Free or Purchase ? Sorry - I'm a bit short on details. But I've been hearing about DCSW2 for a year or more and haven't come across the answer to this Question. Will DCSW2 and NTTR and SoH Maps be Free Upgrades, or available for Purchase ($$$) ? *** Please excuse my Naivety - I know ED is a For Profit Endeavor ! DCS World 2 Each day we are making more progress in moving DCS World 2. Since the previous newsletter, the team has made great progress on AI landing logic, an all-new multiplayer interface that includes such features as Favorites and Filters, new smoke effects, improvements to the lighting and shadows, replaced the general ground texture with a higher resolution one, increased new terrain graphics performance, the ability to load and work with different maps in the Mission Editor, improvements to the Graphical User Interface (GUI), dedicated server, and a new protection system. DCS W2: Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) Map We are further improving the Nevada map and moving it closer to Alfa. Items being worked on include adding the various TACAN and VORTAC stations, improving the mountain textures, improving ground object shadowing, and adding collision models to most ground objects. DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map When not working on the Nevada map, our map team is making steady progress on the Strait of Hormuz Map. Most of the airfields are now placed and a great deal of work is being done on manually improving the elevation mesh and textures. However, this map still has a long way to go with items such as airfield taxi routing, water textures, airbase lighting, ground object placement, navigation aids, and ATC still needed to be addressed. ====================================== Edit: Answered DCS News Letter (June-2015) When the map is available as an open Alpha, our plan is to still make this map available for free to those that purchased A-10C Warthog while it was in beta (prior to 21 February 2011). It will also be available for purchase from our e-shop for $39.99 USD.

Back Up - Code 1 Built a new Rig in June-2014. Have made 3 significant Upgrades: My Christmas 2014 Present to myself was an Intel Core i7 4790K. Slapped that in without incident. But a May-2015 Birthday Present to myself (GeFore GTX Titan X) and also added another 16GB RAM (32GB Total now), caused my MiG-21 BiS to throw a Fit ! Thankfully this Thread saved my Bacon. Used another Activation, but I'm OK with that. My only suggestion would be a little more thorough step-by-step instructions (maybe manual editing) for those MiG-21 Pilots who aren't too familiar with messin with Regedit. Cheers ! ;)

Thanks Fellers - Copy All ! Need more Stick Time to be familiar with the Clues of impending departure. Part of my problem is that I fight Air-to-Air from Chase View and don't hear Cockpit Noises and don't sense the visible Buffet of the Air-frame from a Pilot's Perspective. I use Chase View for Dog-Fighting simply because it's easier to keep the opponent is sight (using HOTAS View controls). Come to think of it - I wouldn't hear an Aural AoA tone anyway being outside the Aircraft. Guess it's time for me to start flying in the Pilot's Seat. Edit: Just verified what you'll told me. Exactamundo ! Great Pre-Stall/Departure Buffet telling you to quit pulling on the pole & think I heard the Gun Whistle too ! THANX !

Howdy Stangers ! I enjoy Dog-Fighting that Pesky German in his FW-190. But as I try to square the corners trying to keep said Bandit in sight; I lkose track of my exact energy state. Without Force Feedback and other real world clues (Noise, seat of the pants, etc...), I can reach or exceed Stall AoA and the Mustang has a quick and snappy departure. Easy to recover, but now I have to regain energy and make up lost angles on the German. Questions: - Did the real P-51D have an Aural AOA indicator or Stall Warning that would help the pilot while he was eyes outside straining to keep sight ? - Are there any Plugins for DCS World Birds that add that feature (Aural Tone as you reach High AoA telling you stop pulling on the pole) ? THANX ! PS: The bottom of the screen readout on Airspeed and Altitude is Helpful, but an Aural Tone for the P-51D would keep that German Pilot awake at Night !

Changes to Default Liveries - Deleted by Updates ?
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I was putting any new Liveries I download in these locations: 1. Primary Path (if the aircraft is listed in this folder): DCS World\Bazar\Liveries\Aircraft\Livery if aircraft not in above folder, I'd put the new Livery here: 2. Alternate Path if Aircraft not listed in Path 1: Dcs World\CoreMods\aircraft\Aircraft\Liveries\Aircraft\Livery It wasn't that my new Downloaded Liveries were disappearing - it was that the Default Missions (QuickStart and Single) that I changed the Livery for are over-written (back to original) after Updating. Now I understand where those Backup Folders (_backup.000 thru 005) are coming from. I'll look into JSGME, and until I get that up & running, guess I can just manually copy the Modded Missions (in backup folders) back to where the mission live: .......\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\aircraft\Missions\EN\(Single or QuickStart, etc..) * And after an Update - Assume I can safely delete previous Backup Folder(s) (Since a new one is generated by current Update) -
Seems like whenever there is an Update to DCS World, I lose all my Changes to the Default Liveries (for the preset Default Missions). Updates rewrite Missions back to all original Default parameters - Yes ? So if I want those same Missions with my selected (other than Default) Liveries, I'm guessing that I'll have to rename (and then Save) those new Missions. Can someone more expert than me confirm ? THANX !

Like a U-2 "Dragon Lady" at FL700 Heard it said that they (at operational altitudes) operate in a very small window (like 5 Knots Indicated) between Stall Speed and Mach Buffet onset.

Congratulation to Leatherneck Simulations (now I may have missed this previously at 1.2.15) but with my successful update to DCS World 1.2.16.37730.701 today I noticed: The MiG-21bis Module went Final - it is now longer listed as a Beta Module on the Start Page (Main Menu)!

After adding the MiG-15bis a couple weeks ago, I just now went back to crank up my MiG-21. No MiG-21 Missions available in Instant Action, Fast Mission or Mission. I can see the MiG-21bis Aircraft Folder and files in Windows Explorer. I see the MiG-21 Module in Module Manager (Installed) Any ideas of what got corrupted here and how to fix ? Thanx ! BVR Igor4U !

Think I Got it - OK ! Here's what I was missing on Snap View: I knew how to set: 1. Set View you Want 2. Assign Snap View to NumPad Number: LWin + Num# 3. Save Snap View: RAlt + Num0 4. To Use SnapView Mode (toggle in/out): RCtrl + Num0 - then hit you SnapView Number (View you Want) Notes: In SnapView Mode - you cannot Zoom or Pan. View is Fixed. That's OK for me when Landing. *** I had never known you have to toggle into and out-of Snap View Mode. I thought that (in flight) you just hit the Number (SnapView) you want ??? ================================================= How to Create New Snap Views http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124975&highlight=Snap+Views thinkr wrote: I figured it out thanks for the support. 1.2.8 didn't change much thought it did make it easier. Not much File Editing involved except set: DisableSnapViewsSaving = true Within this file: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\View\View.lua SnapViews.lua Gets automatically created by DCS in the C:\Users\[uSER]\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View Folder when you save a snap view. RCtrl+Num0 Changes snap views to "toggle" mode.

Need a Landing View Well "--" (double-dashing) out the default SnapView Code didn't work. I'm trying to personalize Snap View 8 (Num7). There are differences between my UserAccount-Saved Games and the MiG-15bis Views in terms of SnapView8 [7] Snap View 8 (uses NumPad Number 7) In C:\Users\UserAccount\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\SnapViews.lua [8] = {--LWin + Num7 : Snap View 7 viewAngle = 95.869705,--FOV hAngle = 0.000000, vAngle = -5.927970, x_trans = -0.000804, y_trans = 0.011892, z_trans = -0.069129, rollAngle = 0.000000, In C:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-15bis\Views.lua [8] = head_pos_default({ viewAngle = 99.106483,--FOV hAngle = 131.835434, vAngle = -7.700000, x_trans = 0.116748, y_trans = 0.040000, z_trans = -0.063734, rollAngle = 0.000000,}),--LWin + Num7 : Snap View 7 - Left Wing BUT - IT Aint Working ! Hey Belsimtek - Need a little Help- here - Please ! No matter what I do - NumPad #7 (SnapView8) gives me 10:30 o'Clock High View. Attaching Picture. So if SnapViews (in MiG-15bis) are not configurable; how about giving us a Landing View (some button or key) where we can see: - Forward by being Left of the Gunsight - Slightly Elevated to see over the Nose - Still have VVI scale (0 to -15 meters/sec) in sight Thank You !
-
Thanks Razorback ! Copy All. DCS World has its own View files that are Default. They are located here: C:\DCS World\Config\View\(both View.lua and SnapViewsDefault.lua) You should not modify those 2 default 'View' files. I understand that when you make Snap View changes (while flying in DCS World), yes - it is supposed to save those changes in this pathway (specific to your User Account): C:\Users\UserAccount\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\SnapViews.lua What I'm saying is that those changes are NOT being saved. Setting personalized SnapViews (using normal procedures) wasn't working for me. My MiG-15bis would not accept a change to its default Snap View. Then I noticed that Belsimtek Birds have a file called Views.lua in their Aircraft Folders: C:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-15bis\Views.lua C:\DCS World\CoreMods\aircraft\MiG-15bis\Views.lua These particular Views.lua files have Snap Views defined in their Code. Normally, Snap Views are defined in the file called SnapView.lua (in Users-Saved Games). I suspect that this dedicated Views.lua file is hard-wiring (hard-coding) the Snap Views for Belsimtek Birds - and Users can't change them ? Some of my other Aircraft (for example: Leatherneck Sim's MiG-21bis) do NOT have a Views.lua file in their Aircraft Folder. The Belsimtek F-86 has a very handy Auto-View function that when you lower the landing Gear the Cockpit (looking forward) View changes to a View that is optimized for landing the aircrfat. The Seat is evelvated to look over the nose better and the Views also allows for nice cross-check of Airspeed and VVI. But Belsimtek (as far as I know) did NOT code in a special Landing View for the MiG-15. So what I'm trying to do is set a Snap View for the MiG-15bis (as shown in initial Post) to be used in Landing Phase of Flight. Sure - I can O'Pause' and adjust View for every time I'm coming in for a landing - but setting a Snap View is the easiest way to do this. So I'm gonna work the problem a little more and see what I come up with. PS: I may "--" double-dash out one of their pre-defined Snap Views in their Views.lua file, and then try to set a personalized Snap View that will take in Saved Games.

After adjusting, I found a View that works well for me for landing the MiG-15bis. I Narrow the Field of View (Zooming In) from default "5", and Shift it Left and slighty Up (elevated) to keep a clear view of the Runway. I also manage to keep the 0 to -15 Meters/sec Scale in view on the VVI. But the normal method of setting a Snap View is Not Working: - (LWin + NumN) then (RAlt + Num0) - DisableSnapViewsSaving = false and UseDefaultSnapViews = false (are set in Views.lua) Then I noticed that the MiG-15 had its own preset (Hard-Wired) Snap Views (Views.lua in main MiG-15bis Folder) that seem to take precedence over Account User Saved Games DCS - Config-View-SnapViews.lua Settings. This seems unique to the MiG-15, other aircraft don't have there own from what I can see. The MiG-15bis does not want to save my Lnading SnapView. This causes me to pause the Sim to set the landing picture. I tried disabling the number of the Default SnapView in the MiG-15bis Folder that I wanted to reserve for my Landing SnapView. That didn't seem to work. Any Ideas on how to set my Landing View ? Thanx ! BVR Igor4U !

Red Flag Lessons Learned (2008) F-15C vs Su-30MKI Hey - for you Dogfighters out there, I found this (slightly dated from 2008 but still) very interesting. A behind the scenes (or should I say in the Fur-Ball) look at Legacy Fighter (F-15C) capabilities against a modern 4+ Generation Sukhoi Flanker Series Fighter (Su-30MKI). USAF pilot describes IAF Su-30MKI performance at Red Flag-08 http://www.flightglo...ibes-iaf-su30m/ An unnamed US Air Force officer, who is obviously a Nellis F-15 pilot, lectures an audience with incredible details about the Indian Air Force Su-30MKI performance at Red Flag 2008. Both videos were posted yesterday on YouTube by an anonymous contributor, who identifies himself only as an Australian (God bless ‘em!). If you have any interest in tactical aircraft at all, you must watch these two videos. Toggling Labels On/Off during Aerial Combat
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Still No Joy (with modding Label Key Commands) correctionThanks Milli, But I'd like to see if I can modify any DCS World internal lua script before going with a 3rd Party external script-er (with which I'm not familiar). I tried adding (Label On/Off) commands associated to buttons on my Joystick - but the Sim just ignored them. It's as if DCS World Label Commands are Hard-Coded in the Background and can't be changed. I located some lua script that might be amenable to editing: C:\DCS World\Config\Input\Aircrafts\Default\keyboard\default.lua (line 344-348) -- Labels {combos = {{key = 'F10', reformers = {'LShift'}}}, down = iCommandMarkerState, name = 'All Labels', category = 'Labels'}, {combos = {{key = 'F2', reformers = {'LShift'}}}, down = iCommandMarkerStatePlane, name = 'Aircraft Labels', category = 'Labels'}, {combos = {{key = 'F6', reformers = {'LShift'}}}, down = iCommandMarkerStateRocket, name = 'Missile Labels', category = 'Labels'}, {combos = {{key = 'F9', reformers = {'LShift'}}}, down = iCommandMarkerStateShip, name = 'Vehicle & Ship Labels', category = 'Labels'}, If editing the "All Labels" script is possible with a Single Key Command; anyone with the know-how - I'd be grateful if you re-write that line and Post it here ! THANX ! -
Toggling Labels On/Off during Aerial Combat
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Toggling Labels On/Off is Working (but can't change key assignment) OK - I got it ! With Labels On (checkbox checked in GamePlay), each mission starts with Labels On; and then you can toggle Off and back On with the default Labels Key Commands. My Problem is this: - In the middle of an Air-to-Air Engagement, I'd like to shorten the Keyboard Key Commands from the Dual-Key Combos (the default settings) to a Single (easily reachable) Key. - The Default Settings are cumbersome in that you need sequential dual key commands and the keys are not easy to reach in a quick fluid hand movement (Example: LShift + F10). - I tried changing Aircraft Labels Off/On (LShift + F2) to a Single (No-Conflict) Key. It changes OK in settings - but it doesn't Function. The Change doesn't work. After changing to a single key (or a dual key sequence that is easier to reach), not only doesn't the change work - but the Default Key Commands still Work ????? Has anyone had Luck changing the Label Key Commands ? PS: This isn't the 1st time my DCS World Install wouldn't accept a Default Key Command Change. The View Frame Rate (RCtrl + Pause) would not work with any Key Changes I tried. -
Toggling Labels On/Off during Aerial Combat
Igor4U replied to Igor4U's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Hey Fellers - Thanx 4 the Info ! Will give that a Try. BVR Igor4U ! PS: I'm Stick & Throttlin with a HOTAS Warthog, sure I can find a spare button tp program with the Label On/Off function -
I know how to enable labels always On or always Off: Options - Gameplay - Labels Checkbox This Works Fine ! ......... but what I'd like, is the ability to Toggle Labels On/Off as needed during Flight (Aerial Combat) without stopping and returning to the Options section. Here was one pathway I thought might work: Options - Controls - Layer/General - Category/Labels - Aircraft Labels = LShift+F2 So I tried to change the keyboard command (LShift+F2) to a simpler single key (I tried a few different ones - no conflicts), but Aircraft Labels would not toggle On/Off. So I set the command back to Default (LShift+F2), and tried that; but again my Labels would not toggle On or Off. Question: is there a way to toggle Labels On and Off during Flight ?
