  1. Pretty much sums up the DCS fan base as a whole (at least the vocal segment).
  2. CVN-65 Enterprise was the first nuclear powered carrier. Next was CVN-68 Nimitz and every carrier thereafter has been a nuke.
  3. From what you know has the Super Hornet been any less of a maintenance monster? I know maintenance was a big factor in the Tomcat's retirement and maintenance a big factor in both the acquisition and continued production of the Super Hornet. It'd be nice if we got an AI A-7E Corsair II as well. Then it'd be the 1980s all over again!
  4. Question - was the F-14 really the maintenance monster is was reputed as being?
  5. :thumbup::thumbup:
  6. Dude... I just said the exact same thing above. DCS fans, I tell you!
  7. Umm... because the Forrestal-class is a conventionally-powered aircraft carrier, maybe?
  8. Thankfully, most commercial vessels designed today use diesel engines. Bunker fuel and heavy fuel oil is really nasty stuff.
  9. This project has become bigger and better than when it first started. The addition of an AI A-6 plus the Jester RIO is making this the most ambitious and greatest project in the history of combat flight simulations. You guys are awesome - take all the time you need to get this done right!
  10. Are we going to have to fly through clouds of exhaust produced by the oil-fired boilers? :P
  11. After reading Tony Holmes' F-14 Tomcat Units of Operation Enduring Freedom, an Afghanistan map is a must. Those Tomcat crew flew some epic missions!
  12. Bravo. There's way too many people in the DCS fan base that have absurd expectations, not to mention a distorted idea of authenticity and realism. We should start making memes base off DCS fans. LOL
  13. Among the DCS fan base, there's no shortage of silly statements. We've spent 20 years with the same old Crimea/Caucasus map - a region of the world where the prospect of U.S./Western intervention is virtually nil. Now we've got some maps where there's a higher probability of U.S./Western intervention or currently such intervention going on and people find a reason to whine. It comes as no surprise. LOL
  14. A WHOLE module??? Hory sheet!!! Thanks for the answer!
  15. I'm sure I'm not the first to bring this up, but will there be training missions for carrier operations? Operating off a flat top is a whole different ballgame and we'll need a lot of guidance for that.
  16. And UFOs! Don't forget them aliens!
  17. LOL Please. It wouldn't be the ED fan base if you weren't asking that much.
  18. For the next Top Gun, I hope they do the opening in this style: According to the maker of this documentary, the Top Gun producers actually used it to develop shots for the movie. He says some of the shots in Top Gun are nearly identical to many of the shots in the documentary.
  19. It's kind of funny to think Harry Connick, Jr. was once an onscreen fighter jock. Overanalysis. The F-35 hasn't earned a role in the new film because, well... It's barely entered service. :dunno:
  20. That wasn't from Top Gun.
  21. I never had that lovin' feeling. :( Also, if you listen to the audio commentary on the Blu-ray/DVD, a number of NAs and NFOs chime in on the matter. Top Gun was a more realistic film than it was given credit for. It's still no documentary, but it's not like there was no attempt made to make it true-to-life. The sequel can be great as long it doesn't try to be like the first one. Look at this remark from director Joe Kosinski: So I think the director is keenly aware Top Gun 2 has to be a different film from what the original was in order to be successful. I also get a sense that it may take a more serious tone, given the fact our NAs and NFOs have been fighting wars for almost 20 years now. In other words, play time is over.
  22. :megalol: It was, but I'm socially autistic, so I was like all the other Naval Aviators and NFOs at the club and just sat at the bar, sipping my brew.:drink:
  23. Tonight, I fulfilled a lifelong dream. I went out drinking and there was a jukebox at the bar. I played "Lead Me On" by Teena Marie, the song that was playing when Maverick and Goose entered the officer's club early in the film. I can't tell you how awesome it felt; it seemed like I was in the movie!!!
  24. Val Kilmer had a good career going into the late-'90s, then dropped completely off the map. He looks absolutely awful these days. I hope he doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the next film.
  25. Dude... I just said that. LOL
