  1. Well done :) This whole amount of work reminded me an article I have read about a guy that wanted to fly Spitfire (in real world ofc) since he was a kid. Long story short, Spitfire he found was insuranced for 2.5 million pounds, and insurance company gave demands that it can be only flown by a pilot with at least 1000 hrs of exp including hudreds of hours on tail draggers. I think flying P51 could be even more demanding so I can imagine how hard it can be to fly this in rl. :)
  2. P3D is based on FSX source codes, which are tweaked in 2.0 version new functionalities are introduced, so basically P3D comes from FSX. If you look for great FLIGHT MODEL (accurate spins, rolls, stalls, speed stalls, gravity center influence etc.) to do aerobatics don't bother with FSX. It has lots of limitations, it's just... old. It's better to buy DCS P51, although it is of course not aerobatic plane, but flight model is great.
  3. Hi, I am just wondering- is this going to be changed? I am frequently turning off right engine in A10C because "fire off" handle is just below "Chat" button. In Mustang I am pulling off my canopy (although flying without it is very refreshing, but it destroys my hair :music_whistling:). Is it possible to turn off clickable cockpits while any window is opened? Thanks!
  4. ScottVal don't give up! I love FSX and I am still using it for navigation and practising flights, but when it comes about flight dynamics and action - DCS is the best. I have never liked free SU25 that comes with DCS World (but it's only my opinion), so I advise you to do some personal research and try to find the best suitable module for you P51 - if you want just to enjoy flying and all the details and flight dynamics A10C - if you want just to bring peace with 3900 rounds per minute and enjoy close air supports MI8, UH1 if you want to taste the most realistic flight dynamics for helicopter end just enjoy flying it! Good luck :)
  5. Well, if ED thinks some things have to be delayed I am sure they have reason for this. So far sooo good being their customer for me. They keep supporting their products, keep close bounds with the community, I have even got awesome 70% discount for buying MI8 just before discount even if I didn't mind. I am also anxious for F15 AFM, Huey patches etc etc but c'mon. Be patient. Wait. Go out with friends. Buy vodka. Lots of vodka. It will help you survive this longingness. And will make you see the rainbows and unicorns just for one more day again. True story.
  6. This is the best combo for great business :D
  7. Maybe good idea would be to stress the need for proper curve settings somewhere in DCS? Maybe in some training lesson or some other way? I remember that it took me some time until I have discovered how this changes everything. And really, it was an "eureka" for me. Or use some curves as default? I think that computer sims can't be "as real as it can get" in 100%. Some compromises must be taken. In example- if you would sim in 100% realistic air movements, wind lofts and turbulence I think it would be impossible to fly without proper FF joystick. In real plane it is much easier to counter all those movements of stick and you do it without thinking. In sim it would cause only cries and whines on forums :P. P.s. Thanks EvilBivol-1 for video- very impressing .
  8. Indeed, learning to fly actual plane is pretty easy. When you are doing PPL you can do your first solo just after few hours of flight. What is much more complicated and simmers usally don't learn are all the rules you need to learn and obey so you don't kill yourself or don't go to jail :music_whistling: . When you are simming, you usually don't do lots of "boring" things which "waste" your time: i.e. traffic patterns, contacting ATC, considering weather changes etc. You don't have to keep in mind where you are exactly, where is other traffic, because you can cheat and turn on map and see it. You are also less careful, because still its only the game. :) I have been in 2G tight spiral so far and I can say that even this is mind blowing if you have no experience, and I couldn't compare it to any roller coaster I've taken. And being into the spin is the most terrifying and the most awesome thing you can feel in the cockpit :D And it can scare you as hell. This remainds me interesting fact: 84% of all general aviation accidents are results of pilot's fault ;)
  9. Hmmm thanks for this link. Good to know this difference from the real world. So no magnetic RWY headings and no gyro drift :(. That could be improved... Even in good oldie FSX you have this effect. But still, your gyro will get out of sync with low vaccum sucction - I know it is modeled in this sim.
  10. Are you sure that you didn't mix up gyro with compass? I would say, that you take compass for gyro and vice versa, because otherwise it doesn't make sense :). Runway number is rounded up magnetic heading - in that way 306 becomes 31(0). If you have low vaccum suction (i.e. low rpm when taxing), or just after some turns, your gyro will get out of sync. From time to time you need to correct gyro heading and set it to compass heading in still, steady flight. It is good habit to check if gyro is set correctly just before take off.
  11. Hi Ivan, welcome to the forum  I'm not sure if its possible to pitch and roll with mouse, but I think it is better for you to rethink mapping controls like that. In A10C you need to contol so many things, that if you skip using clickable control cockpit with mouse, you will have to learn dozens of weird keyboard combinations. It is much easier to learn where "that" button/switch is in the virtual cockpit than to learn it's keyboard combo.
  12. This question brings me back memories of one of my multiplayer games, when we supposed to support friendly convoy. After one or two hours we had almost cleared their way, but I got another JTAC request... and I mistakenly got those friendlies for enemies. Killed half of them with mavericks and almost lose the round . So yes, you can shoot friendlies :music_whistling:
  13. Yes, you are right. In this sim it doesn't make big difference, because if you flip over your plane and finish in a fireball you can start again. In real life I wish I had button to do it :). This was the answer for question "how realistic it is". FYI there are some people here who use this sim to improve their flying skills in real life. To practice dangerous situations to find out the solution, so in the real world they would live another day and fly again. Cheers :pilotfly:
  14. In real world you don't use brakes to steer when you have significant speed. You just push correct rudder pedal. Even in C152 which has 15 times less horse power than P51 (and of course is not a taildragger), you need to counter propeller momentum just after touchdown. And then, when you slow down, momentum goes down, so you need less right rudder.
  15. :megalol: Thanks! I will try this tonight. Seems I was on good track, but need to practice input coordination... and yeah I hope to skip those 3 last points :). I know it is hard to recover, and there are some planes in which it is just almost impossible, but is P51 one of them?
  16. I have no problem entering "normal" spin, but then I am not able to flatten it up. I've tried some tips to slowly increase throttle to 50%, turn aileron opposite to rotation and pull on stick etc. but it seems I am doing something wrong. Anyone here had some more luck and can share with some tips? :) Thanks!
  17. Hi, Do you mean, that you want to convert TRK to avi and then post it i.e. on YouTube? If this is what you want, you can browse through this thread and use "record avi" tool from mission editor inside DCS World: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53839 This is the best tool to have the highest quality without frame loss. There are some issues with MP though :(.
  18. When you ask on VAS to do formation with you, for 99% you will find someone.
  19. Hi! At first both left and right tanks are filled with gas in 50/50 proportions, than the main fuselage tank, and at last - drop tanks (if any). AFAIK for the take off you use wing tank at the left. For landing you choose the one with the most gas. During flight from time to time you change tank from which you are taking gas - so you keep your plane balanced.
  20. I used to say to my friends, that the worst thing in being a pilot in real world is that when something goes wrong I can't just let go everything, shut my eyes and start to scream.
  21. Yeah.. I've read somewhere that DCS: Europe 1944 can bring this radio navigation to work. And that would be SO AWESOME :D to use really old fashioned radio aids like Lorentz beam :).
  22. Yeap, but stall speed also depends on weight: bigger weight = higher stall speed. I.e. it is 119 mph for fully loaded P51 with flaps and gear up (p. 113 of DCS manual contains nice table with stall speeds too).
  23. Hi Charly_Owl :), the best advice to do good landing is "be patient". In real world you are patient, because you don't want to die in fireball :). In sim like this being patient means, that you look at traffic pattern for Mustang in manual (page 134) and you try to build it. Don't do shortcuts, try to master it. You are obviously going too fast. theOden is right - you should have 120 mph when passing runway threshold, then you flare until you reach stall speed (~90 mph) just before touchdown. Remember one thing - don't go too flat - steep approaches are easier to do - just reduce power, so you have 120 mph on threshold. If you have problems with controlling Mustang at these low speeds, take him for a ride to safe altitude, slow down, apply full flaps and gear and try to fly as slow as you can without entering spin. When you are good at this, come back to landings. Good luck :)
  24. I would have a problem with that if it would involve ED, Belsimtek, VEAO or other experienced mil aircraft developers in making civilian aircrafts. IMO it is better now to bring as many military aircraft as possible in "as real as it gets" idea, because there is no other military sim so advanced as DCS at this time in the market. Now if you want advanced civilian aircraft avionics, you can choose from lots of models for FSX. But if you want to fly and blow up stuff, what can you do?
