  1. In FSX a very basic auto generated global scenery was available to everyone, that could be expanded with high detail add ons. But even 10 years ago MS had to charge 60 $ every two years to finance it. I don't think that there will be perfect solution for DCS, that pleases all groups, anytime soon. It will all depend on the development cost of future maps. I can imagine that workload per map could decrease drastically if they can auto generate large portions from geodata and once they have 3D object libraries for various time periods and regions. Also DCS customer base could expand together with more varied content becoming available. Thus more sales per module could allow for lower prices or subsidized maps. I will almost certainly buy many more maps than aircraft in future. With study sim level F4U, F/A-18 and Harrier coming I will get almost everything at that level I always hoped for. Already in FSX, without any combat, I enjoyed it much more to simply explore the world from the air than learning to master new planes all the time.
  2. My bet would be a North Cape - Murmansk map and a Cold War gone hot campaign. The area also saw a lot of fighting in WW2.
  3. If LN (and partners?) indeed plan to fully model Pacific theater of WW2 in the next few years the F4U-1 is indeed the better choice. I would not have expected such a bold move after all the delays with EDGE and DCS WW2: Europe 1944. But pacific island maps can probably built rather quickly once they are familiar with the process and have a decent library of 3D period objects available.
  4. Merry Christmas! Nice to see the Viggens still flying south despite the warm winter in Europe. Take all the time you need to turn the F4U into something special.
  5. There are some exceptions, like civil variants of military planes or aircraft with a strong military connection (Dc-3, or Ju-52), but generally I don't think any civil aircraft other than helicopters will work well in DCS right now. Not without much more an larger maps. For me a large part of the attraction of FSX was that I had an entire world to explore. I did cross the Sahara in a DC-3 and loved the fly GA planes over highly detailed landscapes. Especially enjoyed Aerosofts VFR Germany photo scenery, in which I could navigate through the landscapes I knew from the ground. While flying helicopters cities like Las Vegas or Abu Dhabi and their hinterland are large enough for countless hours of interesting flying. But anything faster would quickly show the limits of the platform. What would be the worth of some highly detailed airliner add on and International airport if their is no destination to fly to? Currently resources should be spend to create an decent environment for WW2 planes, before starting with modern airliners or GA planes. Progress on this in DCS is already slow enough.
  6. Great News! Two late war versions that will fit well into DCS WWII: Europe 1944.
  7. Since the differences between them aren't very big I hope that we will get all three post Birdcage versions of the F4U-1.
  8. I hope there will be at least some kind of Christmas update. They must have something substantial to show off by now if they believed that they could release the Corsair this year.
  9. The post Guadalcanal stages of the Salomons campaign offer lots of opportunities for shorter missions. Russell Islands and New Georgia or Vella Lavella and Bougainville are very conveniently distanced from each other.
  10. It is not that simple. Although the Focke Wulf has superior ergonomics the raw performance numbers of F4U-1 series and Fw-190D9 are about equal. For me it looks like it will be a fair fight. http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/f4u/f4u.html http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/fw190/fw190d9test.html

    DCS: F-5E!

Some of the most successful fighters of that era, like the Mirage III series and its derivatives carried just two heatseakers + guns. I doubt that will be a real disadvantage, except when fighting heavily outnumbered.
  12. Supporting three different versions of DCS World at the same time surely doesn't make things easier for them.
  13. LN already announced two variants of the Tomcat, thus multiple Corsairs shouldn't be out of question either.
  14. It should be a no brainer for them to make the F4U-4 or other late variants in future, personally I hope to see the F4U-5N one day. A lot of work can be reused and it would work well with the existing Sabre and Mig-15. I actually expected the F4U-4 first since it was used both in late WW2 and Korea, and shared its power plant with the F4U-7 that could be used on the possible Vietnam or Middle East map.
  15. The F4U is my all time favorite aircraft. I am so glad to get one in DCS soon™. The attack Viggen also looks like a very interesting machine to fly.
  16. Indeed the new engine and map looks like a true masterpeice so far. I just dived the F-15 from 50k feet down to street level directly over Las Vegas. It felt completely natural and fluid, nothing was suddenly pooping up or looked strange in any way.
