Benchmark here (DCS World 1.2.4 A-10C module reqired)
GKOver replied to xracer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
After changing from 2 x GTX-295 to one GTX-Titan I got the following Performance values: AVG FPS : 31 FPS GRAPHICS CARD: GTX-Titan CPU : i7-2600 CPU Utilization/Thread: max. 84% MAIN MEMORY SIZE: 16GB MEMORY USED : 26% GPU Memory: 6 GB GPU MEM USED: 22% GPU Utilization: 80% COMMENTS: It seems ..... that CPU and GPU are not totally used. And after Overclocking the CPU: AVG FPS : 36 FPS GRAPHICS CARD: GTX-Titan CPU : i7-2600 (overclocked from 3400 to 4100) CPU Utilization/Thread: max. 83% MAIN MEMORY SIZE: 16GB MEMORY USED : 29% GPU Memory: 6 GB GPU MEM USED: 22% GPU Utilization: 95% COMMENTS: It seems that the GPU with the CPU OC is nearly totally utilized. Overclocking the CPU with a factor 1.20 improved the performance with a factor 1.16. So an SLI with 2 x GTX-Titans wouldn't be a big improvement for my system because here (and in the test without Overclocking) the CPU is the bottleneck. => So if DCS World would support more CPU cores the bottleneck my graphic card would be again the bottleneck. With such a higher CPU core utilization a higher number of GTX-Titans would improve the performance dramatically!!! Finally I now have a system that is 2 - 4 faster than the old one... :-) -

Yesterday I have ordered a Zotac GTX-Titan Amp! Edition for my computer (i7-2600) to replace my SLI 2 x GTX-295. I have bought these cards at the beginning of 2009. Until yesterday I was always thinking if I should buy a GTX-Titan or a GTX-780. Another question was: one single card or a SLI with 2 cards? The price difference here in Germany is really extreme between these two cards: GTX-780 = 650 € GTX-Titan = 980 € Finally I have decided to buy one Titan because: My current GPUs make very much noise (5.8 sone instead of only 2.1) and warmth (2 x 312 watts instead of 250) in our living room. 6 GB GPU memory: so much GPU memory should be better in the future with the new forthcoming games. May be that Edge will also use more GPU memory. I don't believe that Edge will improve the performance but the quality of the graphics. All options in the DCS-World graphic settings and a high resolution (several monitors, AA ...) may need more than 3 GB GPU. This would lead to a very bad performance because in this case the GTX-780 will have to read from the main memory. May be that I want to play DCS-World in 3D (with our TV or with forthcoming VirtualGlasses/HelmetMountedDisplay). In this case I will also need twice of the GPU memory. My CPU will currently be able to feed only one Titan in the right way for DCS-World. I think 2 Titans will only be a waste of money at the moment. If I later want to improve the graphic processing performance I can do this by adding one or two Titans but I won't be able to increase the GPU memory. If there are currently 2 GTX-Titans or 2 GTX-780s the CPU will be the bottleneck of your system for DCS-World... but if Eagle would increase the CPU cores usage the GPU should become again important (CPU will be the bottleneck). I would say that it is logical that a 3D-simulation needs theoretical endless GPU memory..... By the way: the manufacturer of my new Titan offers a 5 year warranty here for Europe. I hope to get the card in the next days. Of course I will run again the benchmark and inform you. -
Can I use "Record AVI" for creating a 3D-video-file?

@159th_Viper: I want real 3D, not only this plastic 3D. Thanks anyway for your answer. @PeterP: I will try to find such a filter or 3D-Plugin. I would be able to combine the 2 videos later with my video editing tool (Magix). -

As far as I know MSAA also need Video Memory. Do you have switched on 4/8/16xMSAA? -

For me there is one very important question still open: Is it better (or worth) to buy 2 SLI-combined GTX-Titans instead of "only" 2 GTX-780? Or in other words: will the performance be better with the 6GB Video memory instead of "only" 3 GB? (Let's say under the following circumstances: resolution of 3840x1200, with 8xMSAA, other effects, all CPU-Cores will be used with a forthcoming version of DCS-World. ) Currently I am still thinking about upgrading my i7-2600-system from SLI 2xGTX295 to SLI 2xGTX-Titan or SLI 2xGTX-780..... And the price difference is very different between these two new GTX-models.... -

@Nealius: I had the same behaviour and now I have COMPLETELY reinstalled the graphics driver. The SLI was not (really) working, so only one graphic card was really used. So, may be in your system SLI is not working as designed.... Or the CPU is the bottleneck in your system. To find out if your CPU is the problem you have to check if there is at minimum 1 core with a CPU utilization of 100%. The total CPU utilization is not important for being monitored: there can be a total CPU utilization of about 12 % (1/8 of you CPU-cores including the virtual cores) and your CPU is already the bottleneck. -

Because your settings are very low.... -

AVG FPS : 11.5 FPS GRAPHICS CARD: SLI 2 x GTX-295 CPU : i7-2600 CPU Utilization: Only 2 of the 8 threads have only 50% MAIN MEMORY SIZE: 16GB MEMORY USED : 4700 ( 11500 still available) GPU Memory: 896 GPU MEM USED: 98,9% / 886 MB GPU Utilization: 50-70% COMMENTS: It seems that SLI is not really working here or the insufficient GPU memory is the bottleneck. I will change some parameters and the drivers. But it is for sure, that I will never get more than 20 FPS with these two cards.... -

@Erforce: Could you please post a screenshot of your DCS World settings? I will retest it with exactly these settings. (My NVIDIA settings are set to default.) I am also using 1920x1200. -

Yesterday I was executing around 25 tests with this benchmark. I will post more results if after looking through all the protocols.... I have a i7-2600, 16 GB, SLI 2 x GTX-295. I have found out in my first impressions that for my system and this benchmark: SLI nearly doubled the performance! Only maximum of 2 CPU-Cores were used with a maximum of 50 %. So that means if I would have 2 times more GPU Power I would face a bottleneck of the CPUs. In other words: if I would upgrade to SLI 2 x GTX-Titan I would get (only) max. 2 - 3 times more performance. A further performance improvement would need a faster CPU or a better CPU core usage. Many graphic settings are not so much important for the performance. The GPUs are definitely the bottleneck. Clutter, Tree and Cockpit Shadows are not so important. DCS World seems to eat my GPU memory. It nearly always uses all of the GPU memory. -

@XRACER: May be the reason for the different object number is the different aspect ratio (0.975 to 1.3333) so more objects are visible. I also experienced other results with this benchmark if I changed the aspect ratio. It is only not understandable why the performance in your screenshots is better with a higher number of objects. -

@TZeer: oh, yes, you are right. So you think that I should have to buy an Titan instead of only a GTX-780? -

So that means that less of 1 GB of your 6GB GPU Memory was used? For me it is very important to know how much memory is being used by DCS world with a 2500x1600+ resolution. Currently I am thinking about buying a Geforce 770 (3 GB GPU Memory) or a Geforce Titan (6 GB GPU Memory). Yesterday I made a test with my two GTX-295 in a SLI with 1600x1200 and all graphic features switched on and the 1.7 GB GPU Memory was totally used. So my main question is: does the Titan has an advantage with it's 6 GB in DCS-World among the other cards? May be that there is an advantage if you switch to the highest AA?
