Why so much negativity? A Phantard Speaks.
aztec01 replied to Aussie_Mantis's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The short answer to the OP as to why so much negativity? Because, we are by nature, grognards, "grumblers" , Not necessarily a bad thing, it's what we do. There are some misconceptions though. The Phantom was not first announced in 2022. It was FIRST announced somewhere around 2017 by Belsimtek. There were a couple of development shots and then stone dead silence. ED did everything they could to hide it except say it was vaporware. Gradually it was grudgingly leaked that it was shelved for maybe a later time. So it was, in reality, vaporware. Mind you, we got all the zot and lazer fighters afterwards, but the big open sore in ED was the shutdown of the Rhino for...the Christen Eagle, the I-16 and the Yak-52 etc. It's left a bad taste and, until it is actually on my hard drive, I have little confidence that it will be actually on delivered. So, we grumble. Then Heatblur announces they were picking up the mantle and...more silence. Not debating the devs philosophy, but, we've been here before. I take each reveal with a grain of salt. I NEVER believed a 2022 release date, and with the interminable delays of Razbam's super premium zot bot, the Strike Eagle, I can't help but think that ED will delay the release of the Phantom until 4-6 months after the SE because, truth is, some of us only have so much money to spend (ED stridently denies it). So I am HOPING to see a first half 2024 release of the Phantom. I have been playing this family of sims since the original "Flanker" was first introduced in 1995 by SSI. I am old and have been waiting for the natural evolution of the Flanker family to include the mighty Phantom ever since LOMAC. Why they couldn't toss in a Flaming Cliffs version of the Phantom years ago is beyond me, so I grumble. I grumble because as my time grows shorter and the delays grow longer, my dream of flying the Phantom in my living room before I go west just gets farther and farther away. Since I am actually OLDER than the Phantom, and it was my first and most enduring love, I declare that I have a right (maybe even duty) to grumble. -
Jeebus, I was testing whether my MIM-104 set up was even working (It wasn't on the Guam map). Over three completed tests with a Patriot battery and some SHORAD against a single Tu-22M3 flying directly at the battery, the Patriot launched 29 missiles and achieved exactly ZERO hits/none/NADA/zilch! The breakdown was 13/8/8 for a kill rate of 0% Several missiles exploded right after launch. Many exploded way too early, and of the ones that got close (VERY close) never triggered the proximity fuse The SHORAD (Avengers) launched a total of 14 Stingers and achieved three hits/2 kills 7/5/2 for a kill rate of 21% For sh*ts and giggles: I switched sides S-300 vs B1B 1 shot/1 kill The Patriot system is AWFUL in DCS! I'd have more luck with a slingshot and 5 smooth stones!

That's a wonderful post and perfectly encapsulates what I meant. Thank you, it's very well done. On the Persian Gulf map with one, maybe two exceptions I had to "build" a list of targets, cobbling together the in game structures to vaguely resemble an electrical generation system (including the nuke at Bushehr) It's particularly nice that the PG/Iran map is blissfully full of high tension wires! I don't expect ED to specifically model the details of each power plant, but it would be nice to have a selection of generic plants and substations so that we could add them as strategic targets. I truly, TRULY appreciate the work the devs have put into making these highly detailed maps. I have spent hours "driving" through Beirut, Damascus, Guam, and Normandy et al, marveling at how much effort went into these maps. The detail is amazing, but you also begin to appreciate there are warts too. I love the added details in map upgrades with really cool castles, and other points of interest....but what I would really like to see more of is strategic targets. Granted, we don't have a Ruhr/Essen map, but surely their are some larger factory complexes , storehouses, depots and all that could be simulated also. Your post was excellent and I've bookmarked it for further study. Thank you, again.

Can a few power stations be added. They would make great strategic targets. I've cobbled a few together in the past from pieces/parts of the static menu, but it would be a worthy addition to make a couple of dedicated stations, substations et al.

(Furiously looking up the term)

Took a HMMMV on a road tour from PGUA to the naval base (to inspect my troops dontcha know), and the bridges do not appear to support user generated traffic. The vehicle drove through the bridge approach, down into the creekbed/ravine and drove up the other side and popped out the other side. I know it has been a problem on other maps in the past (Caucasus infamously). Seems to be a problem here

Thank's! Here are the lead in lights pointed down runway 06R And, looking up the 06R approach 06R displaced threshold lights oriented correctly Also the 24L lead in lights pointed down 24L instead of up the approach path (file size exceeded). Hope this helps. Love the map! Oh, and you may be correct about the REIL, I've always thought the whole system of lights were referred to as the REIL.

One of the YT contributors ran a large anti-ship mission with many dozens of air and sea launched Harpoons. The vast majority of the air launched Harpoons (AI) dove straight into the water, the remainder focused on one ship until it was dust, and then switched to another target and did the same until it too, was pulverized into atoms.

The REIL ON PGUA: The lead in lights for 06R are pointed in the wrong direction and are sequencing outbound, likewise the REIL for 06L is facing the wrong direction. The REIL for 24L are also facing the wrong direction. Lead in lights to 24R are CORRECTLY oriented and sequencing . Only seems to be a problem at PGUA, however, some of the REIL at does not appear to be on at night at other airports. Lawdy does this map look good at night!

Thanks for the replies. Truth be told, I only have about 7 hours in the F86 now, and am just beginning to learn it's good points and it's vagaries. All my issues are with missions I have generated on the editor. Just trying to get from point A-B, landing, some basic gunnery, switchology and the like. I believe the ARC-27 issue is a key-mapping problem. But, if I activate the radio switch on the throttle I can now contact the appropriate frequencies programmed into the radio. NAV? Let's just say I'm not ready for heavy weather yet. I remembered reading about the ADF not being modeled, and I meant to say "radio compass". I apologize for the misunderstanding. Having a devil of a time trying to tune it while in flight and it always points someplace else. (Learning the Morse codes too) And, the generator thing? I learned that after I posted my original question. Thank you again for giving me some ideas

Being working hard on learning the F86. Having trouble with the radios though. On the ARC-27 I can contact ATC on startup/takeoff but afterwards cannot contact them inbound for landing (Vaziani->Anapa), (Anapa-> Sukhumi),(Sukhumi ->Vaziani) I used (I thought) the appropriate switchology and frequency settings (T/R, T/R-G, and the correct preset) Any idea? Secondly, I've tried to tune in the ADF, and can certainly pickup the station (Morse and everything), but the ADF direction indicator doesn't work, even with switch to ADF) Again, any ideas? Got to learn how to do the emergency gear release on the last mission! :-D

Starting with AI aircraft visible
aztec01 replied to aztec01's topic in User Created Missions General
Thank you so much! I'll get on it! -
I'm trying to create a mission using an air corridor in an evacuation mission, premised on an impending invasion by Russian forces. I want to evacuate a large number of civil and military aircraft out of Tblisi/Vaziani with more aircraft movements to and fro between airbases as well as supply missions from off map. Player mission is to protect the corridor. I want, for example, to send 4 UK C-130's and 2 Yak-40's out of Tbllisi in 5 min increments and through the corridor to safety. but I sure would like to have them all on the map at the same time before departure. As it is, they appear one at a time instead of magically popping up at engine start (There may also be a missile strike on the base and they might become targets...not sure yet) How do I do that? I've got some simple flight plans in already and they are working well. I'd just like to see more active aircraft. Any help/ideas?:helpsmilie:

Mustang First Take-Off and Landing: Post your Tracks/Vids
aztec01 replied to 159th_Viper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Woohoo! Landed BOTH the P51 AND the UH1 for the first time to-nite! P51: Short final, chopped the throttle over the threshold, flattened my descent and it glided to the runway, no bounce, gear and wings intact! (I've gone through several sets of both up till now! Also looked at a lot of grass through the remnants of my canopy) UH1? wrong forum....sorry, but while my landings didn't equal my takeoffs, they did outnumber the crashes. YESSSSSSSS!!!
