[RESOLVED] AIM-54 inconsistency with CFD whitepaper
JNelson replied to dundun92's topic in Bugs and Problems
You might want to check the units again I went up to 70,000 ft. Or about 21,000 metres. -

No I didn't have time, although given that ED has clearly implemented the ISA atmosphere I see no reason why it would be incorrect. -
[RESOLVED] AIM-54 inconsistency with CFD whitepaper
JNelson replied to dundun92's topic in Bugs and Problems
Without getting too far off topic, I was curious and measured the atmosphere in DCS using the standard DCS api for EFM's (in this case I just used a modified A-4E mod because it already had the logging functionality). I only plotted the pressure and temperature against the ISA values. Also you will note that the ISA values above 20km are not correct because I didn't have time. From what I can see it seems that DCS model matches the ISA atmosphere. Attached are the raw data that I recorded if anyone wants to do any plotting, contained is time, height,Temp, speed of sound, density, pressure. Edit for full disclosure I added the script I used to calculate the ISA values and plot them. atmosphere.csvatmosphere.py -
[RESOLVED] AIM-54 inconsistency with CFD whitepaper
JNelson replied to dundun92's topic in Bugs and Problems
The guidance was an issue before it's just because of the missiles excessive energy it was not a problem, however now the missile is performing more accurately a 30+ degree turn off the target briefly will dump a large chunk of energy. -

Thanks, the tacviews would be excellent, just to clarify the wobbles you are seeing in the telemetry is the missile actually oscillating, not just noise in the data? We were not seeing any such behaviour on our end. Thanks. -

Drag profiles, the missile much more closely matches the CFD result, however this has revealed a problem with regards to the guidance we are looking into. -
AI A-4 Skyhawk and an idea for better mod support
JNelson replied to upyr1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This is just not true. If you were to make a mod a module you would likely build it from the ground up again, this is because as most mods are, even the A-4 are not good enough fidelity for a module. The advantage of starting from a mod is you already have done it once and can take an appropriate approach and have knowledge of the systems and sources of information. I think ED would agree mods are good for business, not to mention almost every third part started out with a mod, public or not. -

I tested the default comms menu on the f18 free flight and it doesn't work same behaviour as a4 -

Communications menu will not work in the air on most modules if you have realistic comms. You will usually need to build a comm/ptt menu button. The primary radio PTT is by default RALT+\ on most DCS modules include the A-4E mod. -

you are mapping radio ptt? -

That's not the issue, the issue is guidance, I did manage to reverse engineer a solution but it's a little too hacky for normal use so there are no plans at this time. -

Hi, thanks for the feedback both. I was aware that there is a pilot restriction to 360 deg/s in the NATOPs what I was referring to was the A-4M which our SME one time offhandedly mentioned a hydraulic limit, I haven't actually checked this claim since it's not applicable to the E. I will take a look at slat deployment, the pitch stability and sensitivity of the elevator. As for the slats it is possible to lock them like the blue angels however this must be operated on the ground so I doubt you accidently triggered this feature. If either of you fancy helping tune the last bits of the FM closer, discord is a really good platform for discussion, this thread will unfortunately get buried by people asking questions about the NWS and stuff. If you change your minds you can join here: https://discord.gg/XxCGSwZf7h, once you are in the server I can invite you to a testing private discord if you don't wish to stay in the main discord. Thanks, JNelson. -

Hi thanks for the feedback (I am one of the developers of the A-4), I would be interested in hearing more of what you have to say. We did have an ex A-4M pilot vet the flight model but obviously two sources for feel are better than one. The A-4M pilot was telling us you could feel the buffet with very little stick aft at low speeds. Your comments on the trim are completely understandable I reworked the CG and stability system to actually have a dynamic CG position and this messed up the stability a bit specifically the horizontal stabiliser, as such it is a little too sensitive at the moment. As far as the roll is concern was the A-4K hydraulically limited to 360 degrees like the A-4M? If that's the case it may explain the discrepancy in the roll (that and you usual controller issues with any flight sim). Lastly the slats simulation while using a physics model are rather poor when it comes to the A-4 they are a reasonable approximation but ideally I would like to rework them anyway. Thanks for the feedback I would love to speak to you more on this so we can make some improvements. Please join our discord (https://discord.gg/XxCGSwZf7h) and send me JNelson a message. Hello two A-4 pilots in one thread!! I would love to hear your comments on the flight model, we did have an A-4M pilot vet the flight model but there have been a few minor changes that resulted in the pitch stability as you say. Yea the elevator was recently redone to add CG effects and may have effected the authority at higher AoA. -

The moment of intertias are correct in their axes. As for the roll stopping the SME has never complained about it. I mean it is a delta wing and the CL CD curves are straight out of a NASA document. SME seemed happy with it. It will depart under the right conditions, but if you are flying a fwd cg light plane you will have an easier time keeping in control. -

It directly depends on the AOA of the wing and the coefficient of lift of the wing at that aoa. Plus all the usual lift drag variables. -

JNelson replied to plusnine's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Yea so even though your wing is not stalling when you move the aileron it increases/decreases the AOA, causing that to stall, this will increase the drag and reduce the lift on those segments of wing. -

Yea the cheats/easy mode stuff I just never enabled since I never happened to use them myself, please submit and issue on github and I'll get round to it. -
Make sure your game is updated
-
Do you have any other mods installed? Also if you are diving are you sure you aren't just hitting the mach drag?
-
This happens if you don't follow the installation instructions correctly. The wheels will lock up if you are going much over walking speed. This should be improved on RC3 they will lock up around 75% (use controls indicator to see) you can tap the brakes in RC3 to keep them around the same point.
-
We already made them aware, but thanks for your concern.
