  1. The fighter bomber F8 and G8 variants, that were once planned, would be a good start.
  2. All of the RN FAA air attacks against the Tirpitz were planed and carried out with the element of surprise as a crucial part of the plan. Once the smokescreen obscured the Tirpitz in the narrow fjord the probability to hit the ship was far to low. There was no time for the Germans to scramble fighters and intercept the raids except by chance.
  3. The distance from Roi (Kwajalein Atol) to Wotje flown by Lindbergh with the 4000 lb loadout is about 165 nm. Thus this is the minium combat radius we can expect. It was a day with favorable winds to get the F4U of the ground.
  4. The Corsair behind the Spitfire has the antennas of a french F4U-7 and it looks like also the 20 mm cannons and four bladed prop.
  5. A new one: 1956 Suez Crisis French livery.
  6. Another one. Thus modern Marianas map is still used for these screenshots.
  7. There are still two months left. The update gave me enough hope to deem a christmas release possible.
  8. Large progress report on their homepage: https://magnitude-3.com/2023/11/04/2023-annual-update/?fbclid=IwAR2aHdYifz5tRC1eb7Xz4DJrzGFzveW8oTZX5D25XF_5IrAf5xlh5bRR1Pk
  9. Let's hope so. That are exactly the kind of hints and riddles I would expect from Magnitude.
  10. Since virtually no other 3rd party dev, except OctopusG, is making WW2 fighters for DCS I fear sadly no one. There are dozens of iconic WW2 planes besides the F4U other devs could have done, yet even 11 years after the P-51 was released we only have the ED birds and soon two Russian fighters.
  11. I was a WW2 backer and Channel map owner. Could upgrade to Normandy 2 for 9,99 $ without any problems.
  12. That at least is the one thing I don't fear. The devs could have released the F4U years ago, with old damage model and 3D model, questionable flight model etc., but they clearly aim for perfection and have no hurry or pressure to have it finished by a fixed date.
  13. F6Fs even flew during the Normandy invasion too. From HMS Emperor covering the flank of the invasion fleet.
  14. From my impression interest in WW2 aviation has waned considerably in the last 15 years and is nowhere near the level it was during the heyday of Il-2 and CFS2/3. Cold War aircraft seem to fill this niche now, especially in DCS. Maybe people are more interested in planes they know from their childhood or which their fathers and grandfathers flew or worked with.
  15. I am sure once we have a release date there will be more support.
  16. New screenshot with a better view of the AI Zero in action (from Facebook):
  17. Northwest Field was built after the US reconquered Guam and only became operational in 1945. It shouldn't be there on a summer 1944 map.
  18. It will be a summer 1944 map based on pre-invasion data:
  19. Yes there is indeed, landing gear and hook controls are inter-locked. The US manual (the excerpt is from the British Corsair Pilots manual) also recommends to place the arrestor hook lever in the parking position during combat, to prevent the lose of hydraulic fluid due to possible combat damage.
  20. Making a version of the plane that is appropriate for the map we will get.
  21. Settings are Neutral - Low - High, from sea level to altitude. About F4U-1 super charger control:

    The four hog

This could be a good project in maybe 5 to 10 years from now, when the ever evolving nature of DCS might make an upgrade of the F4U desirable. Selling a new variant could cover the costs. The F4U-4 not only has a more powerful engine, but also a completely redesigned more ergonomical cockpit, with some systems, as the intercooler or oilcooler flap controls automatized. Thus it would require more modeling and coding time than maybe apparent on the first glance.
  23. The Spitfire has a very limited range compared to naval fighters as the F6For F4U, which carry more than twice the internal fuel of an Spitfire. During heavy ordnance test in September 1944 land based MAG-31 F4U-1Ds flew strike missions with three 1000lb bombs or even two 1000lb and one 2000lb bombs from Roi to Wotje in the Marshall islands, which are about 150 NM apart. The hellcat is only slightly larger than the F4U and has the same engine. It should be able of similar feats.
