Setting the afterburner threshold
Igor4U replied to Crescendo's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Real AB (Full Blower) Here's how I understand many Jet Aircraft Engines equipped with Afterburner Work: - Idle to 100% RPM is the full range of Throttle Thrust without AB (in USAF, 100% RPM is referred to as Military Power, or Mil Power for Short). It ususally is not linear (example 90% RPM to 100% RPM can double your thrust in some AC). - Crossing the AB Detent into Afterburner torches JP-4/8 Fuel that gets sprayed directly into the aft can. AB is for movin-out ! Doubles your Thrust but costs 5 or 6 times the Fuel Flow. Afterburner thrust is adjustable in most cases. It functions in Stages (starting at Stage 1 for Example, and Increasing to maybe Stage 5 as an example). Again - the USAF refers to Full AB as Maximum Power (or Max Power for Short). The Engine (in most cases) remains at 100% core RMP while in Afterburner. One Problem in the afterburner range is that it presents difficulty with is fine power control (each AB Stage may represent thousands of pounds of thrust and they are either lit or not lit). I have heard of engines that can vary core RPM while in AB to allow for fine thrust control to allow maintaining formation or heavyweight aerial refueling (for example); but I believe this the exception rather than the rule. What Flight Simulators should strive for (with a Throttle like HOTAS Warthog with AB Detent Installed) is to default from Idle to 100% RPM within the Idle to AB Detent Range; and then Light AB after crossing the AB Detent - and progress in a few Stages up thru to Full MAX (in AB) Power. Last Note: A more realistic application of the AB Detent (with HOTAS Warthog) would be to have just added forward pressure (no lifting force required) to push thru the Detent into AB Range; and then a slight lifting of the Throttles to return aft over the Detent into Non-AB Range. Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working

Admitted Defeat After a Complete Un-Install and Clean Re-Install; the same Problems existed, not the least of which was "NO Mission would FLY" ! I'm conceding Defeat and waiting for next Year and my Scheduled New Machine Build. I guess modern Flight Sims demand modern Flight Machines to run them. AFTERMATH: 1. Went to print on my Ink-Jet; and something from the last two weeks of wrestling with DCS World and FC3 has corrupted my Windows interface with the Printer. Now I can't Print (although the Printer Works fine from another Computer) - See Error Dialog Box. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the Printer - Still won't Print. 2. My trusty House-Keeping Program "CCleaner" has started throwing Unhandled Exceptions to Visual Studio 2008. 3. Looks like I have a tad bit of Corruption. Better Luck to all mt New DCS World Friend BVR Igor4U ! -
Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
6-Sept-2013 ----------------- Did a Total Un-Install of DCS World and FC3. Next - Did a Clean Re-Install using the 1.6.2...263 versions of DCS World and FC3. Too Bad - Same Results. NO - CAN - FLY ! Normal Boot: - Training Videos don't Play - Missions Hang on Load or throw an Unhandled Exception Boot with /3GB Switch in Boot.ine - Launcher.exe gives a Memory Error and won't even Open Looks like I'll have to Scrap DCS World & LOMAC-FC3 until I build a New Computer Next Year ! BVR Igor4U ! -
Despite my best efforts - I was never able to get DCS World & Flaming Cliffs 3 up and flying (see): Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=112448With the new releaseof Versions 1.2.6..... I want to uninstall everything (DCS World & FC3) and do a Clean Re-Install using the new 1.2.6....263 Versions of both DCS World and FC3. My Question: Do I need to "Deactivate" FC3 before performing the UN-Install Routine ? Thanx in Advance for any Help on this ! BVR Igor4U !

Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The Saga Continues No Luck Yet (As of 5-Sept-2013): - Installed DCS World Update to Current Version: 1.2.6.17746.255_263 The Main Interface Window works OK bu NO Mission will Load & Fly ! - Ran the "Repair DCS World" Option. That went fine - but Missions still Don't Fly! - Still waiting for response from Support E-mail: team@eagle.ru - Getting to the End of my Rope with only Option to Deactivate LO FC3 and Uninstall Everything; followed by a Clean Install. - If that doesn't work, I'll have to concede that my older Flight Machine just may not be up to the task of running the current DCS World and Lock On FC3. Standby for Results BVR Igor4U ! -

Pending Help from team@eagle.ru; How many of you LOMAC Masters out there think a Complete Un-Install (of DCS World and FC3) and a complete Re-Install might be Worth my While ???? Any and All Help Appreciated ! -
This reply is in the Online Editor. Most of my other replies were pasted into Forum-Online-Editor after composing in MS Word.doc or Windows Notepad.txt. We'll see how this works. But Caution - What you See may not be what you Get! Good Point about using the Preview Function, Thanx 4 the tip ! ????? Formatting (with spaces between Sentences) screwed up again ???

Not sure what I'm doing wrong: See Example: My Post - Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=112448 In most of my Posts, the text gets all smashed together and loses all the spacing formatting that I give it when I type it into the "New Thread" or "Reply" Posting Text Boxes. Sometimes I'll compose the text in Word.doc or Notepad.txt and then paste it into the Forum Text Entry Box. It keeps the formatting until I Upload the Post - then all formatting Lost ! Any Help Appreciated - THANX BVR, Igor4U !

Trouble-Shooting Continued As of 3-Sept-2013: Normal Boot: DCS World opens but NO Mission Flies (they Freeze or produce an Unhandled Exception). "/3GB" Boot: DCS World fails to open - produces Memory Error. Trouble-Shooting Efforts: ================ 1. Turned DEP Off http://geekswithblogs.net/PsudoKnowledgeBase/archive/2009/06/03/turning-off-data-execution-prevention-dep.aspx No Difference - Still Fails. 2. Ran Memtest86 ver 4.3.2 Results: "Pass complete, no errors, ...." 3. Verified Windows XP Memory Management set to optimized Program Execution. NO SUCCESS - Still in NO FLY ZONE. Trouble-Shooting Continues. Opened Support Ticket and Waiting Response from Support E-mail: team@eagle.ru -

Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
DCS & FC3 Installed - but Can't Fly ! Thought I was making Progress. DCS World and LO FC3 are installed OK (the main control Panel works and gives me access to the sub-panels: Instant Action, Create Fast Mission, Training, Mission, etc....). I can go in and adjust all Options A-OK ! But - I cannot Fly any Missions. Here is what happens: Using normal Windows Boot: - Flying Missions hang (a about 50%) on the Load Screen Progress Bar or - I get a Visual Studio Win32 Un-handled Exception (see screen capture) or - Opening a Training Mission puts up a Video that won't Play unless I manually drag the play progress slider Booting Windows with the /3GB Switch (Boot.ini File): - DCs World won't Open. I get a Launcher.exe Application Error (see screen capture) saying "Memory cannot be Read .........." I'm starting to get the feeling that the current DCS Wolrd and Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3 are beyond the capability of my dated Flight Machine. If anyone has seen encountered these problems and solved them - I'd sure appreciate any help and advice you can offer. Many Thanks in Advance ! Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
One Install Problem Solved Ok - about the Training Downloads: - Not sure why the necessary files aren't included in the Original Downloads (it's confusing as to what / why the program is asking you to download thousands of additional MegaBytes when you've just installed the programs from the most current install files ?). - So After downloading the Install (EN), the Installation Routine was hanging up (endless loop) with a "DB Lock" (Database Lock) warning dialog box. - The key to successfully installing, is to uncheck the "Protect my Computer and Data...." Box. Very Unintuitive! Why would DCS Lock On damage your computer. - So, after wasting many hours of my ISP's downlaod bandwidth with failed attempts to install the Training Missions - I finally got it working. - My Opinion: there is room for improvement here for better installation instructions. -
Install Problems - DCS World & FC3 Not Working
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Why is all my Formatting Lost when I post - compressing Text like shown makes it very difficult to read ? Guidance anyone - THANX ! -
Preface: At first I was going to post this in: DCS World - Bugs and Problems - Installation Problems; but DCS World seemed to install OK (maybe Problem with Lock On FC3 Install int DCS World) so I decided to Post in General Discussion to get a wider variety of Looks (and hopefully Advice). DCS World and Flaming Cliffs 3 Installation Problems ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ See attached Picture of Download Files that I attempted to install (both DCS & FC3 were matched versions: 1.2.5.16508.225_241) DCS World Installed Fine in "X:\DCS World" and opened after I put "D3Dx9_43.dll" in the Windows\System 32 Folder. With DCS World open at Main Start Window: Trying to open a Mission the Screen would Hang about halfway through Loading (see screen-shot). Hang at 50% Progress Bar ?? Now I install Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3 - that seem to go OK ! The Installer puts FC3 in this Pathway: "X:\DCS World\...........". One Forum item I saw said to install separate DCS Modules using the In-Sim Module Manager. OK - How ???? But LO FC3 seemed to Load OK ! But again - loading missions hang at about 50% of the Blue Progress horizontal Load Bar.So I tried re-booting with the "/3GB" switch in my Boot.ini File. All I got was the Launcher.exe Application Failure Warning Shown (screen capture) that memory (location) could not be Read. Returned to DCS World Main Window - Open Training Mission. Training (Tasks) Missions are BLANK ! NO Training Missions in either DCS World Su-25T or FC3. Shows a Button to "Install (ENG)" ??? OK - I click it and it wants to Download Thousands of more Mega-Bytes, WHY ??? Hey - I just installed Everything (DCS World & FC3). Where's my Stuff I paid for ? Through-out this Process: DCS World and FC3 keeps asking for me to Re-Activate my FC3 with my Serial Code. Now I've used up 2 of 10 Activations. I'd like to minimize using them up just to do a Clean Install of a Valid Purchase on a perfectly capable piece of Hardware. I know my machine is dated - but it has been immaculately maintained and updated. I run X-Plane 10+ No-Problem and have used Lock On Gold for many Years. Should I uninstall everything - clean the registry - and start over ? Help if Possible - THANX ! Install Folder Management for DCS World and Modules

I need help with a very Similar Question posed by shea1980 (not replied to) Posted by shea1980 07-23-2013, 09:29 AM Installing dcs world and modules.Help http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=110377&highlight=Install Hi all,i have a question about installing dcs world. When i have dcs world installed, where do i install other modules. Do i install them in dcs world folder or just let it create a new folder?as i tryed to install dcs black shark in dcs world folder but then dcs world would not launch.Any help would be great. Thanks ================================================== My Question(s): I've purchased (download) Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3, and also downloaded DCS World (see screenshot of install files). I am ready to install them but seek additional clarification (yes - I've read http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/faq/install). I understand that the Install sequence should be: 1. DCS World 2. LO FC3 My real question is about Folder Install Creation-Management. I understand that DCS World will create the Folder Pathway: "Eagle Dynamics\DCS World" I plan to put that install folder pathway in the Root of my Solid State Drive (SSD) which is not my System (OS) Partition. So my Install pathway will look like this: "X:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World" If that's OK - then my second question becomes: Where do I install "Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3": "X:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Lock On FC3" or "X:\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On FC3" or "X:\Lock On FC3" Does it matter ?, and how will it affect LO FC3 interface with DCS World ? I know how boogered up installations can get when you have to mess with finicky and many times stubborn internet activation. That's why I would like to go about this the recommended way, and use proper install & internet activation protocol ? Any Help will be greatly appreciated ! BVR Igor4U !

Howdy DCS-World LOMACers, Newbie (to DCS-ED Forums) here. I've been flying Lock On Gold with Flaming Cliffs 1.1 since 2006. I love the high fidelity cockpits, and spot-on flight model performance; and am now looking to upgrade to Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3. What caught my attention immediately on LOMAC's Authentic Realism was the light reflections showing the Spider Cracks on the inside of the cockpit looking out through the canopies. That's exactly what they look like - Awesome ! I have an older, but still capable flight machine that meets minimum systems requirements for FC3: - Windows XP Pro - Intel P45 Chipset - Core 2-Duo E8500 - AMD Radeon HD 6870 2GB - 4 GB G-Skill DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) ** will use /3GB Switch in Boot.ini ** - 300GB Velociraptor - 1TB Seagate - 250GB Samsung 840 SSD I will be building new next year (2014) with a decent budget to work with. ======================================================== My Question: My current build has multiple Drives, each with multiple partitions. I have my original Lock On Gold and Flaming Cliffs 1.1 installed on my Windows System Partition on a Hard Disk Drive (the WD Velociraptor). But, I'd like to install Lock On Flaming Cliffs 3 onto my Solid State Drive (SSD). Will the install recognize that I have the original Lock On installed on my machine (but on a different drive) ? Or do I have to install FC3 on the same Drive-Partition Location where the original LOMAC lives ? Any Help Appreciated ! BVR Igor4U ! :D
