Thank you I have improved the code which handles Steam in the 1.8.2 beta 2 to prevent such kind of case. This should fix your issue.
-
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback. I think I am starting to have an idea how you could get this behavior. Can you tell me if there are any other folder than Steam which contains the dll steam_api64.dll on your system?
-
Can you re-install Tacview 1.8.1 final, and try again to launch it again? If it still launches Steam, can you give me the exact path you have used to launch Tacview64.exe ? Can you also give me the list of files which are in the folder where Tacview64.exe is installed?
-
I believe that what you are looking for is in the Flight Log which you can find lower down in the same menu. The Event Log will eventually replace the Flight Log, but it currently works only with real-life flight data. It is still a work in progress, so meanwhile you may want to stick with the Flight Log for DCS World.

Hi Shrimp, Only the Steam edition of Tacview can ask Steam to start/do something. The Standalone edition of Tacview cannot do that (it does not have the required DLLs). Is it possible that the shortcut you are using to launch Tacview is an alias to the Steam edition of Tacview?
-
Hi Jason, I didn’t get any answer from Detox yet. If you get the exact same error for the exact same tiles, it is possible that the data may be corrupted or not available at all on the server. Which tiles do you have some issues with? With which provider?

Exactly: if you delete the invalid files manually, and can ask Mapview to NOT delete the rest, so it will download only the missing ones.
-
It is possible that some tiles were not properly downloaded because of a web server time-out. I have informed the author of Mapview to see if he can help us. Meanwhile, have you tried to delete the invalid tiles from C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\ and then restart the download in Mapview? It should just re-download what is missing from the directory, so I believe that the fix should be quicker than a full re-download.
-
Absolutely! The standalone and Steam edition of Tacview are identical. They will both work with any edition of your favorite simulators.

You can re-open the bar from: Analysis (the third menu icon) -> Playback Control Bar [ON]

Tacview 1.8.0 is now available to everyone! Download: http://tacview.net/download Release Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2019 Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit File Size: 293.0 MB This year, I worked closely with military partners to improve Tacview for real-life playback and debriefing. Most of these improvements are also relevant to flight simulators and are now available to everyone in this brand-new release. This includes better support for small and big screens, more UI modularity, the possibility to display local time (at last ;)), as well as a new tool to measure distance between the selected object and any other object or even a point on the ground. I have also been working hard to improve performance, notably the loading speed of custom textures. Thanks to the help of my partner BuzyBee, numerous airports and maps are now included in Tacview distribution, Tacview database has been greatly extended, and many 3D models have been integrated. This simplifies the installation process by reducing the need to download and manually install add-ons and asset packs for debriefings. Right now, I am focusing more on Tacview 2.0. So, if you feed a slow down in Tacview 1.x dev, this means that Tacview 2.0 is progressing faster  I am currently working on the core engine which is starting to run on all platforms from cell phones to computers. This first step takes some time, but it is also important, because this will establish a clean base on top of which the rest will be built. The next step will be to port most of Tacview components to the new engine: internal tools, telemetry recorder, installer. Then I will start rewriting Tacview main application. Enjoy! Hi macedk 1. Yes, as long as the server authorizes full object-export (in host options), each client who has Tacview will be able to record their flight. However, to prevent cheating, a default 10 minutes delay will be applied. So, the last 10 minutes of the flight will not be available (in the case the host does not have Tacview installed). 2. As long as the host has Tacview installed, it will always be able to record the flight of any client which joins the mission. (Note that object-export is an option of the server and not of the client).

Tacview does not support yet the blending of several textures sets. MapView saves all the tiles in C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\ One thing you can try is to ask MapView to generate a first set from SkyVector, copy the tiles in another folder, then generate OpenStreetMap set for example. Then, with a picture editor you could manually blend the tiles of your choice from SkyVector with the OpenStreetMap ones in C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\. Could this do the trick?
-
@sc_neo For DCS World debriefings, you do not need to import SRTM files. Tacview already contains the terrain data from the latest versions of DCS World. This terrain is even more accurate than SRTM files because, DCS World maps may be different from reality for technical or gameplay reasons. Have you tried to import OpenStreetMap data using MapView made by Detox? https://www.tacview.net/download/addons/#mapview In a few clicks you should be able to quickly evaluate which data source is the most appropriate. @195th_Magic I am sorry to hear that you have this random freeze on your system. Can you share me (maybe again) an export of Tacview registry branch by email? (support at tacview.net) I will investigate further what kind of variable can be an issue and may send you private builds to attempt to find a fix.

In general, the G force is calculated by Tacview based on your aircraft course and acceleration (averaged over one second). It is possible the G force displayed from the aircraft cockpit may have been recorded for some non FC3 aircrafts. If you see the G force in the *raw* telemetry window, then the value displayed in Tacview is the one displayed in the simulator cockpit. Did you notice any significant discrepancy with a particular aircraft?
-
Tacview telemetry recorder is running in the background from within DCS World. You can adjust a few options from DCS -> Options -> Special -> Tacview control panel. But most of the time the default values should be fine for everyone. After your flight, you can launch the main application from Windows start menu and open the acmi file which should have been recorded in your “My Documents\Tacview” folder. Please note that some servers are preventing telemetry recording, in that case, you may not have a readable acmi file. You can still re-record the data offline by playing back DCS world track file.
-
It really depends on each server. Some are authorizing telemetry recording, other are prohibiting it. If the sever you are playing on does not enable acmi file recording, you can still record the file afterward by playing back the corresponding track file offline.
-
To check if the problem comes from a third-party add-on including Tacview, simply delete your \Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\export.lua file, then retry the mission. If this fixes the freeze, then re-install Tacview (no need to uninstall first) and retry the flight. If the flight is working well, then the bug was probably related to another addon. If the freeze is still here, then this may be a bug related to Tacview. In that case, share me your C:\Users\vyrtu\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log file and tell me which mission and aircraft you are trying.
-
Hello Backstab, Short answer: YES, you will be able to review your personal flight by loading the acmi file generated on your server. The only limitation is that advanced telemetry like IAS and radar locks can be recorded only on your local computer (not by the server), so these data will not be available. First, the data recorder is free. In other words, you can install right away Tacview on your server. By default, the data recorder with record any flight taking place on your server as a big acmi file lasting for a whole hosted session. If you prefer one smaller file for each person flying on your server, you can enable the option [DCS World -> Options -> Special -> Tacview -> Record one file per client]. This will create one distinct file for each person connected to your server in a separate folder. In both cases, you can also redirect the acmi files to a share cloud drive like Google Drive or Drop Box, so your wingmen can review their flights after each session from the data recorded on your server.
-
The problem should be fixed now. You may also want to try the additional download links next time the main mirror is not working well.
