You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
=Mac= replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
When you are roaring down the highway at night about twice the legal limit and you're peering carefully at the left and right sides of the road looking for radar installations and you wish like hell you had the targeting pod to ground stabilize and zoom in. Or the RWR. -
As was said in a previous post, there are many different ways to approach your landing in a Pony. So, for my two cents worth, here's how I do it. Keep in mind that with the onset of power, the P-51 will want to twist. The Merlin is a huge engine and those four prop blades are big. I make my approach high and fast, about 150 KIAS. About 15 seconds before the apron, I cut power and glide in. By the time I'm over the numbers, I'm around 120. I pull straight and level and wait for the speed to drop ever so slowly. Around 100, with no power on, I slightly nose up and stall onto a perfect three point. If I'm too high, I do bounce a bit, but I let her bounce as she wishes. Usually, I am at a couple feet about the pavement at the stall. No bounce. Of course, this is a power off landing and, as such, when something happens to force a go-around, adding power will induce a lot of bank and twist. Just practice touch and go's to get the feel of going from windmilling to lots of torque. Look out your window when you add power. See what the Pony wants to do. Ease in the correction as you ease the power. Hope this helps you find your way of landing. Since you are flying a great plane in a great study sim, you are a great pilot (if you're not yet, you WILL be soon! :)

Public inquiry. What is your PC video card?
=Mac= replied to Chizh's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Two very idle cards. See my sig for specs -
I'm sure everyone knows that DCS is the absolute top of the line in flight sims. The Mig-21 is going to be awesome, even for DCS. Take your time, Leathernecks. Do it right. I will do my best to study this aircraft and fly it as professional-like as you expect me to.

Any word on fixing the REPLAY function ?
=Mac= replied to Maximus_Lazarus's topic in General Questions
The new GeForce cards have Shadow Play. Is there any plans to cuddle up with nVidia to get DCS to be recorded via Shadow Play? NFS Shift 2 works great recorded by it. My two cards really aren't working much for DCS so recording with Shadow Play is invisible for me. I do have lots of RAM and a SSD that it records to, but that's a given. Shadow Play in the future for us? -
Excited about Sabre but will only buy if authentic theater is provided
=Mac= replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
I will buy everything that DCS World will allow except Mods. Some things I have bought twice to reward ED. The map has several features that I find important to me: large and small bodies of water, mountains, flat plains, and wonderful air/clouds. I don't care if the P-51 flies over Calais or Caucuses. It flies. So do all the others. When the Sabre comes out, of course I will fly it against the Eagle. And lose, certainly. But still, I will fly it! -

You're in the psychiatrist's chair and he does "word association" with you: He says, "what do you think of when I say... "High" - "YoYo" He looks at you funny. Then... "Fast" - "Mover" He scribbles on his note pad furiously... "Drop" - "Flares" More scibbling... "Mad" - "Dog" "Ah," he says, "that's more like it." Then, "Hot" - "Notch" He puzzles for a moment, "Notch?" "Yeah, if he's hot, you need to launch then get in the notch." "Cold doesn't come to mind?" "Running" "For hot?" "No, for cold" "How do you get.... never mind... How about," he says in a warm, soothing voice, "Mother." "Ship." . . . "I'm sorry, we're going to admit you and give you some nice relaxing medication, okay? -
Open the door, Hal....

I, for one, did not know that. Glad you posted it.

Still having problems with replay function
=Mac= replied to Maximus_Lazarus's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
In 1.2.7 I flew a practice landing mission with the Huey. I made a replay of it and then recorded the playback with Fraps. The limited edit (just changed the cams) is at Vimeo and you can see it there: https://vimeo.com/87342921 Around 1:25 or so, the view makes a mistake and shows a broken scene. Again, around 1:50 it jumps a bit. Don't know if this helps, but 1.2.7 had some issues, as well. -
Before, you had to fly the F-15 like a fighter. Now, with the PFM, you have to FLY it. "You gotta know what your doin'!" I mean, really know! Absolutely awesome. Whoever is working on Sound, at Belsimtek, must be a musician, because what I am hearing is music to MY ears.

I love the Huey. I love the Huey, I love you for letting me love the Huey. You and ED are gods. I can't believe it: even the wind sounds change as I slow to hover. Yesterday, I was practicing touch and goes on the ships off Sochi. I landed so smoothly but, as I tried to take off, I could feel that the chopper was sticking, every so delicately, to the deck. Because I can feel that extremely tiny effect, I know how intricate this study sim is. I keep thinking about how one of my co-workers chatters about how "real" that FSX is. Yeah. Right. Let him fly THESE aircraft! Thank you, so much, Belsimtek, for such great masterpieces.

Is it at all possible to (1) fly and create a track and then, (2), fly that same track as a mission with me in a second aircraft following the original me in the tracked flight? I want to create a track on my own and then fly with myself (please... I know what you are thinking.) I am trying to do a lead aerobatic routine and then fly it as a wingman. Is that at all possible?

Downloaded and installed. FPS is a bit low on my machine. How do you turn down the graphics? I understand there is a Canadian skin coming up. Will that be Maple? Will the Waffle module be next? When? Oh, and there is only a quick start guide: when will ED publish the full users manual? :bounce:

OMG! OMG! OMG! Edit: Damn it....

A10-C on 3 23" monitor setup with a GTX 660 would run fine?
=Mac= replied to Maquiavelli's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I have a 40 inch and two 27 inch monitors. (I had three 27s last year.) I use the three setup just for the A-10c. I have left and right MFCDs (TGP/Mav on the right and TAD/etc. on the left). I found using all three 27 inch monitors for "outside" view has weird distortion on the left and right monitors. So, I gave up on one 27 and got a 40 for the middle. I fly just the one 40 inch screen for everything except the A-10c. When I have three running, I get a bit of drop in FPS (50 down to 30). I have two graphics cards that don't work much at all (over kill!) so I am sure it has something to do with the CPU. Specs in my sig, below -
You beat me to it, Paul! :)

Wouldn't "FRND" be the on/off switch for the green "X" where IDs are known to be friendlies?

Advanced Formation Training and A/A Refueling
=Mac= replied to AFAlinebacker42's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
...I will ... make the tankers invincible... That won't matter, Linebacker: I'll smash into it anyway and drag it into the ocean with me. Either that, or I'll land on it, get out, and walk downstairs for a quick cup of coffee with the boomer dude. -
I have 1.2.7 and when I map the right throttle to "corrector", it does nothing. I still have to mouse the Huey's throttle to get it to work. Am I missing something?
-
I was simulating a Mach Loop, clean, 40 press average, 25 rpm, pulling hard often. One thing I learned: she makes a singing noise when turning hard. I don't know what the source is, but I used that to gauge how hard to pull and keep from dropping a wing. (TM Warthog has no FFB.) I'm sure there must be other methods to get close to max turning rate, but I'm happy with her little singing.

When I first began flying the A-10c, I had the speed brake mapped (correctly) to the TM Warthog HOTAS but did not understand that, once you deploy the speed brake, although the switch is spring loaded back (half way) the speed brake does not close until you push it completely the other way. For weeks I thought it was a DCS bug and just flew it that way. Someone flew with me one day and complained that my speed brake was open. I told him it was a DCS bug and he, embarrassing to me, showed me that it was only a ID 10T error. Now I fly with a fully functional speed brake. True, however, I still occasionally have different ID 10T errors.

Advanced Formation Training and A/A Refueling
=Mac= replied to AFAlinebacker42's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
:juggle: Okay, the 30th, then. I suppose that will be better because even with the 5 hours practice I have in now, I still can't get a top-up. I can tacan myself there, open the door and trim until hands-off, eeeeeeease into the boom and CONTACT!!!! but then, a second or two later, I'm all over the sky and Boomer tells me to scadaddle. One good thing, though: I have stopped shooting the tanker in frustration. Now, I just fly away and cry. :pilotfly: Anyway, for me, it doesn't matter what time.
