  1. I'd love to see Higgins go very far this time. It's been a few years for him since he has won anything major. Or otherwise the Jester Mark Selby. Maybe a final between those two chaps?
  2. That's what I'm thinking too. Also, performance and resolution aren't quite up to scratch apparently. When Oculus Rift 2 comes out (or a viable competitor), I might reconsider. For now, TIR is good (and weird) enough for me, although Youtube videos don't support it, no matter how often I try to turn my damn hat holder.
  3. That's alright. It's related :smilewink:
  4. Will do tomorrow evening, if I can squeeze that in. Got a bit of a busy day ahead. Thanks again!
  5. Yep, especially if it's one of many threads on the subject, by the same person, within a week or so... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=165135 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=165516
  6. Ok cheers, that works now, but not for the Sabre's air brake. That's because it's a customised function for that plane, and even the default assignments they kept in there have no effect whatsoever for the same reason. :noexpression: Oh well, thanks for your help anyway! I'm sure I will use that elsewhere :smilewink:
  7. Are you sure that dispatch_action() is the right function to use? I only found one use of it in other scripts, and that used three parameters. Everything else works fine. Got my button assigned, and it's calling my code correctly, which I have verified with print_message_to_user() on entry and exit of the SetCommand function to be sure it doesn't break in the middle. (Since I haven't got a clue yet as to how to debug things otherwise.) Just can't get it to actually issue any commands via dispatch_action(). (I have tried other standard values for different functions, which I gathered from Export.lua)
  8. You're a rockstar, mate! That'll get me started for sure (contains more than I ever expected). Thanks for that.
  9. Point taken regarding LUA. I considered that part of the game (although I'm aware that it's an independent scripting language). Should have been clearer in my OP. Thing is, I do speak several programming languages fluently (for a living), but I have absolutely no idea about LUA. If you could give me pointers regarding the two scenarios you mentioned, that would probably get me started: I'm pretty sure that once I understand how keys are mapped within LUA, and which files to look at, I could probably work it out from there, so if you have any examples at hand, that would be absolutely awesome (can be any plane really, as I have most of them). Or if you want specific use cases, here are a few I was curious about (regardless of whether it's sensible in a combat/sim context): 1. how can I drop flares and chaffs simultaneously with a single key press on the Mirage? (They are separate keys as of now) 2. For the MiG 21, I'd like to switch IR/SAR and the right pylons at the same time, as well as the radar mode (beam, cone style scan) 3. For the Sabre, I'd like the air brake to be a toggle switch, not two buttons for airbrake out and in EDIT: 4. Advanced case for the MiG 21, a kind of key rotation with one button: Gear down, neutral, Gear up, neutral. Same for flaps. And the list continues as I learn more about the aircraft and which mappings might work best for me :music_whistling: Cheers!
  10. Disregard, please. I re-installed the module and then the activation went through okay. Probably the activation server being a little bit behind/flaky.
  11. Hi guys, Who do I need to contact for license problems? I purchased the Dora a few minutes ago, have my license key, but the installer refuses to accept it. I also put it into the "license check" box on the shop profile page, where it comes back correctly. Not quite sure what to do here. Thanks!
  12. Ok cheers guys. Was hoping there might be a way to do it in DCS, juggling lua and all that. But if there is not, I'll use external tools. Was hoping to avoid that, because different planes will need different profiles. I'll look into JoyToKey. Thanks!
  13. I'll simply add this: +1  Thoroughly enjoying it, although I have so much to learn. (Casual armchair pilot :music_whistling:)
  14. Hi guys Just wondering if it's possible within DCS (without using external tools) to somehow map multiple functions to one button or key. Doesn't matter if they are executed simultaneously or with slight delay. Cheers!
  16. Nope doesn't help :( Strangely it seems to be depending on the aircraft as well. For example with a MiG 21 I have not been able to get a track accurately play back what really happened, even if it's just a 3-minutes airborne-to-landing "mission". The MiG reproducibly crashes into the ground or a building every time, even though it was a somewhat perfect landing on the runway. Sometimes its point of impact is off by a mile from the runway! Don't have that problem with any other plane or chopper on such short tracks. (On longer ones, with AI etc yes, but not on a stand-alone single airplane "mission".) I'm guessing there's some random elements introduced somewhere during flight (weather maybe?), which then of course can't be reproduced during track view as the random outcome will be different. Replay is in for a complete overhaul to make it a re-play and not a re-do! :music_whistling:
  17. Good point. Seems there is some stuff available in the wild about the A129. Found flight manuals, maintenance manuals and some other bits and pieces. How good they are and if anybody could build a DCS model from them, absolutely no idea!
  18. Agusta A129 "Mangusta" maybe? First European attack chopper, so kind of a significant milestone, although not quite as successful as they hoped (AH-64 Apache was more successful) ;-) Or maybe an AH-1 Super Cobra? To be fair, I will probably buy *any* chopper that will become available as a DCS module, no matter which. :-)
  19. If the folder isn't there, it means you haven't actually changed your views. I think what you are referring to is that the default view is zoomed out quite a bit. I don't know where to permanently configure it (somebody else will be able to help), but if all you need is zooming in, you want to open the "adjust controls" bit for the "UH-1 Sim", and then scroll all the way down to the list and assign keys to "Zoom in slow" and "Zoom out slow". That's how I have set it up anyway, as I prefer to zoom with a key rather than physically moving my head forward all the time ;)
  20. My module library is far from complete, because I haven't had time to carry on flying in DCS in the last year and a half (returning now, though! :)) I have: Ka-50, Huey, Mi-8, P51D, A10C, and -purchased a few days ago- the MiG 21. It is really hard to pick a winner! I love all of the modules, except for the A10C, which I couldn't really warm up to. Guess I have to spend more time with it. Ka-50: Attack helicopter which is very different than the Huey or Mi-8. It's packed with systems and weaponry to get the head around. Allows for very different tactics. Huey: The essence of chopping through the air! Nothing else conveys the feeling of flying (or beating air into submission) quite as well as the Huey. Mi-8: Quirky big chopper, with lots of knobs and switches. Love it too, although I can't really say why. Maybe, because it's all these little challenges hidden in it, like operating the radio properly, doppler etc. Feels like discovering something new every time I hop into it. P51D Mustang: Was the first properly modelled WWII era aircraft in DCS. Eventually I might not need to pray any more before touchdown! ;) (Man this thing is hard to land.) MiG-21: Another module I will love for sure. Just getting to grips with it at the moment... Wait, why does it feel so light after the last very tight turn? Oh no, the bombs fell off! :music_whistling: It's just this attention to details (like all modules, to be fair) which is so addictive and challenging. I've only had it for a few days, but it's a lot of fun already. There's no way I can name a favourite. Like Camembert, what I fly on any given day depends on my mood. Good thing is that there's a module for every mood! :D
  21. Hi Chuck, I just wanted to say thank you for the tutorials! Great work!
  22. They could give us EDGE in the meantime, though. Wouldn't hurt. :music_whistling: (sorry, until somebody with inside knowledge clarifies this, I'll just assume that RRG and ED both have their share in development and communication)
  23. I think the most pressing question, which would answer a lot of others in the same go, would be this one: What does the timeline look like, right now, and what will be delivered when? That would implicitly contain a status update and help everybody adjust their expectations. From what we see at the moment, deadlines set in the kickstarter proposal are not met, and dependencies on other parties exist, where nobody has a clue as to whether or when they might be fulfilled (how long has EDGE been discussed, but has anybody seen it in action? -- just to give one example) There were some promises in the kickstarter proposal: Alpha Access to DCS WWII (available Feb 2014) Copy of DCS World: P-51D Mustang (available Oct 2013) SPECIAL: Copy of DCS World: FW.190D-9 (available Feb 2014). Apart from the P-51D keys which some people have received, what about the Alpha Access? And more interestingly: FW 190D in DCS World? When is that going to happen? (I'd be more than happy to pay normal module price for it. Now. :D) So please, what are the next steps and delivery dates? Share those, and you adjust everybody's expectations. Sure, some may complain, but realistically DCS WW II was never going to happen September 2014. That was way too ambitious right from the start, and dependent on too many ifs and whens (3rd parties).
  24. I absolutely can relate to both of this! Next on your list should definitely be the TrackIR. First I thought: "oh come on, for a game? moving your head around with eyes fixated on the same area (screen)... as if that's gonna make any sense!" I stand corrected though. The immersion you get by being able to freely look around the cockpit and outside is amazing.
  25. Heading towards 40, married, and apparently we're planning on having a kid next year. :surrender: Born German, but moved to England a number of years ago. I work as a freelance sysadmin (Unix, BSD, Linux) in the City, but mostly remotely. As far as flight sims go, I'm late to the "game". (Chopper Command on the old Atari 2600? console doesn't count, does it? :D) Previously, flight sims were lacking the immersion factor for me, due to lego-like graphics, terrible frame rates, etc. Well that applied last time I looked at flight sims like 10 years ago or so. Things have changed big time, as I discovered when I incidentally I stumbled upon DCS World last year, and got hooked instantly. I plead guilty to purchasing all its modules, although I usually only fly those with rotors and propellers :D -- Huey, Mustang and lately Mi8; rarely the fly-by-wire Shark  A couple of weeks ago, I also got X-Plane 10, which took quite some time to force it into submission (tons of plugins, scenery, of course helicopter addons, and what have you). But now I like that a lot, too. Looks really good now with all the extra stuff added. Much to the dismay of my wife, I spend more time "flying" than I probably should :music_whistling:
