Is this how headtracking is meant to be?
Mewle replied to doveman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just an update. Had a basic mission flying the 15, hunting il-76 with 2 flankers as escort. Situational Awareness was out of the ballpark, bear in mind I was using the joystick hat before. It was smooth and reliable and once set up an amazing addition to the sim. If you like to tinkering to get a bargain get a ps3eye, IR LEDs and a hat. -

Well free track is giving me 125 fps. Pain in the ass having to mess with camera settings on startup but its smooth. Had some issues with the dummytrackir process hanging around sometimes too, which you have to kill to restart the cam. Will fly a mission later and check stability over time, but pretty happy with it so far and would recommend it to everyone if it was less buggy. -

I got my LEDs and ps3eye up and running with facetracknoir and I'm very happy with it. Total cost was about £25. And once curves are tweaked it'll be easily as good as TIR. will also try free track but initially it kept crashing the cam to the point I had to reinstall the drivers nearly every boot -

I just read that for film as a filter its best to take a photo of a cool florescent light with a 5 sec exposure then get it processed. This should block all light below about 750nm and have a sweet spot around 880nm depending on the film. 880 is perfect for the sfh485 LEDs -
Mine downloaded fine at a decent rate ~8MB/s Just ran the old beta installer from scratch. Seems to run fine and load missions a bit quicker. Haven't delved into f15 but su33 cockpit is nice and tf51 seems nice

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..

Like I said. Second hand cougar. Quick refurb. super cheap spares still available from TM. Killer mods available that outclass even the warthog according to some. On eBay for around £130 as stock.

I just got a second hand TM cougar for £100. Spent £15 on a new gimbal and a couple of switch guides Inc shipping. They should arrive today and I can't wait to tinker. if you're serious about simming and dont mind a bit of fixing its a great hotas with loads of features. To quote one of the reviews, "once you go all metal, you'll never go back to plastic" Just the flight grip without the base on its own is heavier than an x52 pro!!

The TF-51D makes sense with DCS:WWII coming up. Also it means historical enthusiasts can get a taste of their area of interest right off the bat

Most successful controllers for A2A refueling

There's much less precision with the 360 pad and it goes all ace combat. While still just playable, you may as well use an Atari 2600 paddle -
I think the "t" frog is a better introduction to dcs. As far as new comers are concerned it's almost a half way house between the A10 variants and KA50. It definitely led me to buy both modules then I went pokemon and had to have them all

I was lucky to get that pedal, but it was headed for the bin as that run was made of shoddy materials and they switched supplier as well as the engine management system. But I'm sure other cars have this or a similar system and you could maybe salvage a hall sensor pedal at a scrapyard(if you're lucky). But they're so perfect for these builds and they eliminate a ton of headaches from the design element.

Damn you guys at leatherneck are getting good at taking the rough with the smooth. I think the brunt of excitement around third party jets for DCS is being bore by you guys. And I say fair play to you for getting through whatever you had to with the recent issues, and trailblazing through this quagmire to release the first third party, study sim level, fully fledged military jet. I will be driving the Fishbed hard once released!

I snagged one of these on eBay for £45. Leo wasn't doing a run at the time. But yeah, awesome board! It'll be running the rest of my pit now I have a cougar.
-
Hehe yeah I saw that evenstrain one as well, and quickly moved along. Any mods I make will likely be fairly basic reinforcement and play elimination, most importantly I'm hoping I can get it in under £100 including the gimbal. Was pleasantly shocked when they said the full gimbal would cost 8 Euros plus shipping.
-
Thanks Ssnake. Just got off the phone with TM and a complete brand new x+y gimbal and a speedbrake slider only come to 17euro Inc shipping. So I will head down this route and probably strengthen the stock parts and eliminate the center play issue similar to the original uber method. I'm sure there'll be another taker for your stock parts soon enough. I couldn't believe how badly engineered they were and I'm surprised it wasn't a major recall issue.
-
Unfortunately I could only just justify buying a cougar, so i probably will miss the run :'( Got my stick yesterday for £100. But whilst doing the initial install and setup, the x-axis gimbal part kinda exploded. I don't suppose anyone here has a stock gimbal (x-axis or complete set) they want rid of?
