Thank you Kurfurst, I will correct to 67. No III./JG77 did not have 75 K-4s at the beginning of Oct as they didn't begin arriving at the unit til mid Oct. If they were there at the beginning of Oct they would have been counted at the end of Sept, which they are not. I am sure this is an honest mistake on your part Kurfurst. Yes Neil.

As it is not allowed to make correction to bombastic statements in certain threads........ JGs that used the K-4 Unit - date introduced to unit (1944) - number of K-4s + other 109s at month end - (end of Dec) - Losses III./JG4 - Oct - 15 + 38 - (26 + 2) - 24 I./JG27 - Oct - 57 + 1 - (14 + 1) - 19 II./JG27 - Oct - 2 + 57 - (0 + 21) - 2 III./JG27 - Oct - 55 + 2 - (26 + 0) - 47 IV./JG27 - Oct - 4 + 58 - (0 + 32) - 2 III./JG77 - Oct - 67 - (27) - 26 II./JG2 - Nov - 2 + 56 - (9 + 20) - 7 III./JG3 - Nov - 9 + 58 - (8 + 16) - 8 II./JG26 - Nov - 35 + 36 - (29 + 15) - 41 I./JG4 - Dec - 2 + 26 - 0 II./JG11 - Dec - 11 + 58 - 1 II./JG53 - Dec - 5 + 37 - 0 I./JG77 - Dec - 1 + 37 - 0 IV./JG4 – (7 + 25) S./JG53 – (2 + 4) III./JG1 - Nil 1944 III./JG51 - Nil 1944 II./JG52 - Nil 1944 III./JG52 - Nil 1944 III./JG53 - Nil 1944 II./JG77 - Nil 1944 Now Kurfurst can go on and on about the 854 K-4s built til end of 1944 but the truth is there was only 168 actually with front line units and even less operational serviceable. Also notice that more K-4s had been lost than were 'onhand' at the end of Dec '44.

They are not cheap ($$$) books but one should read: 2nd Tactical Air Force, Vol. 1: Spartan to Normandy, June 1943 to June 1944 2nd Tactical Air Force Vol. 2: Breakout to Bodenplatte July 1944 to January 1945 2nd Tactical Air Force: Volume 3 From the Rhine to Victory 2nd Tactical Air Force: Volume 4: Squadrons, Camouflage Markings, Weapons and Tactics 1943-45

322 went to B.79 1-3-45

451, 453 and 485 are not RCAF squadrons. Til Nov '44 451 was in the MTO. converted to Spitfire XVIs 453 converted to Spitfire XVIs Nov '44.
-
411 Spitfire XVIs in 1945 421 converted to Spitfire XIVs in Dec 1944 402 Spitfire Mk.IXc (July 1944 – August 1944) Spitfire Mk.XIVe (August 1944 – June 1945)

Some more info, 2ndTAF and the Normandy Campaign For some reason will not connect

On Jan 1 1945, the mainstay of the Luftwaffe (fighters) was the Fw190A-8 (257 -30.5%) and Bf109G-14 (255 -30.2%). There was almost twice as many Fw190D-9s (167 -19.8%) as there was Bf109K-4s (92 -10.9%). Fw190A-9s 20 - 2.4%, Bf109G-10s 52 - 6.2% and 2 lonely Bf109G-6s. These numbers are for serviceable a/c. See Appendix 2 in Bodenplatte by Manrho/Putz

By bit of an Allied steam-roller you mean in real life because it is the opposite in the virtual world.
-
Same could be said for the Spitfire IXc coming soon which is a mid '43 version. MH434: August 1943, was air tested, 222 Sqd 13-8-43
-
Some Spitfire trivia. It was Spitfire IXe's of 412 Sqd RCAF that shot up Rommel's car. http://www.tangmere-museum.org.uk/articles/who-shot-rommel

Looks like RAF Waddington (Lincoln).

At the moment DCS is airquake.

A minimum of 60% fuel would be more historical. P-51s did not escort bombers from base to target and back to base. They picked up the bombers well into their flight. P-47s and Spitfires did the the early escorting and picked them up where again on the their return. Basically the P-47s and Spitfires did 2/3rds of the escorting and the P-51s the remaining 1/3rd which was the most dangerous part of the mission.
-
Not every Mustang in the ETO used 67". British Mustangs used 25lb boost.
-
The 9th AF was a tactical air force and that is where almost all of the P-47s ended up in the ETO. [ame]http://www.afhso.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-100924-018.pdf[/ame] There was 9 fighter/bomber groups in the 9th AF in Aug 1944.
-
There was 18 FGs equipped with P-51s in the 8th AF with up to 2268 a/c in total.
-
It is lobbying by those that want to see the Spitfire castrated.
-
In the perfect world the DCS modules fly in, the ailerons would be matched.
-
As manufacturing defects are not modeled, the ailerons will be matched.
-
Why would they, the P-51D,K, delivered to the British have different safety limits?
-
British Mustangs had Packard Merlins. The Royal Air Force received 281 Ds and 594 Ks, designating them Mustang IV and Mustang IVA respectively. The type did not enter RAF service until September 1944, with the earlier Mustang III still remaining in active service. http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/p51_10.html and http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/p51_11.html

KansasCS take a look at this site to answer most of your questions, http://www.spitfireperformance.com/ The P-51B,C,D,K used an American produced (by Packard) Merlin so would be the same. As can be seen the coupling from the crankshaft is mechanical
