  1. That's a good thought and makes sense. I'll fiddle with the throttle a little more and see if I can make some progress getting that initial start back. Still curious about the sound and master caution though. Seems if I can't get it on that first try, my only course for resetting it is to quit to desktop. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  2. I've started the Harrier several times with the procedure in this video. However, today, when I tried to start it I began seeing not only failed starts, but other strange behavior. Has anyone else run into this or seen weird stuff like this? I've also noticed after one failed start, in multiplayer or single player (doesn't matter), the engine whine from that failed start carries over to subsequent start attempts (in either multiplayer or single player) and the Master Caution no longer alerts. Thanks
  3. Wow, that's a great explanation. I've messed are here and there with MIST before, but never really taken it the distance in a mission. I'll take a look at each and see what feels best for my purposes. Most of what I've done has been for website development: HTML5, ActionScript3 and some JavaScript, but it always feels new all over again. Thanks for the reply. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  4. Just wanted to follow up. Realized I never did. This worked perfectly and saved me a huge headache. For anyone else in this boat, don't uninstall anything before deactivating it. Saves a ton of time. Thanks again! Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks. That's super helpful. I can't believe I'm considering trying to learn enough of knee of these languages to be dangerous again, but I remembered reading a lot about MIST and Moose. Assuming I would have to learn one or the other, or at least the two in succession, which would you start with? I'm kind of a teach a man HOW to fish guy so this is most beneficial if I can come to understand WHY and HOW these scripts are working. They look incredible though. I'm very excited. Thanks again! 6. This looks great. I just saw the rest of your post. My phone was having some trouble. I'll try this out tomorrow. Thanks for your help! Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  7. That's a good question. At first, I thought it wouldn't make a difference (other than running the risk of having a MiG spawn on my tail), but in practice, a few times, I found myself after a dogfight over or near an enemy airdrome and caught a couple on the ground. That was more fun than I anticipated and helped me iron out strafing, so ideally it would include the full taxi, but not a deal-breaker if there is a script that can make this work without that. Also, I don't care if they deactivate after landing, but I couldn't figure out how to make that happen without a bunch more triggers and events. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  8. Hi All, Despite several attempts, I haven't been able to learn enough of this language to use script effectively to do what I want to do in missions. I have a decent machine (specs in sig FWIW), but I am still running into frame rate issues. I don't know a ton about what impacts frame rate, but I believe I read somewhere that the number of events and triggers in the game does and I know the number of aircraft in a mission does as well (even if I can't see them). I created this mission (attached) as a kind of proof of concept to randomize MiG-15's launching from different bases for me, patrolling in an F-86 to intercept and engage. I wanted to have simulated dogfights all over so there is a ton of F-86 traffic as well. End result is yes, it works, but it quickly boggs down my system to a non-playable level. Questions: 1) Is there a way to use some kind of spawn/respawn script to eliminate the mass of triggers? 2) Do I have any hope of creating a sky filled with a/c without destroying the playability of a mission? 3) Does anyone know of another mission out there similar to this one I could try. I'm really just trying to get better at A2A in the F-86 and tried to build this to give me several hours of practicing finding MiG's and dogfighting with them. Thanks in advance! Saberz Wild.miz
  9. I uninstalled DCS World on my old computer. I have DCS World installed on my new computer and am ready to deactivate and reactivate the licenses, but every process I found requires access to the old, installed game. Is there any way to deactivate the licenses, perhaps online, so I can reactivate them on my new computer and not lose an activation? They didn't automatically deactivate and I can't find a way to save all those activations. Obviously, if I reinstall the game on my old computer, I'll be back at square one since I already uninstalled the game and the files are gone. Thanks in advance.
  10. WoW! Have no idea how I've been playing DCS for this long and didn't come across this. I am breathing so much easier now. Thanks! Guess I can look at the new PC now too. Sent from my E6782 using Tapatalk
  11. Hold the phone! You can deactivate and reactivate? Is this for real? How does one accomplish this? I have been terrified to attempt Win10 again for fear of burning through my remaining "activations," even though they've only ever been installed on one computer, the same computer, by the same owner for life. I've also been looking at a new PC, so this is great info.
  12. I liked this part. That's a solid approach, but how can you tell how much ammo a battery has? Or do you just wait for it to stop firing? I also have trouble with Radar SAM ident. I know they have different ranges and need to be prioritized by threat level, but there are so many to try and remember.
  13. That video is super helpful. Thanks for linking to it.
  14. Excellent. I know my ISP is sending me something like 150+ down and 15-20 up, but my router is holding me at like 94 down and 10-15 up. Need a fancy new router to open that up.
  15. Ok, thanks for the reply. That's great news. Most of the missions I host are made for about 8 players 10 max.
  16. I have a quick question on this subject as well: I don't know much about how servers work, but if I just use my main computer, not a dedicated server, and host a session, about how many players could I expect to connect to me reliably? In other words, how many player slots should I restrict the session to in order to preserve reliability. These are my computer and internet specs as best I remember them: Alienware M18X i7 16GB ram SSD HD nVidia 540M (x2) 100mbps down I think around 10-15mbps up Am I missing anything important for figuring this out? Thanks!
  17. Not exactly sure where this belongs so I'm just posting it here. Might even already be posted, I don't know, but I came across this article and thought it was excellent. Gives some good insight to the era of fighters DCS uses. http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/how-to-win-in-a-dogfight-stories-from-a-pilot-who-flew-1682723379 "While I said that the F-15 is like a Mercedes, The F-16 is like a Formula One race car. The cockpit is tight and it gives you more of the sensation that you're actually wearing the jet than actually sitting in it. The side-stick controller takes about as much time to get used to as it takes to read this sentence." "From BVR (beyond visual range), the MiG-29 is totally outclassed by western fighters. Lack of situation awareness and the short range of the AA-10A missile compared to the AMRAAM means the NATO fighter is going to have to be having a really bad day for the Fulcrum pilot to be successful." "First, a little thrust vectoring history. The USAF tested a 3D nozzle on the Multi-Axis Thrust Vectored F-16 in the early 1990s. It was found that thrust vectoring was really only useful at speeds below 250 knots (with the F-16; the speed will vary with other jets). Above that speed the jet had enough g available and was maneuverable enough that thrust vectoring didn't add anything. Also, at high speeds, if the nozzles start to swing the jet violently around you're apt to induce unacceptable loads on the airframe." Lot of good stuff in there.
  18. Maybe it's an acquired taste. It does seem like there is a pretty good reaction to the stats page on this thread. I think there is a lot to be said for the how some kind of record-keeping would work, be it something eventually fed to a leaderboard, posted as sortable stats or perhaps even left only for the pilot's eyes as a kind of evolved multiplayer logbook. THIS is a good point, though, and there is something to be said for that. Enter the discussions of server hiccups, glitches, hackers etc., and those are never pleasant, but to some degree those lapses in understand are already out there. I'm not sure DCS could ever completely escape issues such as these, even tangential to the discussion of a leaderboard (I won't repeat what I said the first time I spent 4 minutes starting up my A-10 just to have somebody rocket a jet down the taxiway into me at takeoff speed), so I guess the question is at what point would those who enjoy a form of stat-tracking be happy before introducing the risk of a hellbent pissing contest raised on ad hominem arguments.
  19. Good points all around. I guess I'm not sure exactly what I mean. I love the depth of this sim and the more realistic and complicated, the better, for me at least, so I wouldn't want to compromise that, but at the same time, I wonder if there isn't room for some measure between the full-blown CoD-style ranking and some form of flight management tracker similar to what Sith alluded to (% back to base, flight time and kills etc.). I know real-life pilots and even squadrons keep that info and it was really competitive in larger theaters such as Pacific and European theaters in WWII. I have come across some SLMod stats on occasion and I enjoy the single-player logbook, but I wonder how a multiplayer system could affect the competition as Vjamiko mentioned. Anyone who flies frequently online knows a few of the more veteran pilots by name, pilots who seem to RTB for rearming and refueling more than floating to Earth under the chute like me. For those who don't know who they are, a system of record-keeping might establish that distinction on a more public level. I think it might be cool if it were done well. After all, if you hopped into a server to fly with/against Pappy Boyington, George Preddy, Robin Olds etc., wouldn't you want to know? Just a thought. Thanks for your insights everybody.
  20. So we could see the AFM before 2.0?
  21. I've had a lot going on lately so I've been in and out the last several months, but life has settled to some degree now and I'm trying to catch up a little. Been thumbing through all the DCS 2.0 posts and trying to track progress on a few of the newer modules, but one thing I haven't really come across got me wondering: Has there been any mention of incorporating a form of standardized leaderboard at any point down the road? Is there any kind of third-party leaderboard active anywhere? Would a leaderboard cheapen a simulator like this, or add to it? Thoughts?
  22. Does the HAWK have the AFM yet? I thought they were waiting until DCS 2.0 to put that in.
  23. GREAT work! Just saw this guide for the first time. It is incredible! I have managed to talk several people into purchasing DCS products and they all hit me with the same thing: WAY too complicated. Hoping this will break it down for them. Very well done. Please keep them coming. -Rassy
  24. Never said HAWK, 21 nor F-18 were Belsimtek, just examples of mods missing the mark to denote the trend and when I posted that, "End of March" was the AFM relese date. We're well outside that and still in Beta but sure, I'm happy to hear progress is being made, :-)
  25. This is very true, but I still find it a shame we have to form reactions to promises broken. This is unacceptable, yet true. DCS F-18C, MiG-21, HAWK, F-15 AFM and EDGE were all supposed to be active, at least in part, by now. At some point disappointment and frustration sets in. It does offer a timeline, but if that mark is found repeatedly unreliable, then what is it really offering beyond a false hope? Just food for thought. I should add I LOVE Belsimtek's modules and underatand their products are of outstanding quality. I just believe they represent an unfortunate theme of suspect delivery and follow-through.
