Backer rewards page - seems incorrect
Altflieger replied to kevman's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Paid $50 for alpha access but no mention of it on my reward page, just sayin' , I'll check back in a few days maybe it'll have sorted itself out by then :) -
What about the ones built in a tunnel factory in Czechoslavakia?

Sources for aircraft behaviour outside the manuals?
Altflieger replied to Wissam24's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Perhaps the Germans didn't know about that...... "Trying is the first step towards failure" Homer Simpson -
"Two weeks be sure" ....DCSWW2 ! Seems the likely logo :)

With the exception of possibly Kurfurst's site, none of the sites listed give any production figures for any version of the 109. The 109lair site hasn't been updated for six years. Curious as to why, other than K's site, you think they have any credibility concerning production figures or the 109 for that matter? Also why. if these 12OCH figures had been listed by these sites you'd think they'd become more credible?
-
"noting that none of them have been reproduced on any dedicated 109 websites" These would be?

It should also be noted that the developers of BOS have made very clear they are developing a game, and if it's expedient to leave out certain details for playability they will. That's why I'm here and not there. Still I wish them the best,

Sorry bit useless adding images! The above is diagram of mw50 installation, works like so. Air is drawn from II (bottom left) along NW6 valve inline permits tank to be pressurised to 0.6 ata over outside air pressure. Mw50 switch upper centre 'arms' system by supplying power to V44 (lower left). Moving throttle lever past 100% completes circuit and mw50 along nw10 enters blower via I (centre left). Manometer must read 0.6 to use the system. IIRC this is from G14 installation but think K4 would have been the same (see Kurfurst),

For yoyo, Daimler Benz patent for the hydraulic coupling for engine and the blower. http://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/biblio?DB=worldwide.espacenet.com&II=0&ND=3&adjacent=true&locale=en_EP&FT=D&date=19390825&CC=GB&NR=511858A&KC=A Gives details of operation.

I take it you read the link I posted? I was posting from memory and admit I was wrong about the reversion to 100/130, as it says they reverted back to the original 100/150 mix losing the extra lead, which had caused problems not only with spark plugs but valve seats and according to some units the engines rubber seals and caused the occassional crash on take off. This is all in the link I posted. The main point I was trying to make was that 150 fuel had pluses and minuses and the whine was for only the positives with no consideration for any negatives. It was US field commanders complaining about the time they spent in the shop not me. In game if we have 100/150 mustangs I don't have a problem with that, but wouldn't you agree that the pilot should have to use a blast of high revs to clean the plugs periodically as they did historically? More pilot workload and something else to remember with consequences modelled ingame if they don't? Every sim so far has undermodelled allied pilot workload and minimised the great advantage of German fighters which had only a power lever with all other engine controls automated and linked to it. So forgive me if I'm somewhat peeved by the p51 won the war crowd who want not only the cake but to eat it as well when historically the situation wasn't that clear cut. As a 109 driver I'm thinking they'll be in for something of a shock meeting a properly modelled 109k4 which was just as fast, had better weapons and could outclimb them by a 1000ft a minute. Then the real whinning will start :)

Three American, Three German, One British aircraft...
Altflieger replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The US Army awards North American Aircraft a contract for the conversion of two P-51 aircraft to XP-78s using Packard Merlin engines with two stage superchargers: July 25th, 1942. Horseback. This isn't true. All of this, if, possibly, logical, is whataboutery. Packard did not make two stage merlins until Dec42. The two US prototypes were powered by Rolls Royce engines sent from the UK. It was not the USAAF's remit to order Merlins from Packard until a licensing deal had been signed between Packard and Rolls Royce. If as I asked, you have any evidence of any American, anywhere on the planet, prior to April 1942 suggesting putting a 66 merlin on the front of a mustang, please share it with us. -

You girls should get a room. I saw them play live at Leeds warehouse 1983. Can we get on? -

Horseback, Huh? The idea for putting a Merlin 60 series engine into the Mustang airframe was taken up practically simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic in mid 1942 Source? Who exactly in the good 'ol USA are you talking about? -
If you'd read Shaw's book you'd understand that in 1944 they didn't have the concepts of corner speed or doghouse plots (not beyond the factory). DCS manual is exactly what pilots got given then. If it was good enough for them it's good enough for you:). You better get used to reading some of the people you'll be up against have libraries of technical stuff and have been reading for ten years plus. There are no short cuts, end of. Even for simmers!

Ilya talking about SDK. (Did anyone watch the updates?) Almazi was asking for aerial photos with geotiff data. Ilya mentions putting in surface data in video. He did mention elsewhere that the SDK is open source and that there were things they'd have to change before release. Ilya writing the guide for it. ETA end October?

Dogfight maneuvers and gunnery guides?
Altflieger replied to Bucic's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Short guide to football: Place ball at feet and kick. Do you think that covers it? That's why there's no short guides to air combat. Even Shaw doesn't claim to cover every eventuality. Worth reading if you can find a copy, good for insomnia:) Otherwise, don't let them get behind you and if they do get out of the way. -
Almazi, this may interest you http://www.ronaldv.nl/abandoned/airfields/FR/index.html Airfields constructed by allies immediately after d-day, aerial photos and diagrams of field and runways, some construction photos. See Lower Normandy.

It's true i tell ya! It was on the history channel! -
I'll bet you're one of the few though. You're latter point also true :) but imagine how much harder it'll be for someone used to that? Standing still after just a 5000ft zoom climb. Like I say, looking forward to shooting them down. :D

Altflieger replied to Avimimus's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Doesn't a certain company have copyright on that one? With no ships or planes it'll be a bit boring. We haven't taken off yet in this one, and you're complaining?:) -

Think we're going to need a bigger map before more planes, but the mossie would be fun, 2 merlins = twice as sexy? -
Me-262 within reach - will you get it?

Brit bombers carried more bombs? Lancasters could carry 10 000lbs bomb loads. Raf had more bombers than USAF? UK at war two years before they arrived? Don't honestly know the answer but suspect it's true.
