that communication could be more regular although there is the risk that with progress at this stage it will just give oxygen to the naysayers. For me one of the most dangerous aspects is the risk of this forum descending into the Banana forum mentality where speculation was piled on speculation and, among some posters, poison was piled upon poison. We all know what happened and I suspect the negative and at times vicious attitudes of some community members added some encouragement to closing that 'other' program down. It's too early to be so pessimistic, Luthier has explained the unexpected differences in how DCS go about, for instance, cockpit build and instrumentation. This isn't just some upgrade he's embarking upon. -
My mistake, that was a very expensive website I saw. Yes, generally around £125 which would make it really worth paying even £150 for one with Hall sensors.
-
And if you are going to pay $350/£300 (which is how X65 is priced) for a potentiometer HOTAS why not go the whole hog pay $380/£330 for one with Hall Sensors? Even the X52Pro is £250 here in the UK. I'd pay £280 for a new X52 with all Hall sensors.
-
Absolutely. What a missed opportunity. All axes should be Hall sensors these days, its not as of they are expensive any more but the HOTAS will be as they try to recoup the major cost - development. Alongside that the cost of Hall sensors is petty. And no FFB? This product is supposed to be aimed at the keen simmer! You can argue about whether FFB is what the market is looking for but potentiometers? I am deeply disappointed. Their design team is ten years out of date.
-
Well that would be nice. I never used a FF stick before and I worried that the pressures around the centre point would be heavy but that Saitek stick looked like only small forces are needed at the centre which again would be nice. Here's hoping.......
-
What we really need the X55 to be is an all-Hall sensor HOTAS with all-metal construction (at least internally) and reliable force-feedback. Looking at that shadowy video I think we can forget the FF as it does seem to have the Saitek spring centreing system. With Saitek you get what you pay for, a reasonable quality HOTAS, a fully operational life of around 3 to 5 years but unlike the old days, NO support worth mentioning. I had the X36, the X45 and now the X52Pro (for about 8 years now I think). Once upon a time you could get spares from Saitek, things like pots etc., but now you can't. Also the Pots on the X52 Pro throttle rotaries are tiny flat devices and I never have found a suitable replacement. If you send it to Madcatz I think they can fix them but when I checked some time ago it didn't seem cost effective, you may as well buy a new unit because if one pot has failed the next one may do quite soon, depending on how much you use it. And that is now the problem with Saitek, its a buy-and-throw marketing approach. I have done the Saitek X52Pro magnet mod and the springs are so weak around the centre now that I can make very fine accurate adjustments around the centre with very little pressure and actually I am very happy with that. But, I have a noisy lower X52 throttle pot which I can't replace. I have put my old X45 alongside it for RPM (throttle), elevator trim (lower rotary) and aileron trim (upper rotary) and if they go I can get replacement traditional pots. I'm just waiting for the X52 upper rotary (rudder trim) to go although I have soaked it in contact cleaner. If I could afford CH I'd buy it but I also have been told its advisable to modify them with metal internals and they aren't Hall Sensor. Frankly, there's no excuse for anyone selling a joystick at £50/$80 plus not to have Hall sensors, even of it means a couple of pounds/dollars on the price. They are cheap as chips now. We should simply refuse to buy one that doesn't have them. EDIT: @Flanker, I don't think there is any more info than that video attempt to get us inquisitive. Unfortunately there's so little to be seen in the video they may as well not have bothered, a simple News banner would have done the same job.
-
OK, thanks for the info.
-
Well it seems to me the $1 backers won't get the game free as the higher backers will and I wonder what they can do with the SDK if they don't have Alpha access. Mind you there's a lot I don't understand yet. Luthier, I once did some work in FSX where I used G-max (its free) for 3D objects like buildings. Would a full package like 3DS Max be necessary (it's not free)?
-
I think the $150 may not be achieved and would like to suggest an intermediate stretch goal. If we can't get to $150 how much would it cost to extend the map NW and just have a bare "langoliers terrain" terrain for Southern England. $120 goal? At least then we could make air spawns for AI B-17s and manned escorts, picking up on more historical B-17 missions after takeoff and form-up and allowing a manned escort rendezvous over S. England. Think about it, the $100k initial release is entirely post-D-Day (only a Normandy map) with all major pre-D-Day bombing objectives achieved and only, historically, minimal air fighting plus ground attack. It would be ridiculous to start a B-17 pre-D-Day bombing mission from Normandy. The scope of the initial release would be immensely increased by adding in potential for "UK-based" pre-D-Day missions with more P51D and FW190 opportunities for historical and widespread use on at least targets in France like Railways, military centres etc.. EDIT: If anyone feels that "it's only supposed to be Normandy" then I don't think the B-17 is any kind of priority. Nor are high altitude bombing missions so why the Me262? We're left with a limited range dog-fighting and ground attack P51D release in which the B-17 and Me262 have no place.

Bearing in mind there is little in existence yet to make videos with (it's a kickstarter project) apart from the fortunate and clever cross-pollination with DCSW ..... Luthier yesterday:- "Working to get lots more footage and screenshots. Hoping for tomorrow, but it's maybe beginning to look like Monday. Working super hard." The Kickstarter and posts on the various simming forums are covered with references to DCSW and the existing P51D and AI FW190 for those familiar with the Air Combat Sim world. It seems to me that reaching those that don't know about DCS isn't so easy when many forums ban blatant advertising and can really only be informed through enthusiastic posting by their members to raise awareness but I've had KS posts deleted because they were deemed to be "advertising". We are probably the best promoters of the project via our various and differing web/forum memberships. Even a Youtube video doesn't guarantee attention. There are millions of videos I might be interested in but don't know they exist. When the "only" reward is a great flight combat sim and no personal business return the market is likely only to be air combat sim enthusiasts plus a spill over of people who never thought of air combat sims before although as a genre these sims are already well known about. So our key market already exists and we are best placed to spread the news and encourage others to join the KS. Whatever Luthier releases, say on Youtube, is likely only to be seen by the flight sim community via the passing of Links plus the random hits of other aviation enthusiasts on Youtube.
