Lockonskins.co.uk News April 2007
spugnut replied to 504MrWolf's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I hope you don't have any further problems - here's a bit of code from the PHP archives for catching xss and code insertion that I've used without problems for the last couple of years.. Hope it helps somebody. -
Things that make your P.C. go 'ulp'.. Looking good though.

126gm Tomato -40g water ---- 86gm Tomato +14g vinegar ---- 100g Tomato sauce ... I may not know much about all aspect seeking a/a missiles, but I know my sauces. Or something. Hey, who's got that bong? -
Right - after some discussion with the folks at Star-force I managed to source the problem: My machine was infected with a varient of the Nilage virus. Because of the way the virus hides itself it was interfering with both my securom and starforce drivers rendering all such protected applications unrunnable. I hope that this info is helpful to anybody with a similar problem.

That's not it - checked the setting, but as I suspected it was ok. Tried uninstalling the drivers and rolling back, same result with the three versions I tried.

Hi all, I recently re-installed windows xp, slapped my LOMAC disk in the drive and redownloaded and activated my copy of FC. Thing is, it won't start. At all. When trying to run 1.12, the whole application crashes out before the 'music' starts and SF never seems to get started. Out of curiousity, I then uninstalled the whole lot, and reinstalled up to 1.02 - and that won't run either. All I get is one process '~e5d141.tmp' that rapidly chews up 1Gb of ram, most of my processor time and does nothing. I left my machine to think it over for a while and twenty minutes later it was still in the same state. Hardware hasn't changed, but here's my rig: Athlon64 3200+ Nvidia 7600GS 1.5Gb Ram Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX I suspected it could be the notorious codec issue, so I've already stripped out all excess codecs and the problem persists. Any ideas anybody?

Fantastic news, hope the site goes from strength to strength.

Eglin Gorillas make another kill
spugnut replied to Vekkinho's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
lol - if it is real I'd consider putting in an interlock using pressure sensors in the gear struts to prevent taking weapons out of safe when on the deck. As to speed, well there's people here who can probably give burn time and acceleration figures, but I don't reckon they spark up to 1000+ kph in less than ten yards - still be moving pretty damn fast though. If it is real, then I'd suggest that the camera was running throughout and this is a still pulled from it. -
This site seems to have some gen on platform specs. Ref:- http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/index.html

Ref: http://www.vectorsite.net/avav8_2.html So, I would guess the easiest way to tell if an aircraft uses canopy seperation or detcord fracturing is to check if it has zero-zero ejection capability.

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone knows if the Lomac engine supports any higher pixel shaders than 1.1? All the shader files I can find are marked as ps1.1. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've got a couple of ideas for refining the current shaders and their performance, but I'd really rather not have to edit the registers directly (I like the fluffly high level shader language better than assembly..) Don't hold your breath though - I've got a lot of r/l work to do and this would just be an hour a week job.

Su-27 anti-spin rockets and wingtip nav device? TAKE 2
spugnut replied to 504MrWolf's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hmm.. I guess that the second one could be an IR detector system for picking up the IR spike generated by a missile launch - but I think it'd be very difficult to seperate the signature of a launch from that of an aircraft going to full burners. (This is probably why I don't work in detector tech!) As to the 'tickler' hawg, I'd be very scared of any bedroom device capable of generating a coupla thousand foot pounds of thrust! "It's not a threat to you darling - honestly" -
Su-27 anti-spin rockets and wingtip nav device? TAKE 2
spugnut replied to 504MrWolf's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yon anti-spin rockets look like a way of saving a really expensive aircraft. I'd guess that if you were in a flat spin, then firing the appropriate rocket (I'm founding this on the idea that the rocket stays on it's mount!) would sap the spin, and then firing both rockets and burners would give you enough airspeed to get the aircraft out of a stall condition. As to the LTD, it looks as though that's a gimbaled laser reflector - it allows you to designate and lock targets in a much larger zone than a forward looking system like the ShkVAL we have in FC. I'd guess that the module above the 'disco ball' is too small for a targeting laser, so I'd bet on their being some interior reflectors to take a beam from the primary (forward looking) laser. Just my guesses. -
Would appreciate a PM from a moderator explaining why my thread was deleted. I was not aware that it contained any offensive content, or expressed views or opinions that could be seen as offensive. I'll admit the thread was off-topic, but it was so marked with an OT and was posted in the general discussion area. I'm still going to buy black shark when it becomes available, but I'm a little miffed.

Now I just feel like wandering out someplace and doing a little light digging - seems you never know what may turn up. ;) (my luck I'd find a wingless, engineless busted up microlight...)

Effects, can someone tell me a few examples.
spugnut replied to sp0nge's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yup, all the files are headed with PS1.1 Mind you, that doesnt mean that the engine can only support ps1.1, does anyone here know if LOMAC can accept higher level ps? (Got a few ideas for refinements for the pixel and vertex shaders, but I'd rather not have to hack around with the registers directly if I can avoid it ;) ) -
If it's that certain that the addon won't be released this year, would it not be possible to change the anticipated release date on the front of the site?

Need a recomendation for Lockon training
spugnut replied to vistrel's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
If you only listen to one man, listen to Ironhand! Ironhand, you ever considered running lock-on training camps? Get five or six people onto a LAN for dedicated training, say at maybe $700/person for 3 days dedicated training? Maybe strike a deal with a local conference centre and hotel. People have stranger businesses... -
All modern copy protection systems embed themselves. It's the only way to prevent copyright theft these days. No polymorphism and hardware abstraction means stolen software. I seem to be repeating myself here - but the argument about sf is waaaay out of proportion. Having disassembled large swathes of the sf core a year or so back, I'd say that the chances it causing you issues are fairly low. Embedded copy protection has been around for a long time, and is included in secuRom 7 (one of the most popular modern systems). It's here to stay.

Another thing to consider: If you're stalling out in a turn, rethink if you should be making it. Only perform high delta-e moves when the situation is desperate. Try pulling off into the vertical instead, a low yo-yo will often serve better than a hard break turn in dogfighting, and any means of breaking out the horizontal is good.

Must stop drooling now... Nice find!

Oh. Downer. I've tried to download it a coupla times, but it keeps sticking on 40.2mb. Anyone fancy hosting a mirror? :music_whistling:

lol pilotasso - I seem to remember there are four maxims: 1. Energy is life. 2. The brave heart (or any other variation on the theme.) 4. Never tell the enemy all you know.
