  1. I was flying and got chopped. Now I can't even get the master server at all. I think the DCS server crashed.
  2. The thrill of going through Novo at door-to-door level in a Huey just cannot be beat. I would not want to do it without TrackIR. Last night I got into a dogfight with a 104th Very Experienced Pilot on the VA server. If anyone knows me, they'll tell you that Mac just can't dogfight; but my F-15 completely dominated the 104th's AFM in his (new!) Mig 21. At first I tried the famous Scissors (and THAT is what you need head-tracking hardware for) but the 104th would have none of it. We ended up in a turning fight which he lost. (My god, Mac actually was in the saddle against a seasoned pro!) Of course, this was withOUT Edge. Skinnadoor, you still want to kill time waiting for Christmas? Things that anyone NOT flying currently are missing (in my opinion): the realism of the A-10c with TM Hotas, TrackIR, and a good three screen set of monitors; a three point landing in a P-51 and, in a fly-by, that incredible Merlin whistle; fun with the radar in the Eagle or the blur of Sochi as I cross runway 06 in a tenth of a second (exaggeration); as I said, the sea-sick inducing treetop flight down the streets of Novorossiysk in a Huey or the delicate kiss of the tarmac as I land there; the consummate challenge of landing the Dora (which I have yet to successfully do); the realism of that J-47 engine in the F-86 as the delayed spool-up gives on taxi; and finally, the pure pleasure of "locking on" in a Russian anti-air missile launcher and taking out 6 or 7 sitting duck Huey's or watching an M1A1 Abrams cruising along the lakeshore and taking out a huge nearby frieghter with one shot. I don't fly the Black Shark nor the magnificent 8 enough to really understand what I am doing, but I know people who can't live without at least a weekend hour in one of them. Flying anything in DCS is the most fun you can have with your pants on. Why wait for Edge? Once it does arrive, flying anything in DCS will be the most fun you can have even with your pants off... well, maybe there are some things that might be more fun...
  3. I did the update 2. Lost my install of FC3, A-10C, UH-1. (I think that is all I lost.) The re-install was short, though. Just the modules. Lost all my control profiles, though. :-E
  4. I just uninstalled, cleaned, and reinstalled everything ALL night the other night. I'm not doing it again..... I would be highly PO'd if I had to do that.... :-/
  5. I had the standard eight 120's and was at angels 40 painting some newbie headed towards me in the weeds for about 15 or so. He had no idea I was there (obviously) as his RWR does not look up and I was in TWS. Fox 3.... Fox 3... Fox 3.... for all eight. One right after the other about 5 seconds apart. A friendly locked him from 3 o'clock and the bandit began climbing to my left. Four of my 120's missed but the fifth took him out followed by the sixth. (I don't remember what happened to the last two.) The guy watched his replay (I guess) because about 10 minutes later he began complaining of 120 spam not being realistic. I replied that the first four missed him.
  6. Paid version of Fraps. Plus: Aside the "replay" not really following the original flight, record multiple short segments to avoid the famous "replay drift" or, at least, watch carefully for that drift, and use Fraps... only the replay at 1/2 speed or even 1/4 speed. You should have a SSD to put the capture and, even then, you will see your sim's FPS drop considerably. If you are using TrackIR, leave the speed normal but smooth it to its max and then slow your head down a lot! Do not compress with Fraps. Record at full 1080p and 30 fps in Fraps for as long as your SSD will permit. Edit to get the resulting slo-mo with Adobe's Premiere, After Effects or equivalent to go back up to 30 fps (normal speed) but do not recompress. Use Handbrake to compress, move to a large HD and copy over or delete the source videos to save space. Hope that helps
  7. Scarey. But we still love you! :)
  8. I'm not sure what went right, but after the completely clean install everything is now working properly. I have 1.2.10.32095 and all my modules. I have everything except the Mig 21 nor the Me-109 which I have not yet purchased. (Yeah, I call it the Me-109:music_whistling: ) I spent all night putting in all my controller profiles and getting a little joyriding in. Let me see tomorrow where the logs are and what they say. I did deny the update upon installing World. I downloaded and installed the modules. Then, somewhere in there, it automatically updated the updater. I thought I was going to lose everything again, but all went well. I'll look for the logs tomorrow.
  9. Did a total uninstall, deleted folders for Eagle Dynamics, downloaded brand new DCS_World_1.2.10.32095.521-353 ran install, it wanted to update, so I let it update. "DCS has stopped working." Can't get any cleaner install than what's on my D: drive. I will uninstall (again) and reinstall, this time without an update.
  10. Totally trashed my DCS Tried everything. DCS has stopped working. Had not intended to do the update but it updated anyway. :-[ Not my choice since I knew of the updater problems. It updated on its own. Tried repair. Tried computer restore point. Will now uninstall and reinstall.
  11. I was flying the Dora this past weekend and really wanted to do in a Boeing B-17.
  12. Mine is solid all the way around. The three way switch outboard on the left throttle is very weak in feel. And, unfortunately, I am beginning to get stiction (friction until you start to move) on the joystick.
  13. Morse code problem I flew last night from Novo (air start) to Krasnodar Center with the ADF and Morse codes working perfectly. Later, I added in heavy weather, moved down near Kutaisi and tried to work there. Morse codes were totally confusing. I tried locking onto all the nearby station freqs but the audio was fubar. At one time, I got a solid lock with the codes still messed up, but the ADF needle just spun about slowly (even though I had a great signal locked needle.) I think the Georgian airspace needs work on the ADF system. Up near Krasnodar, Gelen, Krymsk, Novo, and Anapa everything seems to work fine. Oh, and yes, you DO have to watch the engine RPM or you will lose the radio completely. (I was landing and noticed it!)
  14. I still get goosebumps watching flights like that! Great video guys.

  16. My favorite server. Thanks guys.
  17. Ex-Navy here. The Forrestal fire was the result of an F-4, switching from ground power to internal power, inadvertently launching a 5 inch rocket across the fantail and into an A-4's external fuel tank. The resulting hell was unleashed when burning fuel began heating the nearby outdated iron bombs which quickly cooked off, obliterating the port stern.
  18. I would like to see a Buff (B-52) or maybe even the B-2. And, of course, the B-29, 25, 24, all the way down. Anyone want to go back to the Sopwith Camel or Fokker's Triplane?
  19. Yeah! Oshkosh on the Black Sea!
  20. I am just now learning how to taxi this beauty. I should be competent enough by Saturday night (9 pm in Toronto). But, oh, she's a masterful angel in the skies! The smoke exhaust linked to throttle setting is too awesome! Eagle Dynamics and BST, I LOVE YOU BOTH!
  21. I would be very frustrated if it was withheld until into August... for whatever reason. ED said July. Don't say it if you don't mean it. But I pray to the jet turbine gods that the Sabre is flyable by the end of next week! I neeeeed this! I am so addicted to DCS and Eagle Dynamics. :pilotfly:
  22. :-/ General rule of simulator design: people want simulators not games. DCS is not a game. It's a SIMULATOR. A really good one, too.
